Reality Check

If I am building a team and had my choice of any player in Kentucky, I would take Ricardo. Anyone who has seen him play knows how talented he is. He does not have the gawdy numbers but he is very efficient on the court. Ohio got a good recruit in him. I hope he can go back and wow the crowd at Rupp.

Even if they charged for a program I would be willing to pay a few dollars for a book with rosters and team information. Could be a good way to sell ad space as well.

Throwing an elbow out of frustration is not showing any competitive nature and drive to win. It's a cheap play. I am sure the kid is competitor. But lets not make excuses for an inexcusable play. If you want to be a competitor then go out and make a defensive stop. I think Pike will be a very nice player by the time he is a senior but he is going to have to learn to control his emotion. Like John Wooden would say "Emotion is your Enemy"

I think those three have come a long way since that first game. I agree with CovCathRadio, rebounding, free throws, and turnovers are the key. With an emphasis on free throws. I think if it becomes close Faust will make them earn it from the stripe.

Holmes length and athleticism are a big advantage on a bigger court. If a team gets hot shooting though look out. Anything can happen. There have been a lot of great teams have their season ended in the region tournament. If they win it they will have to earn it!

Beechwood had not lost to a DIII team since the 2006/2007 season. I would say that was an upset. I agree with St. Henry, two very nice wins.

But really neither does Holmes in this game, both teams will be playing in the region tournament. Now when you are talking about a region game you are correct. All of the pressure is on Holmes in the region. But this game is basically for pride (and seeding of course)

And even after Shields left you had a whole line of "Shields Guys" This year could have been huge for Highlands because success brings excitement for the program and thus brings more kids out to play. I think they had the talent to really make a splash this year. They must be dissapointed.

I think the attendance will be high but will look really empty. Remember this is a 9,000+ seat arena. If you can pull 1,500 people it would be a great crowd for a high school game but look completely empty in the gym. I think more "casual" fans will go to the games because they are at NKU and they don't have to worry about cramped gyms with no parking. Plus, playing in an arena gets the teams ready for the bigger court and shooting lines that they will see at Rupp. Rupp will just be a little louder.

No I agree, its really a double edged sword. They can hit the three on you if you pack it in, but if you spread it out they can attack the basket. Plus with all of their length they are a matchup nightmare. I was only trying to make the point that they can hit the three. :notworthy:

If you shoot 100 shots at practice but do not shoot them correctly are you getting any better? I think the focus needs to start early on teaching kids the proper mechanics and fundamentals. I think this begins while they are young. Not to get off topic but I think coaches of young kids (elementary and middle school) should focus on fundamentals and mechanics. If kids learn when they are young they can really improve while in High school. But what I see is far too often there is no focus on improving the players while they are young. Okay, I am off my soapbox now!

Careful what you wish for! If Ricardo or Jeremiah start firing away from outside CovCath could be in trouble. Ricardo has a very smooth shot and if he gets hot look out. Just ask Beechwood. Holmes put a ton of pressure on Beechwood's guards last night and I expect the same to be done against CovCath. CovCath guards will need to the get the ball inside to Thelan and Wellbrock, Holmes pressure may keep them from doing that.

35th District finals. What do you think? CovCath played Holmes tough the first time they met. The finals on CovCath's home floor. Do the Colonels have a shot at winning another District title? Anyone know what time they tip?

CovCath should take care of the Indians early. If they don't it could get interesting. Holy Cross runs a lot of different looks on defense and it all depends on how the Colonels will respond. I think with the home court advantage and decided advantage in the post, CovCath will move on to meet the Bulldogs.

Holmes can name the score. Beechwood will go down hard but I think the defending state champions will be a little too much for the Tigers. Holmes had a "statement" game last year against the Tigers in the District finals, I expect to see a difference Bulldogs team now that we are in tournament play.

I tip my hat to the Beechwood Tigers, they graduated four starters from last year's team that won a Division III title and came back to win another one in dominating fashion this year. Beechwood went out and earned it on the court.

Beechwood pretty much rolled in this one from the tip on, big night from Freshman Chase Maus and Junior Tyler Fangman. The Tigers lock up their third straight NKAC Division III Conference Championship. Since Shumate took over the program Beechwood is 41-1 in conference play. Congrats to the Tigers on another DIII Championship.

I think Boone will roll in this one. Dixie has been so up and down this year its really a tough call. But Boone just has more talent, and I will go with the talent.

Big game tonight, Dayton on Senior Night to face the Beechwood Tigers, who have owned the Conference the past two years. Both teams have one conference loss. Dayton still has a game against Calvary after Beechwood. If the Tigers win tonight they lock of the Division title for the third straight year. If Dayton wins they have a shot at their first title in a long time. Should be a great DIII matchup tonight. I think with Dayton already owning one win against the Tiger and on their home floor on senior night they would have a slight edge.
