I'll up you one and say 5 and 5. :thumb: Their JV and freshmen had some success and that may add to the table for them to be slightly better than what people who don't follow underclassman talent think. I'll have to find you at some of the games this year.

Does no one have faith in Copper breaking into the top 10. I'll be the first to say they will. They had a few district games that were pretty close in the scores and I'm sure they will continue to get better.

It's going to be hard for any public, zone restricted school to win a state championship when they have to compete against the likes of schools that are able to bring in outside talent. If Boone could have put about 3 or 4 Shaun Alexander type athletes on that team, a state championship quest would have possibly had a different outcome. I think the Boone football program is suffering because the kids just won't push themselves to get better and for the past couple of years there has been no one stepping up to push them to work hard in the off season. Over the years the staff has been riding the talent of individuals like Bogle, Farris, Doucette, Quainoo, Eagler, the Brown brothers and some others that were just natural athletes who put in extra work to get better. This year they are hitting the weight room more often and harder than they have in the past and hopefully the strength program will help fill the void of superior talent and questionable style of play. They don't need to be superstars to be in the to 10, they just need to get stronger, smarter and play together.

Thanks for keeping me up to date. Always glad to see local kids going to the next level.

Add to that, as long as Towles has protection also. I like his mobility as well, when he is flushed out of the pocket he can really get going with his deceptive speed/stride. Highland has always impressed me with their receiver's ability to get seperation and until there's a set of db's that can control them, they wil continue to be top of NKY.

According to WKU Insider, they have medium interest in Hemple and an offer has not been made.

I'm with ya now. I agree, if has the slightest bit of an OLine, his junior and senior years should be tremendous. The kid is a great athlete and a great and respectful young man as well.

Beal had a great year in the Boone County youth system, but I think it's a little early to promote him to the status of one of the top varsity running backs in NKY for 2011. Although, he will be above average for freshman, he's just not quite the varsity stud until he gets a good year + in the weight room. JMO.

Statistically there's not a very large number of kids that transfer up from small colleges to the DI level, Usually it's the very talented athletes that just didn't have the academics in line. The concept of DI is to get you while you're young so you can learn the system while gaining strength and size to be a major contributor the last couple of years. IMO this decision should be based on the kids potential and what they expect to get out of the game.

I heard Friar's Club split up as well and some are playing on Shining Stars teams.

After watching their inconsistancy, I would say many were not suprised or disappointed that they did not make it to Rupp. I thought this thread was about assistant coaching and I don't believe Coach downs had a hand in this Senior groups AAU growth in the past. The upcoming class is the what he has worked with since I have know him and probably since they have been able to shoot a basketball, and if you look at their past success AAU, freshman and JV to this date, this group has done nothing but win. It's hard to believe they accomplished this all on their own. Yea a few changes in the coaches decisions may have made a difference here or there in game outcomes, but in the end it's the kids that have to put the ball in hole and prevent the other team from doing the same thing and Boone just didn't get it done consistantly as a team. I agree with you that AAU coaching is different when you have recruited talent, but Down's group is pretty much home grown. So I'm going to stick with what is probably a fact; that he is one of the better if not the best assistant coaches in the area.

Instead of spreading a rumor, why not speak the source to prove it's true. Your past post show a lot of disgruntled attitude towards the Boone County program because of transfers, so could it be possible that you are the root of this rumor? Whether it is or not, this site should be used for decent comments rather than conjured up rumors.

Watched a few minutes of the Raiders spring session and yes they were in full pads and mixing it up pretty good. Noticeably missing is the size that Nichols displayed on that front line, but they still look good. Is Hemple participating in spring ball or is he strictly baseball?

So you're saying Boone playing in the Regional Championship game and loosing to the Stae Champion Team Holmes by less than 5 was not winning where it counts? Downs is a well respected and great basketball coach that has the ability to get the most out of his players. Like him or not as a person, but to say you question his coaching ability is a joke. Travel to any AAU Ky state tournament and I believe he will be well known for the winning teams he has brought to many tournaments in the past, and that's with a combination of talent and good coaching. The success of Coach Downs AAU program sells him enough to anyone that knows basketball.

Is that real sarcasm, or did you just not understand the metaphor :idunno: If that walk on chooses not to stick it out in DI, it's a lot easier to transfer down a division or two than to transfer up before you get too heavily into your career core classes.

That's like saying in a job I can't be the CEO, so I 'll settle for being the janitor. (No relation to the the schools themselves). You'll get the education no matter what school you're at, and the challenges of working hard and earning the right to compete at the DI level over a top prospect can be a learning experience that promotes growth also.

Maybe that's why we're underachieving as a nation. We'd rather our kids not challenge themselves and shoot for the stars, but encourage them to dig for the rocks. Show me a program that constantly chooses NON PRODUCTIVE recruits for playing time over the HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE walk on, and I believe you have an unsuccessful program. Thing is, if you're a walk on, you've got to work twice as hard and twice as long. Question is..........Is it worth it to you reguardless of the results. I hope Colosimo can prove that it's worth it as he walks on at Duke.

I agree! Nothing like taking a young mind and bouncing it around every two years with a different coaching staff, different teammates, and running a different offense every two years. The Boone County youth system needs to get with the program and align their program with the schools. I think the results would be a lot better than what they have seen in the past couple of years throughout the county.

Didn't know he was a Senior, so that was a good selection. Giesler will deifinitely get his share of accolades next year.

Completely ridicolous statement! Moss has nothing to do with making Nell's coaching success more than what it is today or has been in the past. All the talk of transfers and kids playing out of school boundaries could be thrown at probably every high school in the ninth. It's the haters that continue to bash Nell because the kids and their parents believe Boone is a better fit for their high school success educationally or athletically. Accept the fact that she is one of the best coaches around and move on. Even when you have one great player, it takes four more to get the ball up the court, defend, pass and do all the other tangibles that must be tought by the coach. It's not like getting one great player and allowing everyone else to play dumb, so we should get rid of the dumb statements that suggest so. :sssh:

I agree! Giesler should have been selected for his performance against Boone. Being the lone big man for NCC he held Brown scoreless and limited Lay also. Jake was also very productive with the ball on the offensive side when they would feed it to him. Not taking anything away from the kid they did select, but Giesler's performance was top notch on both ends of the court!
