Sorry about that, I didn't mean to group you in with "everyone". I just remember reading so many posters saying how there was no one to replace Mcfarland, and with the additional departure of Andrew Brown and Corey Spaulding it was said that Boone would be struggling greatly. They seemed to recover pretty well to me. I agree with you about this years senior class being hyped up to be so great. Maybe under a different system such as their AAU system they are, but with the school ball they did not perform consistantly to the expectations of those who thought they were so accomplished. Looking at next year, yes it will be hard to replace Gabbards style of play, but not hard to replace the position. Downs is a great ball handler and can see the floor pretty well. Stanley is a good penetrator and carries a nice outside threat with that. Zane will be Zane and knock down numerous jump shots and hopefully becomes more dangerous with a short range inside game, add in the bench height and hustle from Keenan, Crabtree, Burgess and Fookes and the Rebels can go pretty deep again next year. Montgomery will be forced to be more of a leader next year and not live in the shadow of seniors and hopefully that will increase his confidence on taking the ball to the basket. I know many teams are praying that Brown doesn't learn how to elevate over the off season or gain any height. Remember this kid averaged playing time that was less than a half a game and was right at the top in statistical performance with the starters. Imagine what he may have been able to do with two complete halves. The funny thing about this group is IMO they are the type that won't be looking to fill anyone's shoes, they'll just be happy to be wearing their own. All teams across the board with the exception of Conner and Cooper will be replacing productive graduating seniors, so next year will definitely be another very interesting year with a chance for anyone to come out of the ninth.

It's not necessarily bashing the inner city school system as much as it is bashing the individuals response. That's hogwash about pressure from the community, region and state for Holmes to perform at a certain level. It's highly possible that the kids put that pressure on themselves and there's no one there to remind them that life goes on if you loose a basketball game. This is a high schhol program, not an NBA franchise. Pressure to repeat as State Champions should be secondary to the kids and the faculty far behind the pressure of making sure you're selecting young men that will repersent your program with some respect. The antics of one or two of the players does not represent the entire program, but it should not take multiple infractions for the program realize when a certain couple of kids need to concentrate on life skills instead of basketball skills. I will say that Rico and Avery are two of the most mature and well respected, and well behaved young men from that senior class and hope the underclassmen were able to soak in some of that personality and behavior, because the years to come may not be as fruitful as the past and they will have to handle themselves in a mature manner. Thanks to all the seniors of the ninth region for giving us some wonderful basketball memories.......Good and Bad. Good luck with your future goals.

Next years Boone group will bring two classes together more so than this year. Everyone thought Boone lost the world last year with that graduating class and they seemed to do pretty well anyway. Downs is a great ball handler and will get even better as the year approaches. The Rebels will have a strong junior/senior group with size and quickness. It's going to be very hard for Holmes to replace the BIG 3, probably the most productive 3 players combined in the state.

Thanks ! You do a great job of getting us the facts on the stats and that really tells the story of the game. I believe I said earlier that the team that shot the higher percentage would be the winning team and by golly I was right :lol: It was a great game (minus the officiating), and the Rebel supporters are very proud of their kids, all of them for giving such a great effort. The returning players are already itching for a rematch next year. Look forward to next season as well as chatting with Walter more in person.

I am not clear of the comment that was made, but from what I see and hear from reliable sources, Holmes should be concentrating on making him one of the best students in the commonwealth instead of one the best ballers. The kid has all the talent in the world, but without the proper guidance, attitude and education the road ends quickly, and as a young student/athlete, he deserves better.

I don't think there is a need to justify why some of us believe that Boone can beat Holmes. If you look at the past 3 games over the two years as someone mentioned before, you could say the game could go either way. Taking a team like Boone to OT on your home court also doesn't give you the room to automatically assume a win. The game will go as the shots go, the team shooting the higher percentage will more than likely win, and after Holmes shot so well on Thursday night, it just may be Boone's turn come Saturday night. :thumb:

You are correct! Boone had several students behind their bench as well as parents and family members there to support them. Someone needs new glasses or needs to be introduced to the fans that belong to the specific teams.

I heard NCC was 1 for 19 from the 3 pt line, yikes! Geilser was a beast attacking the basket and grabbing rebounds. In the second half NCC out hustled Boone, they were very scrappy. Love watching Pangallo play, he is a mighty mouse/speedy gonzalez on the court, and amazing passes. Wish him well, hope he continues to play somewhere. When Pangallo was guarding Montgomery, they should have had him post up and fed him down low. I think Pangallo is about 5' 8" and Montgomery is about 6' 5". Great win for Boone, hope they can pick it up for Saturday.

This was announced on the channel 9 news last night, but they made it sound like he was a scholarship commitment. Nothing was said about preferred walk-on, but that must be the case because Colosimo is not listed on the Duke University prospect watch list. His father did his residency at Duke and this may be a good way for him to follow in his foot steps and become just as successful. Good luck to the young man.

That's a very good point you're bringing up. Rice may not be the best 6th man, but it does appear he is becoming a better man.......which is most important. :thumb:

Those stats alone for Brown and Montgomery makes you wonder why they weren't considered for 6th 7th or even 8th man last year with Boone.

I agree, Trevan would probably be a starter on any other 9th region team around here. As a sixth man, he does provide Boone with some great energy and trouble for defenders. I believe he is just behind Gabbard as the teams second leading scorer and his rebound stats are up there also. The key as you mentioned is that he doesn't take attitude for lack of playing time or not starting, he just goes in and gets the job done at a very succesful rate for a sixth man. The kid gets my vote...hands down!

Very few freshmen start in their first year at DI schools anyway, so if you have the chance to get on the squad and put in a determined effort, your chances are just as good as the scholarship freshman to earn time on the field. It all depends on what your dreams and goals consist of.

That's the sad part. I hope they're able to remain somewhat in a respectable relationship with their teammates because in the end they are the ones that are part of their everyday life in school and out of school, not the coach.

IMO I don't think their absence is missed as much on the offensive side as it is on the defensive side. The two have nothing to do with the production of or lack thereof from key players in the past two games. Right now, there's no varsity level experienced relief for Gabbard at the point, and Gabbard now has to lay off slightly defensively to protect himself from foul trouble. Kids need to learn the concept of "Role Player", not everyone is going to be made happy (trust me on that one), but you have to accept your role and perform when called upon. Now the Rebels will have to rely on some jv kids to be those role players and if they can spare a couple of minutes here and there and not suffer tremendously then Boone still has a chance at anyone, and I would love see them avenge the missed layup that could have sent them to Rupp last year.

I still have my tongue, just didn't want to comment on the two players that left the team issue. On the other hand, I think Boone is well capable of beating NCC if the starting 6 show up to play. If you look at their last two games against ryle and even Cooper, there was a lack of offensive contribution in the scoring department from some key players. They have to find a way to get to the basket and make their shots. If they are on, then Boone can't be stopped because they outmatch NCC with 5+ talent. Defense will play a big part in the result of this game also. IMO this will be an exciting game because of the open floor and the question is who dies down first?

You may be selling Cov Cath short by saying Holmes will be able to sit their BIG 3 all at once at any point in this game. On their home court, I'm thinking the Colonels can at least put up a decent fight and make the Bulldogs sweat a little more than some think.

I agree, as ref I would probably be more inclined to satisfy Fookes to keep her quiet. The lady can get loud, but any athlete has to love her as a coach because she give's you no room to slack off if you're going to play for her. I myself am trying to learn the art of ignoring suspicious calls by some refs, because like you said my opinion doesn't really matter. But, it does feel good to express it every once in a while :thumb:

So are you saying the refs came into the game to specifically watch Crittendon closely and call the fouls only on her, and give Moss some freedom to foul away with no calls?
