From what I understand, you are supposed to live in the Ryle district to be a part of the program, and if it is a true system to try and develope the Ryle district kids, then they should accept all and not just the top players from the area. If this move takes place, the other high schools has better get on board quickly, or they won't have a chance to compete with Ryle in the future. I know of several coaches within the the pee wee league that support this idea, and those are the coaches that do this for the pleasure of teaching fundamentals of the game.

I have been reading your recent post, and the comedy you provide is amazing! To say Henry Clay is as good as X is just like all of your other comments. Henry Clay has a great football program with a tradition of winning, but for anyone that truly knows high school football, would probably know that X is in a seperate class from most of the high schools around here. I spoke with an X dad at the UK junior day and he said they will be even stronger this year than last year, and if that is anywhere near true, they will repeat.

The word in Union is that Ryle supporters have put into work to start their youth football program the coming 2010 season. This will pull some talented kids away from the Boone County Pee Wee football league and guide them towards their future high schools game sets. My question is; how many kids will be a part of this, and who are some of the top talented youths in that area? I know of maybe 5, but it takes more than 5 to field a team. Any thoughts or answers?

What's his record as a head coach? Considering his last two years with a new program in a tough 6A division, his win/loss record is not a true evaluation of how good of a coach he is. From looking at the progress his teams are making at Cooper with the amount of talent given, Sullivan could do just fine at any of the NKY high school programs.

It is very easy to sit back at your computer and type comments about how the Holmes community failed this kid. Why don't you put your time, money and mentoring skills to work? Unnecessary comment! If you knew anything about me, you would be more educated on how much I actually work with and for kids. Wow! did I hit home or something? What I do with my time is up to me, and who I choose to mentor is up to me. I have a job and I don't need any information from Holmes, but thank you for offering. Holmes I believe has paid individuals in the schools system, so they don't need volunteers, but if they do, and if you are not already doing so, maybe you should help them out instead being so sour about my opinions. This is an open forum and no one individual was personally attacked by comments; just a system. So IMO that excellent mentoring program at Holmes that you mentioned POSSIBLY could have done a better job with Elijah throughout the years. Is that a better way to put it for you? :thumb:

The topic is the Top 10, that doesn't mean we have to devote the entire thread to the top one or two teams. It's also an open discussion about teams that may have the ability to drop in or out of that #10 spot. We apologize if we are not giving enough attention to the teams that are pretty obvious to be the number 1 and 2. So, mod please allow us to voice our opinion and reasons why on who we think may be in the top 1 thru 10. Sorry bird bath the bottom feeders didn't mean to try and infiltrate into your elite status.

Great post! That's why you play the game. Cooper lost a couple of games pretty close last year, that could have gone the other way, so 5+ is attainable.

Whether or not it was a thumping is a matter of opinion. I watched the SK game on TV, and to me, it was a thumping and no excuses about the weather, it was the same weather for both of the teams. You admitted the both games with Highlands were put of reach, so IMO they pretty much controlled/thumped the opponent. My statemnt about Ryle vs X was in response to the suggestion that they were playing a much harder schedule than Boone. So the benefit of their schedule is what it is to either team. "Similar situation back in 05 and 06. Ryle gets blasted by Glen Este in opening game in 05 but played them very well in 06. Glen Este was actually 3rd best team in the city that year, which was equivalent to top 5 in state. 2010 is Ryle's 06." Nice point, but who really cares, it has nothing to do with what I posted. Opening games usually don't determine a season. Boone beat Lafayette (a pretty decent team) last year in their opener and look how their season turned out. I see that Ryle is working to build a stronger program, but it's no superior to any other high school in BC. They have a good set of athletes that should give them two successful seasons and then what? :deadhorse: Besides, they're the only BC public school with turf; they can practice year round regardless of weather, so they should be better.........RIGHT!

I agree with you here, but it takes that third F to control the first two. As a father, mentor and coach I will point out a kids failures and praise his successes in hopes to show that we all fail at one point in life, but with a little help from another, and a lot help from within yourself, success is achievable. Hopefully Elijah will get that at the next level.

No, I'm not kidding! As a guidance counselor, you should be comminicating with the coaches and notifying them if a student\athlete is having academic or attendance problems. That's the point I'm trying to make. Not all kids have the home support, but yet they still want to try and succeed in life with whatever help they can receive, and as a GUIDANCE counselor, if you cant successfully provide that, then you are not doing your job. Elijah's case could be a high profile case showing that there's not enough valued support in the public school system, but that;s another story in politics. I respect educational staff just as much as I respect our military, so this is not a knock on them, but just a question of the program direction/concentration at Holmes. I do agree with this: "The people that have been riding his coat tail coaching him and supposedly mentoring him should have been helping and giving guidance". But, even some of them are blind to the fact that all they want is for this kids athletically ability to give them a win.

I so have to disagree with this statement, because as a NFL MVP, I assure you Sean was surrounded by several MVP type linemen, receivers, QB and defensive teamates; unlike his high school career. Plus his talent growth from high school through college and several years int the NFL took tremendous strides also. So, without saying it's a fact, I would bet a lot of NFL MVP winners never played on a state championship team regardless of what state they came from.

Excellent perception! Towles is a good quaterback and a great kid. Next years season will show how much talent he truly has when takes the helm as the true starter. Great kid and I wish the best for his eason.

They're not just using up the kids for two years and letting them go, they're actually moving them up to the next level. I hope he's excited enough about his opportunities to work really hard in the classroom for a few years and he could possibly have one of the best success stories from the area.

definitely a matter of opinion here. Boone came into that game 3 and 6, so probably not an upset Dixie came into that game 3 and 5, and Ryle was 4 and 4 so again probably not a big upset PRP was 3 and 7, so I think even Boone could have beat them........not an upset possibly more so the Henderson County win given they had only lost 2 games but with a fairly easy schedule prior to Ryle beating them. I don' really know that division, so I can't truly say.

I question that because of statements from classmates and it is possible to have a low test score, but also be accepted because you have a high GPA. That's for those who are poor test takers, but perform well in class. With his athletic ability he should have been giuded to study and prepare to take that test as many times as he was allowed.

Every program probably has their sites on the state championship. What matters is how they approach it. As I said earlier, this years Boone team is doing some things different than the past as far as the offseason. Since the 04-05 season, up until last year Boone has pretty much been on the upside of Ryle, so the table could turn eventually. Help me out with Ryle History. Who was the last team Ryle beat that they shouldn't have.

you are right, I always get Trinity and St X. mixed up They both have soo much talent, they seem to be the same to me. Either way we both too a thumping from them. That's how bad it was,I forgot who we were playing :lol:

The issue is that he's been eligible to be on a high school team for how many consecutive years without any known grade suspensions, but all of sudden, he can't qualify for any NCAA levels? Apparently someone had him on the wrong track; hence my question about guidance counseling. I think with the right guidance, leadership and some maturing, we could possibly see him in a succesfull DI program, but they have let it slip so far behind, it's going to be harder on him mentally to get up to that level. He's got work to do on and off the court and I wish the best for him.

Sophomores and especially juniors definitely have the ability to make a difference in a couple of positions, the class level itself doesn't make the athlete. I think Ryle's Oline was laced with juniors last year and look how far it took them, starting QB was a junior, key RB a sophomore. So throw grade level out the window and look at what shows up to play. I personally think they have chances against Boone, Campbell County and Conner next year. Don't forget, they have one of the best backs in NKY whether people agree or not. They definitely have some good things going and it may be sooner than later.

Wrong! I don't love Boone...I love athletic competition regardless of the team! You could account the slipping to the fact that Boone was once primarily the main high school around. Now with the number of schools available the talent has been dispersed. Are you not aware of the fact that Boone played Anderson of Ohio, Highlands and Trinity last year, two of them back to back? Those are probably three of the better teams in the Tri- State area, so they 're not taking it easy on the schedule. The payoff from that was just three big butt whoopins! Ryles toughest opponents last year Highlands, SK and Trinity also put a thumping on them, so I don't really see the balancing logic in how that makes either team better. Teams will be as good as they prepare for ther talent level their facing. I agree with you about SK, missing the talent of Simspon, Hansel and other Olinemen will take a toll on SK. Still should be an interesting year.

It's good to hear that he's going to continue playing and even better that he is continuing to get educated at an upper level. It just drives me nuts to see that he was allowed to remain a sub par academic student with above average athleticism. All the people surrounding that program that brag about his high scoring games and superfly dunks should have been in his head forcing him to be a better student. Maintaining a "C" average/2.0 GPA is not hard if you just attend class and apply yourself. I know some of you will take offense to my post, but it needs to be driven home that we not only support the kids athletically, but also academically. Please tell me..........what is the job description of the Guidance Counselors in schools today?

For any of you young athletes that read the post's here, it's not fine to take your first ACT exam in the Spring of your senior year. Most colleges aren't heavily considering you until they know you can score high enough to be cleared. While you're sitting on the ball, another athlete who may be just as talented or sometimes less talented will take your scholarship while you procrastinate, because they already have the score to prove their merit, so don't ever assume you are the only one receiving that schools offer. You know the saying "stay ahead of the game" take your ACT early and it gives you a chance to improve the score if it's not at as high as you or the schools would like. Not trying to be a sour grape on your post, but we don't want to give athletes the wrong message. The message should be for them to prep their education early, like in the junior year and enjoy the senior year knowing they have the hard part behind them.
