My thought is you should always go into a game knowing you can knock someone off or maybe you shouldn't be on the court. Until Ryle gets the "W", we have to say Boone is the better team. No crying about key players sitting for foul trouble, and refs making bad calls. Bring in your subs, play through the refs and do your best, if you win congrats to you and if you don't have respect for the winning team and congratulate them. Did Crittendon really sit for half a game, or one quater, I keep hearing different stories.

Hatton is only an an 8th grade kid who deserves to play any sport he desires at this age. I would hate for a kid to miss out on their high school days of attending school and having fun playing multiple sports just because everyone else thinks they might be the next Michael Jordan. As they begin to enter the Junior/Senior year, I see it then as a time to narrow down if you're receiving attention from major colleges. I always say the injury issue is in God's hands for any sport, which is also why grades should be the most important part of high school for these kids. My advice is to do what you like until you get an offer such as Tate Nichols and Tyler Grubbs who were both multiple sport players until receiving gracious college offers.JMO

That size and long arms, sounds like an excellent defensive end type of athlete.

The thing is the ref called the walk on both teams pretty much the entire game, so it wasn't a deciding factor of the game. Regardless of region the two refs that called this game were not the best, but they weren't one sided at all. Case in point is the technical foul that was called on the kid from Boone who received the head butt from the SK kid. If anything, they could have called double technical, but again the responder got hit with the "T". Good job Rebels on taking the JV tournament for the third year in a row.

Boone County, 3 peat for them I heard.

I do remember True from the Spartan days, and the kid was a load then.

Gabbard did what was needed to help his team win, and yes to say he was "owned" is a bit much. It was not only Gabbard that was scored on last night, Boone played some pretty bad defense ALL night in all 5 positions. We do have to give Hatton credit though, because he was big for Dixie on the offensive end. Even though he is an older than usual 8th grader, he handles himself and the game more maturely as the years go by. He will definitely be one of the dominant guards in the years to come ahead of him. Question is, will he stay at Dixie?

I guess I should clear it up with does anyone have the size, strength and footwork of Grubbs, the spped of Collinsworth and any graduating receivers? This wasn't a negative question.

IMO If you don't show it, then you don't have it. Dominance is rarely used in High School sports, especially basketball because these are kids. There's a difference between good teams and dominant teams.

Who does Boone have out tonight? Is it an injury/illness. I know Cotton was a little banged up after his fall from the posterizing and1 dunk over the Holmes player, but other than that all starters were healthy as of yesterday. I would hope that Mcreary will let Cotton rest (if inured at all) for districts if not needed in this game, and Boone is well deep enough with role players to do that if they come too play. Dixie without Trammel is a bigger dropoff than Boone without Cotton. My pick is for the oone seniors to end their home season in a big way tonight.

I think that Boone would have preferred for Popp to go to the line as well, he is a much higher % free throw shooter. For anyone who knows Brown, they know that although he has a big bruiser body, he is as quiet and shut and play as you can get. Don't agree with the elbow, it was frustration at it's peak and, IMO, that is the ref's fault, they should have gotten a handle on the game with the physical post play earlier than that so that it wouldn't get there. Both great teams, hope to see them play again, neutral court, new refs.

I think that's the only level that Highlands knows how to play and that's what makes their program so great. Dedication from the coaches and from talented players is a good combination to have. I wanted to know who's next in line to shine over there.

I believe Patrick Towles will be the QB next year, but who are the replacements for Highlands at the top two O-linemen spots along with Bardo, Collinsworth and any other impact starting seniors that graduate in 2010? I,m sure they will reload with an impact, but at what level.

I agree with you, I think a lot of us see the same picture you're seeing, it's just a few that continue to believe that Holmes is unbeatable. Give them credit because they have been winning up to this point. Let's see what happens when it's one and done and the the bragging/realization can set everyone straight. I too would take Montgomery/Earls/Brown/Cotton/Gabbard/Lay in a regional rematch. Brown played limited minutes last night, as did Montgomery and Cotton in the secon half (foul trouble-part of the game), but a free throw/turn over here or there and the game could have been decided differently. But I guess when you are facing a "much better and more talented team" you can only wish for luck and prayers of winning:rolleyes:

It was never said that the elbow was not intentional, if you watched that entire scenario it did get to the point where the defenders were over aggresive trying to move Brown off the block and prevent the inlet pass. The baseline ref was watching the entire series and failed to step in and warn either player, so apparently it was just physical play. Plus it's overkill to call it a haymaker! If Brown with his strength and size throws a haymaker, then JJ probably leaves the game for the rest of the night. Also please explain again how Brown was lowering his shoulder in to JJ's mid section while trying to post up :confused: That seems kind of impossible, so I will not mention something that did not happen. What? Was Brown doing a backbend post move? If your posting up, your back is to the defender (at least that's how I usually see it). As I said before, intentional or not JJ was instigating the issue with his tactics and Brown responded back. If it was deserving of an ejection, I'm sure one of the three refs would have made the call, yes because everyone saw it. Call was not made; move on and don't make this such a big issue of the game itself.

If you fail to mention the dirty shoving and pushing and elbow shots to the back that JJ was doing underneath then you shouldn't mention this play at all. The refs probably saw this and that's why they allowed this to reach the level of the elbow shot. JJ at his size got well what any big man deserves when they try to play that style with Brown, intentional or not it's a wake up call for them to realize they can't just shove him around because he's a bigger player. Your opinion that Brown should have been ejected is just that, an opinion. If your going to bang with the Big Boys you better be ready to get banged back. I think Holmes was more frustrated because Brown came off the bench and had a moment where they had no answer for him defensively. Now back to the game! Boone played fairly well, but missed key opportunities to pull ahead of Holmes. Holmes attacked the basket and pretty much owned the boards for a lot of offensive put backs. Cotton and Montgomery played limited minutes in the fourth due to foul trouble which did not help on the offensive end and in rebounds. I think Holmes was able to keep their top 3 dogs on the floor for a majority of the night which is very big for them because the depth is not strong off the bench. Regionals will be interesting.

I agree with you here, especially the fact that some need the structure of college athletics to have the discipline to deal with the academics and stay out of the "beer drinking to excess" lifestyle. Kumbaya:lol:

Thanks, I know what you're saying by "don't play just because you have the opportunity to play", quite a few kids have the opportunity, but not many have the love, and I can tell you loved those days at Highlands and enjoyed the success:thumb:.

Football life after high school isn't for everyone. Whether it be DI or JUCO if you don't love the game and have the discipline to maintain then leave that spot for those who do. Anytime you get to play a sport at the next level it's worth it. I have several stories from my college days that I won't go into details about, but I wouldn't trade a minute of that time and sweat for any other option. My only regret is that I didn't truly maximize my options while in a small school enviroment. Any level of college sport is similar to a job, you have responsibilities, and commitments to uphold and for some people, that's just too much. I have read the posts of people bragging about their high school and college accomplishments and still question whether it was worth it or not. If you can re-live those moments so vividly, and still question it's worth, the answer is more simple than you think. The game of football is not about whether you're on a bus to the game or on a plane, it's not about 500 fans compared to 5000 fans and it's not about pre madonna exposure of DI football either. The game is about the competiton, 11 on 11 on the grass, turf or whatever surface. If you like lining up and smacking someone in the mouth, knocking their jock in the dirt, and plowing them over with punishing runs then you take every opportunity offered to continue to play this wonderful game, it doesn't matter if it's DI,II,III.NAIA,or JUCO! PLAY THE GAME! Because before you know it, you'll be just another couch potato quaterback wishing you still had your youth.

Saw in the box scores that Cooper's Bradley scored 20 and the twins from Deming combined for about 25. Typically I've been seeing them both in the higher teens or 20's. Anyone have details on the game?

Oh cry me a river! You don't see football officials responding to screams from the crowd so why should the basket officials? They're paid to do a job and if they don't like the pay; then get another job! Good or bad officiating, they should never allow the fans to interpret how they call the game. If I pay to see a game (and officials are part of the game) and I don't like a call, I'll be more than happy to say so. A good official is one that has a thick skin and controls the game itself, not the fans. So learn to take the harsh and obnoxious criticism and continue calling your game whether you're good at it or not.JMO

Brown and Montgomery had very little varsity experience coming into this year as well, and seem to be filling in pretty good. Mcreary, Downs, Stanley, Crabtree, and Burgess will be in the same position next year and should be able to get into the flow of varsity ball pretty quickly having practiced against the talent of their current varsity teamates. The jv scores and records are created by the talent on the court, so it has to have some weight as they move on to varsity. As for Conner, they will be similar to Highlands of this year. Loaded with senior talent and not much needed from their underclassmen.
