Ryle High School providing support for starting up their own youth football program?

Featured Replies

The word in Union is that Ryle supporters have put into work to start their youth football program the coming 2010 season. This will pull some talented kids away from the Boone County Pee Wee football league and guide them towards their future high schools game sets.

My question is; how many kids will be a part of this, and who are some of the top talented youths in that area? I know of maybe 5, but it takes more than 5 to field a team.

Any thoughts or answers?

Great news if this is true. I believe that all schools should have Pee Wee and junior high feeder programs if they want to develop a long-term winning program and tradition. The Boone Pee Wee League was AND STILL IS not about player development and letting everyone have a chance to play but about which coach could win the big important Super Bowl. Big whoopee!!

Interesting comment considering if they form this team it will essentially be an AAU team.

I think it is a smart move. The current league has too many players and not enough resources.

Ryle is seeing the wisdom, you schedule HHS twice and develop your own junior football league. I am sure my phone is going to ring off the hook from family members in Union requesting us to move back in the area. Very good move IMO.

Not at all... it would be intended to be a feeder program into Ryle, just like most programs in NKY. The idea of drafting from a specific area has been introduced to the BC Pee Wee coaches and only a few were on board. The idea is, that Union kids would be play for one team that feeds Ryle, Hebron kids would play for a team that feeds Conner, etc. It is all about kids playing on the same team to become friends and learn to play together at a young age, not waiting until they are Freshman to get to know each other on the football field. It takes more time than you would think for the kids to gel when they have played against each other for a number of years within the same program. I definitely think that it is a huge positive.

I meant about player development. He cited player development was not good in the BCPFWL. So are they going to take all of the Ryle players? I thought I heard this team was going to be more selected.

What will the cost be for each player?

Who will they play?

I heard that they were goping to try to play teams in the NKY middle school league because they only have seven teams. Is this true?

If so they way it is being structure Ryle will have a team of 6-7 graders playing against teams that are made up of 6-7-8 graders. I think it would just be easier to tell your 7-graders to come out and play Freshman ball insteasd of going to the trouble of starting the new team.

Does the NKYMSFL still not allow blitzing and you have to play a certain defense. I know last year several teams had only about 20 kids. Are they hoping for better turn outs on those teams.

Why would those teams travel to Ryle for a scrimmage game?

I think all of Ryles games will be away if that is the case.

The interesting thing here is that almost every team in BCPWFL runs Ryles offense and defense to some degree.

Another thing about is now if they have three talented TEs for instance. They will only be able to play 2 at a time while one is on the bench. Where if they were on different teams in the league they would most probably all not be on the same team and getting more reps and experience. Same thing for QB's only one can play at a time. If it was set up like it is being proposed Conner Hempel would have never been given a chance to play qb. It would have been Lonkard and Hempel would have been TE.

From what I understand, you are supposed to live in the Ryle district to be a part of the program, and if it is a true system to try and develope the Ryle district kids, then they should accept all and not just the top players from the area. If this move takes place, the other high schools has better get on board quickly, or they won't have a chance to compete with Ryle in the future.

I know of several coaches within the the pee wee league that support this idea, and those are the coaches that do this for the pleasure of teaching fundamentals of the game.

Gotcha... I am quite sure that it is intended for the development of all kids living in a specific area, feeding into their respective high school. I would guess that each individual would have the option to stay in the BC Pee Wee system if they chose. We definitely don't need any more AAU teams, just kidding!

Nice point Deuce about being stacked at one position.... that is why I thought it was going to be more of a selected team at least starting off. I have also heard they would scrimmage Cincy area teams. Cost will probably be high unless they can get Ryle to kick in on equipment.

Also, good post Lovethgame33/Auscar.

BCPWFL has explored the idea of making the 7/8th grade teams formed by future high schools. They just haven't been able to launch the idea.

I am certain they can't compare to the South Kenton Lions.

:ohbrother: For second I thought I was SKfan36....

Truly, I hope it works; however in the younger ranks it is important to develop all the talent. You can have a lot of late bloomers....

Kinda sounds like you're against this idea. I do agree that they may be rushing into it to try and start the 2010 season, but it is by far the more logical way to build successful high school programs.

IMO most 7th graders are not mentally or quite physically ready enough to play freshman ball, and I don't see how that would build their confidence having to constantly go against kids that are mentally/physically more mature.

From what I have seen in the BCPWFL there are more different offensive sets than in college. You have a bunch of television ideas and not high school based sets thrown at these kids and it changes every two years as they are drafted to a different system. Then when they get to high school, they have to throw all of that out of the window to follow a strict guideline set by their district school. As a high school coach, I would much rather have kids coming in somewhat knowing my offensive and defensive sets.

Also, if a middle school school team is blessed enough to have 3 superior talented skilled players at one position, then they are as I said "blessed". The coachable thing to do is to take the top two and move that third player to a position that would help the team.

The feeder system is not about who gets to play the most, but more importantly who's developing to be the best player at a position once they get into high school.

Here's one to think on;

QB Johnny plays BCPWFL for 6 years 3 different teams. On each of those teams the game plan was dive, option, and sweep. On emergencies they threw a hail mary trick pass. QB Johnny would be perfect for Boone, but he lives in the Conner district. QB Johnny can't complete a pass beyond 15 yards because he never worked on timing routes, drop steps, footwork or any of the tangibles to be a Conner high school QB. So now in his freshman year at Conner, QB Johnny has to look for another position to learn within a year or two just to get on the field for high school ball.

I think it is a smart move. The current league has too many players and not enough resources.

Ru, why don't they just form more teams in the league when they have too many players on one team? How many kids are we talking about per team when you say there are too many players? What do they charge per kid to play in the league?

Actually in some divisions of BCPWFL one team could have maybe 20 kids or less while another has 30+. By the end of the season, you find teams that can't hold an 11 on 11 practice/scrimmage due to lack of players. Several kids are not playing because they don't have transportation to get them to a team they were drafted to that's clear across town so school based youth teams might be a better idea. The idea of forming more teams is a good one, but the financials for that is another story.
