No. 99 is a special number that Fugate earned the privilege to wear it for the Boone game. He lived up to expectations. What a great game for him! Only 2 catches but a TD and about 70 yds -- what exciting and excellent plays he made (with the help of some pretty fine passing from Hemple.) Congrats Trenton!

Ryle will play Pleasure Ridge Park (PHP for short) at home in two weeks. This is a magnet school academy in Louisville.

Does anyone have video or link (to YouTube, etc.) of the so-called 'camera guy' penalty? It would make a great post.

CovCath improved their passing game from the game earlier in the season with effective slants that opened up the field for Beatrice. Their ability to score after recovering Ryle's fumble on the opening kickoff set the tone for the game. Also, CovCath elected to take the wind in that opening quarter which made their passing game more effective. They did not score in the second quarter against the wind, but Ryle did with a very nice long pass. Field position was important in this game as well, but Beatrice's open field running was impressive. On a couple of them he simply was not touched and weaved in and out of potential tacklers. Second half was all CovCath as Ryle had to kick off and CovCath punched it in. At that point, when Ryle didn't answer, the game was over. I think the last two TDs were against Ryle 2's & 3's.

Dixie 42, Cov Cath 31 - Dixie just seems more tenacious, and probably a bit hungrier after a difficult season so far. Time for them to win a big one on their home turf. I do think their passing game is better as well - IMO...

No place to sit! Not to put the cart before the horse, but have they considered bringing in temporary bleachers?

What has changed for SK is Lawrence. Shutting down Simpson is not enough. Of course all of this speculation is based upon SK's severe beating of Ryle, which may have been partially one-sided due to the very poor weather conditions hurting Ryle's game plan more than SK's. Not that this is an excuse, its just fact. In the Ryle / SK game as soon as the rain stopped and the wind died down a bit Ryle scored 4 TDs and was matching SK even while Simpson ran wild in the 2nd half. All that being said, I like SK over Trinity this year. And if SK meets X in the semis they ought to move the game to PaPa's.

Conner's QB Nick West should be on this list.

One-third of Conner's total offense was gained during their last two (successful) desperation drives with less then 2-minutes left in the game after Ryle was up 31 - 7. They were nice drives. Makes you wonder where they were for the first 46 minutes?

Campbell's QB is very good. Cooper's passing game is nonexistent. I cannot see the running game (in the mud) being able to control this game. Campbell by 12.

Actually I would not be surprised to see a shutout here.

Geez people are testy on here. I would expect NKY's two most promising college QB prospects to light up the scoreboard in Union Friday night. Unlikely rain and wind will shut down Ryle's passing quite like last Thursday at SK and can't imagine Conner's D as stiff as Highlands and SK, and furthermore can't imagine Conner has quite the one-two punch running the ball as SK. Nonetheless, West has the opportunity to make some headlines if Ryle's defense can't stop him. Should be interesting.

I would love to see the Colonels win, but I have a hunch there will be a lot of talk about 'team speed' when this one is over. Need to get more of those state AA track champions to put on some pads.

CovCath ahead of Conner? Probably both of them should be in top 20, with Conner ahead of CovCath pending outcome of Ryle game.

Mead made a wind-aided 41 yard FG to tie the game against CovCath earlier this year. That one was a momentum swinger, and ironically happened after 3 consecutive PAT failures. Ryle then went on to win when prior to the kick it looked questionable. Kicking at the Freshman level is always an adventure because you need a lot more than a guy that can kick, but in this case the previous experience paid off big time.

Officials may not have the benefit of watching instant replays, but they do have the benefit of standing less than 10 feet from the action on two of the biggest plays of the game -- the non-fumble that was and the touchdown that wasn't (yet.) I think in these 2 cases they were literally right on top of the action. Both teams impacted, but not of equal impact to the momentum of the game.

Key play (IMO) in this one was Ryle fumbling Bone punt in 1st quarter deep in their own territory. It seemed to give Boone an emotional lift that carried with them almost the entire game, especially since Boone scored on the short field and then made a 2-pt conversion. It took Ryle the entire game to turn the tables. Boone played a very physical game and performed well and took it to the very end. Ryle scored just before the half to tie it up 8 - 8. Boone's biggest mistake may have been going for a 4th and 10 near midfield with about 2-minutes to play (which failed) and gave Ryle a shortened field to position themselves for a Mead 28 yard FG with very little time left on the clock.

I guess I struck a chord with the NON-FUMBLE THAT WAS REALLY A FUMBLE comment earlier but this was a critical call at a critical time early in the game. It could have easily resulted in a 7 - 7 game shortly thereafter. The confusion they created forced Ryle to take a timeout to get their D back on the field because the whole escapade took place over by the SK bench and was so unbelievable. I'm surprised Marksberry didn't call the over-ruling official over and give him a chest bump! Kudos to the refs for fooling the Fox commentators. They were completely dumbfounded after spending five minutes talking about updated SK turnover stats. At the same time I agree with whoever said Ryle played as if they were having pluviophobia -- however I am taking your word for the meaning of that one. Your vocabulary is way beyond my comprehension, but I think its true.

I think those that don't respect the fact that school districts - some laying off teachers and unable to pay for/build additional classroom space - have to pay for the repair their fields should volunteer to pay a 'gladiator tax' on behalf of their local high school. Maybe if they collect enough $$ they can all build artificial turf fields and play in the rain - but probably the same people complaining would be the first to stay home in the rain.

Difference in the game: 1. Lawrence's keepers - very well executed while Ryle's D was focused on swarming Simpson. 2. Weather - Ryle needed better weather, and how about some quick-fire passes to counter the blitzing linebackers? 3. Game plan - Ryle needed a better one for foul weather. SK had the 'right' one with two outstanding running backs - one or the other carrying the ball at all times. 4. 'THE NON-FUMBLE THAT WAS'. Not that is dictated the outcome of the game, but the officiating was unusually amateurish, not to mention the blatant hold on Carney on Simpson's screen pass run. Highlands would have theirs hands full against SK, particularly now that Bardo is out. It is indeed a shame that those two teams aren't going to play this year. Both teams exhibit superior team speed on both sides of the ball and good size up front. SK should be brimming with confidence after last night. For Ryle, they now have 8-days to heal, prepare and make necessary adjustments so they can win their next two games. Bottom line: Ryle needed to score on almost all of its possessions in order to win by outscoring SK because everyone knew going in SK would score a lot. Then perhaps Ryle could win as a result of superior special teams play, but the game was never close enough for that to matter and (again) the foul weather definitley hurt Ryle's O more than SK's, with lots of cold-handed receivers and not enough time in the pocket for Hemple in the first half. Making adjustments at halftime was simply too late in this one.

MaxPreps stats are entered by a team coach or designate. I have noticed a number of the state's top performers do not have their results posted, so hope by the end of the season everyone can get their team's top performers entered for comparison purposes.
