Ram Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 One of the reasons that I love football is because of the gladiator mentality involved in the sport, the struggle. Adversity from injury, adversity from size, adversity from the conditions. Baseball games are rained out, basketball is played inside, but football is outside, in the heat, the cold, the rain, and the snow. Why are games being postponed? Football is played in the rain, in the wind, in the snow, and in the heat. What's going on?

Does'nt seem to be anything worse than what we played in several times last year. :idunno:
jvdfc Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I thought I heard that there was to be a lot of lightning this evening around kick-off time. At least in Central Ky.

Ram Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 I'd say in these tough economic times the cost of repairing a trashed field is a major factor... Come on, are we really going to blame every little thing on "these tough economic times"? Really?
gchs_uk9 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I thought I heard that there was to be a lot of lightning this evening around kick-off time. At least in Central Ky. Looking at the weather map, it appears the red and yellow storms on the map have already gone through the Lexington-Somerset area. They are currently near Morehead through London. It's only rain behind that. It doesn't appear that it will be storming anywhere in Kentucky at 7:30.
nees1212 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I'd say in these tough economic times the cost of repairing a trashed field is a major factor... That was my exact thought too, especially with another 3 or 4 weeks to play.
CoachBuckett Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Big Storms. Tornado warnings have been issued
4chs Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I'd say in these tough economic times the cost of repairing a trashed field is a major factor... That plus the revenue lost by people staying at home and out of the weather.
gchs_uk9 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 That was my exact thought too, especially with another 3 or 4 weeks to play. I wouldn't think many teams in Kentucky have 3-4 more home games left. Most should have something like one this week and one in two weeks, then maybe one or two in the playoffs. Will it really be that damaging? Is Noah calling for forty more days of rain?

Hatz Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I too couldn't believe the way games in VA were postponed due to rain. And the question of economic times has less to do with the economy of the field (IMO) than the economy of the ticket booth. Folks, if it is a downpour rain, you can count on losing half of your gate receipts. You only get 4 to 6 of those to finance your team or program. (IN our case the band runs concessions and they would take a major hit there) It is economy but not the bad one. It's the economy of fund raising for our athletics because school budgets are too stretched on basics to afford losing the extra income for sports. BTW, I'm not justifying it, I'm trying to explain the reasons why.
