KHSAA Title Games in Bowling Green VS The 'Ville
I felt so much closer to the field.. It was, as someone mentioned, a perfect sized stadium for these games.. I agree the concession could have offered more.. But parking wasn't a problem or traffic.. The club level was very good.. It all started off right with the Lone Oak/Boyle Game..WOW!! What an atmosphere.. As a coach, Bowling Green was not as accomodating ina sense that you couldn't get a cab for 20 min.. But as far as football, I knew the smaller stadium would make for a really great atmosphere for football.. Just beef up the concession stand...

Harlan County 29 Leslie County 8
Leslie's lack of depth killed them in this game. Only dressed 23. It was real slobber knocker, though. Lelsie just can't get over the hump. Lelsie only has 5 seniors and 3 juniors, so things are looking up. I was proud of them, and the way they came out and really stood toe to toe with Harlan co. and that huge offensive line. Randen Collett is a beast!! Double and triple teamed all night and was still a force.. Thats all we heard from the Harlan CO. O-line after the game, what a beast 61 was.

Will Meehan be Eligible for Hazard?
I don't know how he could be. Especially after playing football for LCA in the fall. Don't you have to wait a calender year from the transfer date to be eligible?

2009 Leslie County
Leslie Co. will be alot better football team in 2009. Gone are just 3 Seniors from last years team. One of which put a gap between himself and the team, which caused chaos in most games. Back are 10 starters on defense, including Randen Collett (WYMT-TV 1st Team ALL Muntain Defense/ Courier Journal Honorable Mention DT and Cody Hensley (WYMT-TV/Courier Journal Honorable Mention) This defense took its lumps playing the best this part of the state had to offer. But those 6 freshmen are sophomores now, and everyone that is back has hit the weightroom HARD. Returning on Offense are 9 starters. The Jimmy Joe Morgan era has ended in Leslie Co.(Shew!!) And Leslie will go to the field with Soph. Troy Napier. Napier doesn't have the arm of Morgan, but his footwork and Leadership Skills are light years ahead. Something Leslie was missing last year. Leslie also returns Cody Hensley and Dustin Ballard in the receiving core. Leslie will have 3 Sr. Running Backs, and 1 Sophomore to pack the load. I expect Sr. Lance Coots and Sr. Blake Brown to see most of the carries, but So. Chris Maggard will get his touches too, depending on his work ethic. One of the weeker points of this team will be the offensive line. They just don't seem to grow them like they used to in Leslie Co. The anchors will be Sr. Randen Collett and So. John Brewer. After this, Leslie will look to put a line together from players who are there, some new players coming out, and maybe a freshman. Leslie's biggest hurdle last year was numbers. Dressing in the low 20's kept Leslie from hitting and tackleing alot in practice, which led to Leslie not being the typical hard hitting team they are known for. Leslie has 26 in spring practice, 8 playing baseball, and should get between 15-20 freshmen, so the numbers will be back up. Leslie's schedule was one of the toughest around last season, but this years schedule is a bit lighter. Theres alot of travelling to be done this year, though, as Leslie will have to travel to Clinton Co. (WK 2) McCreary Central (Wk 4) Morgan Co. (Wk. 5) Shelby Valley(Wk 6) Corbin (Wk 9) and Perry Central (Wk 10) Leslie's Home games include: Hazard (Wk 1) Harlan Co. (Wk. 3) Middlesboro (Wk 7) and Knott Co. (Wk. 8)

Mountain teams and their schedules
Right, just the overrall schedule strength, record wise, is down. No disrespect to anyone. Just having to play all those 5A teams and the 4A state champs, with us on the borderline of 2A/1A, was a tough task when you only had 3 seniors and started 6 freshmen.

Mountain teams and their schedules
Leslie makes a HUGE downgrade in schedule this year. Taking all those freshmen to the schedule they did last year, really makes this year look like a promising year. Week 1 Hazard H Week 2 Clinton Co. A Week 3 Harlan Co. H Week 4 McCreary A Week 5 Morgan Co. A Week 6 Shelby Valley A Week 7 Middlesboro H Week 8 Knott Co. H Week 9 Corbin A Week 10 Perry Central A Still a good schedule, but nothing like last years. They drop Bell, Letcher, Clay, North Laurel, Lynn Camp. Replace them with Clinton Co., Morgan Co., Shelby Valley, Hazard, Harlan Co.

Border Bowl
How were the players picked?

Bell County 17 Boyle County 15
I was there as a neutral as well. Here are some of my observations: -Bell's defense will knock you out!!! They fly to the ball and when they get there, boy do they finish. As apparent on that 2Pt. convertion when it looked like the QB was gonna run it in easy, and someone came through like Ronnie Lott and knocked the ball five yards backwards along with the QB. -Boyle has the best TACKLING defense I've ever seen. Well, except on that quick pass where the corner missed a tackle and a Bell receiver got down to the 1 or something. When they get to you, you're tackled. -Boyle didn't utilize they stud receiver enough. I think he only caught a couple of balls. The QB wasn't really rushed all night, because it looked like Bell wasn't trying to get a pass rush, just trying to contain that TB(who is as quick as a skinned cat!!)

D1 prospects in the state of Kentucky Regardless of Class
I think so too. A run to the state championship game may get him in the spotlight. Usually, there are some Belfry players who go to Marshall, because they see alot of their games. I know in the 90's, there were some linemen who went to Marshall, I think they were Blackburns, am I correct on this?

D1 prospects in the state of Kentucky Regardless of Class
He ran that time at a camp last summer. Also, his shuttles are as quick as any back on the team. He's quick, for about 10-20 yards. Randen currently has 23 film requests from DII and DI FCS and FBS schools. Randen has been getting mail from Eastern (FCS), Western (FBS), Liberty (FCS), Wofford (FCS), Middle Tenn. (FCS), Marshall (FBS), Bowling Green (FBS), Ohio U (FBS), Georgia St. (FCS), and Charleston Southern (FCS). And 7-8 DII schools. No, he's not going to Florida or Ohio St., but, as someone mentioned in a post above, DI is more than BCS schools. And I don't think there are many BCS recruits in this state. Thats not saying the talent isn't here, it's just, not many recruiters amke the journey to Kentucky to recruit.
