Ad South Oldham to the list. They want a refined crowd of suit wearing opera goers. As far as students....their excitement is squashed by admin to the point that most don't even attend. It is sad.

It will depend on how SO is shooting. If they are hitting the 3-ball, watch out! The problem is if they are not, all 5 guys are not near the rim for rebounds. The Kramer kid and Jewit kid are solid, the rest are getting better. The game will go as the three ball goes.

They open against Woodford, that takes the place of 6A Eastern. They dropped 2 other 6A teams in Nelson and Shelby. They also dropped a Strong 1A Holy Cross team. They picked up Henry County that should be down this coming year and a 2 - 8 Owen County 2A team. I looked at KHSAA website to see what all SO did last year, it looked to me like they generally scored enough points to win games. Their issue seems to be defense. When they played Shelby, both teams were o'fer. Shelby put 62 on them. From all I have been told, (publically and Privately), SO has skilled kids that they have been waiting for to mature. I did not realize that they did not have skilled kids that last couple of years. But they should get at least 4 wins this year. I Hope they get more than that, OC should stay strong in the district along with Anderson. Grant will be a question mark as I do not know how heavy they were with upperclassmen this past year. J-Town has been aproblem for SO with their speed. North Bullit without the Cissel kid will be a new look. North Oldham will lose a bit but I think they will reload this year based on what I hear is in the wings there. I will go 5 - 5 While 3 of the 4 teams they did not reschedule were pretty much losses, 3 of the 4 they replaced them with should be wins. Good Luck Dragons!

They may not come out and directly say it, but they imply that their chances will be reduced if they do not participate. I have no problem with a coach making it mandatory for people that "ARE NOT" involed in another in-season sport at that thime. But to make those implications to a kid that is working to make another team in your school, is ludacris. A whole lot of them do it. Basketball coaches telling kids that if they are not on the summer team, he can't be sure that they will make the team in the fall, others will increase their BB skills while you are playing football. Same from Football coaches about spring ball and conditioning to baseball players. It happens all of the time, just in a very subtle manner.

I think that Shelby was very Young, but played a very good schedule. That youth getting that experience, should go a long way.

Its not 78 MALE, they had concrete bleachers back then at Brook and Breck. Maybe a Mid 70's Shelby County?

I don't want to offend anyone, but they do need a win. I think the schedule should give them a little better opportunity. Hopefully they can get it in gear so that all of the teams in the OC are competitive. I will wait to see what others thinks as I have some of my own ideas.

First of all there should be the option for spring football. Basketball, Baseball, and soccer are basically year-round sports that keep kids from Football. Someone said as long as it was fun for the kids and not mandatory. Is the other year-round sports mandatory? If they are not, why do more kids not skip them for Football. Because the coach says, "you can play other sports, but if you are not around in the summer, you may not be in the starting line-up." The fun part is up to individual coaches. If one truely understands that kids today do not need all of the negativity that can come with participating in sports, and understands that every kid is motivated differently, and can apply that to his team, then it will be fun and he will be successful. Spring football should be kept. 7 on 7 should be allowed without worrying about basketball or the other WINTER sports.

I believe that in the OC, it is up to the coach. Jefferson County is Killer with this stuff. Look back to the fall. The only real issue was people had no power. No dangerous roads, nothing. Yet they still could not practice. If the parents can get the kids there, then they should be able to practice. There should not be a penalty if a kids parents cannot make arringements for him to get to practice.

I understand the point of the community showing more interest when you are playing more of the kids but, do they come out when your losing, but playing more kids? Put your athletes on the field. Give your Athletes the ball. Run to your Athletes side. Coach for today, not tomorrow.

They palyers need to respect the coaching staff. The coaching staff needs to respect the players. Everyone wants to talk about building a dynasty. Not everyone can be a dynasty. How do you stop decline? That is where most schools fall. You have to have the administrative support that will do whatever is necessary to build a strong Football program. If the administration doesn't care they will simply be pleased with mediocrity and that is what they will get until the players and parents get tired of it and begin to defect. Then you are down the drain. It all starts with the middle of the road teams to not turn their backs on kids. If kids are walking the halls and not playing, do you know why? Are you trying to get them back or do you tell them we will do it without you? Before long, you will be doing it by yourself. Most of us do not have the luxury of X & T, that we can afford to just let kids keep walking away.

I have read your posts, and I don't remember saying "homerun", I disagree with you. All I did was ask a simple question. There are "divisions", "classes", and "differences" in all walks of life and sport. Every level of sport is Divisioned out, 1A, 1AA, NAIA, etc..... So why the hate? Just asking.

How many of the anti-class system posters still play beer league softball? How is the team your on classified and WHY? Why are all mens slow pitch softball teams not only in one class? Old guys need trophies to or is it skill level?

Class them. 3 classes would be sufficient for Baseball, Basketball, soccer, Volleyball, Softball, all of them.

I will not comment to South Oldham as not to offend anyone. I will comment to the climate. Places like that want to compete with these schools probably have more kids playing mutiple sports. If a coach turns his back on a kid because he is not at this sports conditioning so that he can be at the one coming up, then they lose that kid and not get him back. Most schools cannot afford to lose kids. The elite programs in the state CAN tell a kid that they do not need him. X, T, Highlands and such have enough dedicated athletes that want to continue that tradition that they can reload. Have a starting DB get hurt at one of these schools and you may never see him again. His replacement took over and is just as good. There are a lot of BIG kids walking the halls in a lot of schools, not playing football because their coach ran them off. The problem is that most do not have another BIG kid to replace him. I saw all three schools in the county play this year. You said SO best player couldn't play for these other schools? I would say that all three schools had a couple of skill positon kids that would be well known and would have scholarships if they played for some of the elite teams. Most schools want to beat the elites, they want to be like the elites. Yet they cannot afford to... they can't afford to lose the kids. Kids have to buy into your system, your program and your vision. If you cannot sell those things to your kids, then a team will be marred in mediocrity. I know that in the smaller communities, the football tradition brings people to the games, encourages kids to prepare to be a "insert your Team Mascot", and it is all people talk about. Around Louisville, no one really cares. Go to a game, not a big game just a regular game. Go to Oldham county vs J-Town. Maybe 500 people. Most people there are Football parents, Cheer Parents, Dance Parents, and Band Parents. Where are the teachers, administrators, and members of the community? Go to a highlands, t or x game. All of the above are there, along with students, and community folks and even larger still......ALUMNI. Culture, none of the elite teams would be elite if their administration did not help encourage them to become elite. You must have that support, and that expectation to become elite from the top down. Most folks talk the talk, but there is not any walkin. It is a climate, that is inspired by Coaches, Tradition, Administration, Parents, and Success. Nothing more...Nothing Less. Hope I did not say anything wrong, just would love to see more teams in the championships. Tired of rewinding.

I believe that in the younger ages an Big Barrel bat is the difference between a strike and foul tip. I agree with Col. Mike, all of these kids using big barrels without proper instruction have the worst swing mechanics. High school coaches can't fix it because that is how dad taught them and he played on a little league all-star team. With the $30.00 smaller barrel bats the kids develope better hand / eye coordination in order to just make contact. Get them acustomed to hitting with these, the a big barrel when the get to high school will be like swinging a telephone pole. I am not big on high $ bats. My son jus got his first bat that cost over $200.00 for Christmas this year. He hit just fine with $150.00 bats for several years.

Col. Mike - Thanks for the answer and I agree that we should be beating up on other schools. It just seems to me that the hype that is stirred by playing the other county schools is wild. Be it Football, Basketball or Baseball. Trash is talked, fur flies, and it can get a little dirty, but what fun. I just see an OC vs NO game as a money making, trash talking, smackdown, that should stir a lot of interest in the county. South has always played OC, even when they were different classes. I just think the last couple of years would have been fun to see a OC vs NO game.

Col. Mike - Why do North and OC NOT play each other? It would have been a matchup I would have liked to see. Glory days are ahead for NO. This is just the beginning for the mustangs. OC has the rich tradition. SO has been around long enough to be considered a legal adult. NO 6 years old. Great accomplishments from them with better days ahead. Western Hills Warriorines! Making the point that contact cannot be bought. For me $399 bats and $250 bats cannot be that different in pop and flex, as long as you are apples to apples.(aluminum vs aluminum/ composite vs composite). They are all manufacturing to the same basic specifications. So now it comes to contact and contact points. Bats that range from $100 to $250 cannot be so different either. I know that there are minor differences in all bats, but I believe that the batter and his contact make the difference in Home Runs and Long Outs. With my Golf swing, I hit a steel shaft club longer than the flex shafts. My club heads are much smaller than those my friends use, yet I will out drive them when my contact is right. My clubs cost $150, 15 years ago and I have never wanted to 'upgrade". I have tried the newer stuff and I am not as comfortable with them. In professional baseball, how much difference can their be in those bats? Other than Length, Weight, Handle Circumference, Barrell Circumference, any difference in pop?

I really think that as much as the Tangs lost.... They will just reload next year. There is a lot of young talent and Coach Martin and his staff have them believing in Mustang Pride. Right now it is hard to argue that they do not own the county.

I have not heard good things about the sv12. I have never been a fan of the NIKE bat, but this year there is some really good discussion about this bat. I do believe that the bat does not make near the difference the batter makes. I can strike out with a $500 bat just like I do a $50 bat.
