  1. We can't stop their ghost trap!
  2. I have read all these posts and can't say that anyone is wrong in how they approach this topic. I am a former player and now the team doctor. We still go full pads on Tuesday-Wednesday and wrap up vs tackling to the ground. Our practices are dictated by the new rules regarding light thud, hard thud and "regular" contact. Our practices are tough and physical. Our head coach and I had a discussion regarding scaling practice contact back to lessen the physicality. I told him not to change anything because this is a contact sport and it is my opinion that the practice contact prepares you for the Friday night contact and lessens the chance of injury. Obviously, if a kid is banged up we lessen his contact but as a rule, 'you play like you practice'. The one huge thing we are overlooking is that IF you allow your kid to play football the inherent risk of "football" injuries is present. IF you do not want your kids exposed to the risk of these types of injuries, do not let them play. Football is a tough and challenging sport and it comes with risk. If you do not want sore aching joints and scarred knees, do not play or allow your son to play. I do not say this as a judgement statement or as a sarcastic comment, just fact. I have had surgeries and have joint aches and would not change one thing. Football is a great sport and it comes with the chance of injuries. As so many of us were taught, 'football is the game of life', it has taught me so much more than I could ever give back to it. Many times I have been asked if it was worth it and I always answer, "I'd go back and play in a second!"
  3. At the beginning of the year, I would have said West Carter. But as of the last 3 weeks, I'll have to go with Fleming Co.
  4. Since we are 1A and in the District with Paintsville, I have to say 100% YES! LOL
  5. My comment you quoted has nothing to do with where Russell is ranked or should be ranked. I just stated a sad reality to Russell's season; when they play Belfry, their season will be over.
  6. Defensively, they appear top tier but offensively, they're suspect. Their non-district schedule is decent but their District is bad. Belfry looms in their playoff future and that does not bode well.
  7. No one for sure but enrollment at Open is at an all-time high. With increased numbers, they are scheduling several games on the same night and dividing up and going to different venues. They have to be pretty good because they never play at home.
  8. KHSAA has denied our formal complaint regarding the illegal blocking schemes that Open uses. After reviewing the film, they couldn't see anything.......:ohbrother:
  9. I'd love to see GC win this one but Johnson Central is the best team in 4A and won't be denied this Friday.
  10. I have informed the coaches that the injured players will have to set this one out. Open is notorious with their blindside crack blocks and cut blocks. We can't take a chance.
  11. I agree with everything said. We played as I expected. It is Homecoming week, week before the dreaded game with Open and just possibly looking forward to District games...... Any way you slice it, we played subpar and still scored 43. Not too shabby. As far as injuries go, nothing too bad.
  12. Across the street on the East side is a bank parking lot and another business. If you get there early enough, you can park there.
  13. Best team in 1A rolls to a victory.
  14. Running clock Greenup continues to win.
  15. Well, wonder if @LRCW will come to our game and enjoy the wonderful concessions that his belly so desires? Hmmmmmmm
  16. :thumb: Do I get a membership card or discounts at any gas station facilities?
  17. I was going to say the same thing. This will be won by the team that has improved the most over the first 6 weeks. I pick Russell in a close one.
  18. The kinder softer Matney only plays the starters until the 10 minute mark of the 4th qtr. :puke:
  19. After being subjected to the officials from the Athens, OH area at West Portsmouth (OH) this past Friday, I will never speak ill of our NEKY officials.
  20. Newsflash 8-26 has picked against the Rams. I didn't see this one coming.....:idunno:
  21. Don't mention the "O" team!!!!! we have to stay focused on the Dawgs.
