I was told that this CovCath team played the Highlands kids twice as 7th graders and smoked them twice. Speaks well for the Birds kids putting in the work.

If the Campbell kid is varsity backup, likely means he has pays JV, so why play frosh football?

Well you can only blow the doors off by running the football. Have to have patience as a play caller to develop the run game and then the pass game benefits. Still need to develop an intermediate passing game.

As I said in the LexCath game thread, the offensive line for Highlands is not the issue. They gained well over 5 yards per rush attempt. Problem is the play calling, it has no real scheme. Passing game consists of throw deep or throw bubble screens. No intermediate game. That also caused some problems last year. Defensive scheme struggles on the edge and also in the vertical passing game. The 4 man front does not work unless you have two speedy guys on the edges. Ferring did some of that late and had success. Putting two guys over one split end makes no sense either. Walk that LB up to the line of scrimmage and set the edge or better yet heat up the quarterback. This will be a tight game IMO.

After sleeping on it a bit, here are my thoughts. Offense will be very solid. Big line that can move which enables you to do a lot of things. Defense needs some work. Poor tackling and find a way to hold the edge and the pass right down the middle. It was a scrimmage, so these things can be fixed. This team will be in the conversation for a state championship in 5A.

So where does Lorenzen, Williams and Jacobs factor in at the varsity level?

The Reds organization is just a mess and has been for quite some time. Always looking for young talent and cannot develop it. The coaching staff is also not good. Way too many strikeouts and far too many walks. Guys get a bad pitch call at plate and just put head down and walk to dugout. Everyone wants to tear it down and rebuild, well you cannot do that every few years.

That was my line of thinking, just did not state it well.

If a kid has played a varsity sport and transfers they are not eligible for varsity action. They can play JV the entire year irregardless of the KHSAA ruling.

Just got notified of one for Hamilton County Ohio.

Beechwood will be having an 8th grade football team this year so numbers must be good.

Have to say that person is 100% on the money. Another example of how poorly run this franchise is under this ownership.

Softer part of their schedule is big reason. But then again that is how you work your way into better habits and get your team back in the race.

Hearing a former 9th region and state champ winning team from a District rival.

Any news here? Hearing a name that would shock the region and district.

Lesser part of schedule and they need to win more of these than they lose to creep back into contention. Need to concentrate on winning one series at a time.
