The 8th grade team last year won the 8th grade championship, but noticed when watching them play Highlands frosh last week that two big receivers were not on the team. Where did they go? This years 8th grade team has good size and a really athletic quarterback for that level but he does pretty much everything. Begs the question if middle school championships are more important than developing kids as football players for future high school success.

And just two short years ago these kids were pretty much written off. Showed progress last year and it has continued. Guess that is what happens when coaches teach them the game and how it is played. Addition of Kremer was the missing piece, but others have been really solid and continue to improve each week.

Stop. This organization is a loser, always has been and always will be. Tired of every year hearing this is their year and then start 0-3,1-4 or whatever. Just like the Reds. People need to be realistic in that the two owners only worry about the bottom line and not winning NOW.

Did you forget the long run right before the half? That occurred because of defensive scheme in not setting the edge. Has nothing to do with player talent or the class that they are in. Many times on deep balls to middle of field the safety was a left on and island and if they go the wrong way then it is a long gain or touchdown. My glass isn’t anything. Just tell it as I see it, just like after Male scrimmage I stated that this team had the talent to compete for the state title this year while many others were saying a year away. Also said the Dixie game does not have to be a blowout to prove anythin as a win is a win and gets one week closer to the playoffs.

Likely same three I am thinking of. Twins saw some action on Saturday and the punter is a sophomore.

Did you forget about the long TD run at end of first half that luckily turned into a touchback because of hustle by Surrey? Also several long passes completed, a few for touchdowns and several that were near misses. Some good plays by DB’s on several passes, but this defense as run cannot set the edge on run plays not defend the deep pass. That results from the scheme being run.

Little confused here on the dominating win. A win is a win. I said after the Male scrimmage that this team has the weapons to compete and I still believe that. I have little faith in the defensive scheme being able I win games against quality opponents. Offensively they do some good things, but they never seem to find a rhythm. Things to work on over next few weeks.

In my opinion all jobs are open and up for grabs after this season. Every team has injuries and good teams overcome them. I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts on a starting 8 to start the discussion.

Well if you have guys consistently in the top of the league in strikeouts, homers mean very little when it comes to winning games.

From a hitting perspective emphasize contact over power. From pitching perspective emphasize the art of pitching versus throwing. Jeff Brantley talks about it all the time on broadcasts.

This is kind of where I am. Changes in philosophy need to be made throughout the organization. Emphasis on contact for hitters and pitching with a purpose rather than how hard one throws. I am most curious to see how the off-season goes from a roster construction standpoint.

Well having a night to sleep on it and reflect may help my perspective a bit. Offense last night was vanilla for a reason, namely Cooper game this week. Did show some new formations that Cooper now has to work on. Passing game is very suspect right now as combination of routes doesn’t make much sense and honestly not hard to cover. How about using Tayden Lorenzen more in the offensive package besides blocking. Kid is gifted and needs to become more involved. May even a series or two here and there like was done last year for Litmer. People are not going to like this, but defense needs some scheme work. Cannot set the edge and very susceptible to getting beat deep middle in the passing game. Too many times the safeties are put on an island and left to guess which way to go. Get out of the even front and balance your safeties a bit or O’Hara is going to have a BIG night.

Moeller would smoke every team in NKY by however many they choose to score.

Well they had a good young coach that was a Highlands grad and ran him off. Guess state final appearances were not enough. Seems most hires by this AD and principal have not gone too well. Also concerns me when two HHS grads who each had great success have chosen to step aside. Is it possible that all of these situations are related?

You are preaching to the wrong person. It is still a little early, but there are some areas that need to improve over the next couple of weeks if this team has aspirations to make a title run.

If you are happy with that fine. Will not win a title.

The frosh QB for Campbell was knocked out with concussion after playing just a few plays. Those that think Highlands walked through this game better go watch the film. Campbell had ball inside the 20 three times and turned ball over. Liked what I saw from Highlands offense last night, defense is another story. Still work to be done in that area.
