InsideSlant Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 LexCath’s defense looked very disciplined and fast to the ball. Their offense struggled to move the ball and shot themselves in the foot with numerous false starts. If they get the penalties cleaned up they may have a pretty solid year.
El Diablo Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Highlands OLine did not push around Lex Cath like I thought they would. They have some running to do. Head scratcher because Lex Cath nose man weighed like 90 lbs. Disappointed on the lack of Lorenzens involvement in the game. Rio will get more comfortable taking off when there is no one to pass to. He was waiting very long, way way too patient for his WRs. He could have taken off for 20 free yards many times. He looks good though. 1

Shocked by that LexCath didn't look very good in the scrimmage against SK.

LexCath did look much better than they did a couple of weeks ago in the scrimmage I watched. I know, scrimmage. I agree, disciplined and fast. 2

Same, I thought Highlands would be able to line up and run right at LexCath. It has to be disappointing for Highlands.
MBKT Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Some of us had Highlands already playing at UK in early December. Maybe not. 1

They have a great base and a ton of talent. Sky is the limit. First game came out flat and quiet, still won. That’s a good sign. They have a lot of gelling to do. Once that happens they should be contenders. Too much talent. 2
tdyballgame Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Interesting take on game so far. I think Highlands did have their way with the line play. Running backs ran hard and did well. I would love to see average yardage run play. Actual designed running plays. I was dumbfounded by the Highlands defense not knowing what to do several plays throughout the game. Now Tommy Feering knew the assignment. Great game by him. Lots to improve on all around. Better to be 1-0 than 0-1. On to CovCath. Better get ready Birds! #24n24 3
TheDeuce Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Not quite the showing Highlands was expecting, I’d imagine. Pretty meh result. 1
Cousin Chris Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 This was the one game this week that I was most sure of. I thought Highlands would put a running clock on LC. I guess that’s why they play the games.

FrankNicodemus Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Glad to walk out of the stadium with a win. It was the first game of the season with a ton of players that had never played as much as that night and they got the job done! Yes they made mistakes, that's what happens with inexperience in my opinion. Bright spots in my opinion: 1 guy stood out the most for me on that D, Tommy Ferring! I think someone said it in the Update thread, that guy was awesome, if I am not mistaken I think he got 3 sacks last night and was in there to disrupt the backfield even more. Rio has some super nice zip on his passes, just need to get a little bit more accurate on those deep balls and this could become a special season. OLine was nice but could be better, again in time I have no doubt the coaching will get this line needs to be at the end of the season. What they need to do is clean up the stupid penalties, way to many gifted yards given to LC, with the unsportsmanlike penalties, taunting (just had 1 but that's 1 too many), won't be able to get away with those when you go up against Cov Cath or Cooper or in the playoffs....luckily we survived last night with them. Super excited about next week, I think we will have 2 teams very hungry to prove a lot after this past weekend. #GOBIRDS!!!!
BillNye Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I watched most of this game last night, and while the score doesn't indicate it, at no point was I concerned that Highlands was going to lose. For the most part, I'd probably attest the score just to first game jitters and breaking in a new team. Lex Cath did do some good things though. I'll be interested to see how the Birds handle next week. 1
