Morehead State and Pikeville College both have nationally-ranked bowling teams. The Pikeville women's team won the national championship two or three years ago. Men's top 50. Women's top 50.

South Carolina beat UF by a 21-3 margin the other day.

Don't blame East Ridge for losing this one. The Phelps Little League has been producing good players for some time now and they have good coaching at all levels, as well.

What school? I voted for somebody All-State from NKy when I was still in the news business. And boom ... broadcast members of the AP are also eligible to vote for All-State. However, I believe that last year roughly half as many members voted for basketball All-State as they did for football (something like 24 for footie and 12 for hoops, assuming I haven't completely forgotten). Anybody have a list of who voted? I'm curious to know if the two eligible Eastern Kentucky papers (in Pikeville and Prestonsburg) even submitted nominations. I always voted when I was at Pikeville, but I believe the sports editor at Prestonsburg is under the incorrect assumption that he's not eligible to either nominate vote. (Yes, Steve, you are.)

That's ridiculous. Reread it. They implemented the shot clock in the NBA to save the game. Be serious for a minute: How many fans do you know who actually like to watch stall basketball?

Nice big long post ... that's all smoke and mirrors. It's a fact that a public high school with 2,000 students will be able to find a better group of 12 athletes for a basketball team than a public high school with 400. If you don't believe me, please compare Pikeville and Jeffersontown, or Lynn Camp and Male, and so on, and so on, and so on. The single-class tournament is nostalgic, and quaint, and may have had its place once upon a time. But times have changed. I guarantee you that when they came up with the single-class tournament, they didn't have to deal with the kinds of enrollment disparities that we see today. Stop defending the indefensible.

And that is the crucial disadvantage that gives theguru's argument legitimacy. Two thousand students gives you more of a pool to find 12 talented players in than 400 does. Anyone who tries to explain it away with excuses is lying, disingenuous or far out of touch with reality. The system is patently unfair.

26-6 against the 9th-toughest schedule in the state (holding the teams on the schedule to an average of 4701 points per game), 7th in the Massey Ratings (and beat the then-5th team to win the 5th Region) , 10th in the Cantrall rankings, and has lost two games since Christmas. Massey has Magoffin ranked 33rd overall with the 173rd-rated scoring defense, by the way.

You're missing the point: A 3A or 4A school like Male or J'town has a much, much larger talent pool to draw from than a Paintsville, South Floyd or Ashland Fairview can draw from. There's a reason the EKy schools have no chance whatsoever at a state basketball championship anymore, and that reason is less talent available to pull from. To put it bluntly, you have a better chance of finding 3 superstar players in a 2000-student high school than you do in a 400-student high school. The one-class tournament's time is past. It's not fair to the kids.

Why? So Trinity or St. X can win it every year?

Don't be so sure of that. E'town is one of the top three teams in the state tournament, and center KaBrenda Warfield has Division I mid-majors like Miami (Ohio) and Morehead looking at her for the spring signing period.
