Pike County Bowl?
I understand both sides but facts are facts, without Belfry and Pikeville there is no Pike Co. Bowl, no reason for one. Who would drive into Pike Co. to play Shelby Valley or East Ridge?

2008 Rowan County
How is Rowan looking? Did they scrimmage?

Montgomery County/Mason County Scrimmage
Both teams played well. Montgomery is young and the those guys got plenty of reps last night. I thought the varsity played well for both teams.

2008 Fleming County
Why weren't they there last year? What type of offense will Fleming run?

Is Carter suiting up for Ashland this year?
It may be best for him and the team. Sounds like a lot of distractions to me. I could be wrong. I wish Ashland and particularly the player the best.

2008 George Rogers Clark
I agree, Clark has as much talent as anyone in KY.

What quality coach doesn't want committed athletes? Like I said earlier, coaching in all the sports has improved and the demands on athletes has changed. Todays coaches, in all the sports, may want their players to be committed to their sport only, but all coaches know its a selfish thought and the good ones try to accomodate their fellow coaches and the players. Just like a soccer player kicking for football. This should be happening at every school where a soccer player has an interest in doing so. Keep in mind,by rules of the KHSAA, a coach in KY can't prevent a player who plays baseball from participating in football in the fall because he doesn't participate in the spring football program.

I respect all four of our major sport coaches. But, you've missed this one. Players decide which sport they will play. Some have chosen to focus on one or two sports. Coaching in KY, in all the sports, has improved dramatically over the past ten years. Look at facilities, many improvements have been made statewide, not just at MC. Sports Illustrated even had a cover story a few years back about the 3 sport high school athlete being a rare thing these days. The issue is not the coaches. It's the demands of the sports themselves. Lets all face it, AAU, not coach Greisner, changed the basketball scene forever. The days of a 6'3 kid walking the hallways and being talked into playing basketball and the kid actually being able to compete are long gone. In baseball, pitchers just don't throw it hard, the actually pitch, is that our baseball coaches fault. In football, teams don't run pass plays to a specific receiver, the recievers run routes and the QB has to read the coverage on the fly, is this Gooch's problem. I don't think so. These young men and women need some time to hang out and be teenagers too. Every sport won't get every kid, plain and simple. The players will decide and it won't be based on the coaches or the facilities. If that is the case, MC would be turning kids away from every sport because the school system has provided the players with wonderful facilities and coaches. I hope we are getting done academically too.

Will they scrimmage at Putnam?

Louisville Central's Mister Cobble has "minor" knee injury per his coach:
I hope he returns soon. Looking forward to seeing him this season.

2008 George Rogers Clark
Was Columbia the coach of the state championship team. I remember when the folks in Clark co. thought he was awesome. Has the game changed and he hasn't ...or have the players and parents attitudes changed? I say this because I think the above is a harsh commentary of a quality coach.

2008 Montgomery County
I believe he decided to focus on basketball during his senior year. I believe this has already been discussed in this thread.

Are numbers down everywhere
Football is played a much higher level in KY, than it was even 10 years ago. Because of this the demands on the players go up. I see the level of coaching improving at many schools not just the historically good programs. If you show up today in July and try to get ready to play you can guarantee one thing, and that is you will get your head warmed up on Friday nights. Parents....are we getting too soft on our young men or what?

What grade is this player?

Has Coach Lively Left Powell?
He is young isn't he? He did a nice job as well. He must have been ready to get out of coaching. Is he from that area?

2008 Boyd County
Is Russell getting a lot of kids...they do have a nice program in that area.

2008 Boyd County
How many players did they have last year?

Montgomery Co 2008/2009
I guess we should all wait for the official word on this one. If he wants to go I hope it works out.

Montgomery Co 2008/2009
I'm 90% certain its true. Good luck to Coach Hundley....should be a great experience.

Montgomery Co 2008/2009
Good kid, best of luck to him. No need to jab him. If he makes the team he will get the chance to play for a great coach, but no better than the coach he had at MC. Too small to play under, and not sure the ball handling is there for outside play. I don't understand this one.

Did Montgomery lose any players to transfers out?

'79 Semifinals: Belfry 14 Highlands 8
My view on that is you could increase the risk of injury to a player, so I would say that would harm the game. I can't see how this compares to the game we are discussing. Its a comparison, just not a good one.

'79 Semifinals: Belfry 14 Highlands 8
There were deserving young men at BHS as well. We were 11-0 coming into HHS. Its not like we came up there in the dead of night and stole the game. We did the old fashioned way.

Thanks for the support on that one. It wasn't meant to do harm to the game. Just strategy.
