Very happy for the kid. TN is big time as it gets. As for UK missing out and so on. Well, I agree at first blush but the UK staff have done a pretty good job at evaluating talent and determining who fits in their system, etc. I hope the kid succeeds but I am OK with UK passing.

What about that big bruising RB they had about 5 years back? I think his name was Pollard?

Thomas Varney from Belfry is a good player.

Quarterback is a question mark. They need whoever fills the position to be a solid/steady hand. From what I have heard, lack of size across the board may be a problem. Line of scrimmage play is critical in football and maybe even more so with Belfry's style of play. The good news is there is a lot of quality kids who are athletic and can run. Basically the entire secondary returns intact and those kids were a good unit last year. Linebacker also returns some experience but someone will have to become the tackling machine that Dotson was. I am looking forward to seeing how Coach Mickey and Coach Haywood utilize their skill guys. You can pencil in T. Varney at tailback, but outside of that who knows where the other positions will go? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new schedule.

You guys excited about the game? Long trip, but I think you will be satisfied with the opponent.

I just look forward to seeing the Deathstar unleashed against the Blackcats in week 0.

I just want to express my gratitude and pleasure with the coaching staff, administration, and anyone who was involved in putting together Belfry's schedule for this upcoming football season. Not only do I think the playing the likes of Whitley Co. (who is up), LCC, and Ashland help prepare the young Pirates for the eventual tough fights deep in the playoffs, but it also makes for some exciting and intriguing games for the fanbase! Throw in games against Prestonsburg, Pikeville, Johnson Central, and district rival Sheldon Clark and you get a solid/challenging schedule. Again, kudos to anyone who had a part in the process!

Belfry Thomas Varney - RB 5'9" 165 lbs Thomas will be Belfry's best player this upcoming season. Obviously he doesn't have college size but he is a really good high school tailback. I believe he had big games against Johnson Central and Breathitt Co. last season, which happened to be Belfry's best competition. THANKFULLY (YEAH!) Belfry will be playing a significantly improved schedule in 09'! Around week 7 next year teams like - Prestonsburg, Boyd Co., Ashland, Letcher Co. Central, Pikeville, and Whitley Co. can speak to his ability.

VERY VERY nice Watusi! I love the addition of Whitley Co. That one was not expected, but I like it! MUCH improved non-district schedule. The Pirates will be better for it come playoff time.

If UK can't get any traction with some of the DB targets they are currently looking at, does anyone think Brooks offers Adams at the last minute?

Congrats to the young man. I have to say however, it kinda stinks that the Maxpreps.com's write up on Mr. Collinsworth leads off with the following: "Son of former Bengals’ wide receiver Cris Collinsworth, Austin was a first team All-State selection at wide receiver a year after being a second team All-State selection at defensive back." Certainly being the son of Chris Collinsworth doesn't hurt his status.

It certainly does seem the program is going in the wrong direction. Does the community come out in force and support the team?

Belfry will need to find a power back and a couple lineman. Also need a Soph QB to step up bigtime in order to contend on the level they have been...

I have always hated the "we were WAY better but didn't have our best game" argument. When I played baseball, my pops said the same thing; "Had we not made 4 errors, we would have won." I always countered, "but we DID make 4 errors." Todays game was close. Bottom line.

Sounds like Central is playing almost everyone in the box. Breathitt might will need to throw the ball in this game IMO.

LOL. I was just listening to the pregame coverage by KHSAA. Holcolmb referred to Mr. Cobble as (Cobbler) and the announcer then shot back with "that was Coach Halcolm) LOL Gonna be a great game IMO

Good effort by Hazard (the obvious underdog) against the titan Beechwood. In all fairness to the announcers, they were probably pleased to have a REAL game to call. I think the predicitions will bear that MOST people did not expect such a good game
