Consider these 2 examples as the flawed nature of the RPI. A brutal absurdity. Oldham County receives a .62 for defeating a mediocre 3A DeSales squad St. X receives a .51 for losing by 2 points to an undefeated Cincinnati Elder team that is Top 5 or Top 10 in Ohio big boy football. If your RPI “system” allows this, it is a lousy system with zero credibility.

Goodin plays, Collins wins. Goodin out, NL wins. Simple formula.

X better hope M Harben stays healthy all year.

I will jump in with some of the absurdity in 6A -Oldham County is ahead of St. X even though 5 of Oldham’s 6 opponents are in lesser classes -McCracken (they are bad) is ranked #11 having played multiple 2A and 3A schools and NO 6A schools -Manual is ahead of Trinity after playing 3 lower class schools of their 6 games. Trinity is 5-1 and has ONLY played FD, Carmel, Moeller, Male and St. X Don't worry, nothing to see here.

The KHSAA needed these extra few morning hours to correct the “out of state punishment”, get rid of the “play down in class two games for free” and add in a true “strength of schedule” component. Or not.

FD is a bit better on offense and lots better on defense. FD 24 - Male 10.

And if folks think that is unreasonable, ask anyone that followed CAL PREPS for years who knew that their analysis and projections were true and accurate even after 2 or 3 weeks into the season.

Because a system that has a solid and common sense foundation of metrics would not need 60% of the regular season to be completed before the data is published.

If you had to publish the KHSAA Football RPI, you would also avoid, delay and procrastinate as long as possible. There are major flaws in it and it unfortunately impacts quite a bit in the post season rounds 3 and 4 They have a crummy RPI system and they know it.

Other than Male, Ballard and Manual, JCPS varsity football is “off the rails” (Atherton is having what is likely a two year bloom before another downturn). 1A KCD wins convincingly over 6A Butler.

South has faced a more difficult schedule so far. I expect them to win this game comfortably.

BG has three criteria for trying to stay in this game. Without these things happening, CAL puts a ?‍♂️⏰ on them. 1. BG must NOT turn the ball over. 2. BG must force at least 2 CAL turnovers 3. BG must have one big time play via special teams.

The Louisville schools will go 1-3 vs these out of town teams. CAL being the only Louisville winner.

I am sure neither school is interested in “breaking even” from this game. The gate proceeds from this game (shared between the schools) are an important piece of the operating budget for each school.

Good test for both teams. How does Boyle handle an athletic and aggressive Bruin defense? Can Ballard deliver 4 quarters of productive offense vs a well coached Boyle defense?

Strong analysis here. Keep in mind a couple of things: 1. Coach Cobb and his staff have a PROVEN track record for bringing their team along for continued improvement and peaking in the post season, regardless of any particular win or loss in the regular season. 2. Having followed this rivalry across multiple sports for the last 30 years, I can say with confidence that one never truly can predict the outcome of any one game between these schools, regardless of which team might be “favored”. 3. I am glad the schools continue to CHOOSE NOT to live stream this game. Fans of high school football, St. X, Trinity, or any other school, should do themselves a favor and attend this game in person, at least once. And get there for the pregame, halftime and post game activities as well, regardless of the winner.

Let the comedy show begin. St. X ranked #8 in state. Trinity #9 in state. Compare and contrast the records and the schedules of these teams vs all other schools in the Top 10.

DeSales had many more sophomores playing in this game. Trinity had only a few sophomores playing. All 3 QBs that played in this game for the Rocks were freshman.

JV Rocks get the road win on Monday evening. Freshman travel to St. X on Thursday.

Come on up to Ballard on Friday night and support the kids and coaches in person. High school sports = butts in seats. And, JCPS could use the gate revenue.
