  1. Isn't part of the conditioning component to be able to perform when you are tired. If you practice when you are tired, eventually it becomes second nature and you tend to make less mistakes when you are fatigued in the game. That being said, I haven't played or had any kids play football in 25 years so it has been awhile. But I thought this was the reason the military does all the things they do, to make it easier come battle time.
  2. Nice research. Thanks for the info.
  3. I took a picture of the article but the file is too big on my phone. I'll try to edit later but hopefully the headline is small enough.
  4. I graduated in the same class as Brian and attended the banquet with him. Maybe it was a different award or run by somebody different, but he definitely won a "That's my boy award." I have the newspaper article from a scrapbook. I'll see if I can dig it up.
  5. So, is the answer to this one, Brian won the Ohio one and they named the Kentucky one after him in 1992?
  6. Not sure if I posted this one here before but one of my easy favorite ones: Buffalo Chicken sliders Bag of frozen chicken 16 oz bottle of wing sauce Garlic Some butter Packet of ranch dressing mix Cook on low 4-5 hours. Take chicken out and shred it and return to slow cooker for an hour to let everything soak in. Serve on a hoagie roll with some blue cheese or ranch. One of my favorites.
  7. So why did they go out for the basketball team at all? I would think these players knew how they were compared to the other players. If they were going to quit if they didn't get playing time, they should have never went out for the team. But, I guess the kids and their parents have to do what they feel is best for themselves. Maybe there is more to this than what we see. Coaches could have given them their blessing and everyone is happy.
  8. I have no idea about getting a raw deal for either coach, but Eicher had one playoff game win in 4 years. That's why they got rid of him. I believe he is the only coach before and since to not have won a state championship. He was a very nice guy, he was not a great Highlands coach. The coach that replaced him won state in his second year with a terrible team by all accounts.
  9. I assume the law clerk Ramler will no longer be working as a law clerk for anyone in the future.
  10. Right or wrong reasons, that's exactly what he did in this situation.
  11. Ahh, I missed them with the change of classes. Thanks
  12. I was looking to see who were the Buffalo Bills of Kentucky high school football. If I looked at it right, many teams have lost two in a row but only three teams have lost 3 in a row: Newport Catholic 13/14/15 Belfry 10/11/12 Paducah Tighlman 87/88/89
  13. Anyone know how many Paducah Tighlman has? I know they had 3 in a row in 87/88/89 against Cov Cath twice and Highlands once. And then again to Highlands in 92. That was 4 in 6 years.
  14. Highlands has 6 runner up finishes also. I would think Paducah Tilghman and Mayfield would be up there also.
  15. Article from G. Michael Graham earlier in the week regarding Highlands. FORT THOMAS MATTERS: Football Scheduling Nightmare At this point of the season, Brian Weinrich said the majority of football teams across the country have their schedules filled for 2017. The Highlands Bluebirds were no different until a matter of days ago. Class 5A, District 5 opponent Grant County asked for and received permission from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association to drop out of district play for the next two years also leaving Dixie Heights and Covington Catholic without 10th games for the next two seasons. Weinrich even talked with Dixie Heights Head Coach Dave Brossart and Covington Catholic Head Coach Eddie Eviston about the situation Monday. Highlands and CovCath have listed their respective openings on the KHSAA web site. "Teams are being contacted from all over the place just trying to find a 10th game," Weinrich said. "We're all scrambling trying to figure out how it's going to work. We're contacting existing teams on the schedule to see if we could move them to different weeks. It's really frustrating now trying to find that 10th game." When teams do not participate in district play, they are not eligible for postseason play. It's not uncommon for teams to not participate in district play in order to build their program. Clinton County, McCreary Central and Phelps did not play in district action these past two years. Highlands spent the 2011 through 2014 seasons in Class 4A. The final alignment had Pendleton County in the same district with the Bluebirds, CovCath and Harrison County. The Wildcats chose to drop out of district play for the 2013 and 2014 seasons before entering into Class 3A in 2015. Highlands beat Pendleton County, 79-0 in 2011 and 70-0 in 2012. Grant County looked at options before the final alignment a couple years ago. But then Braves Head Coach Kevin Siple and the administration did not want to teach the kids to run when the going got tough so Grant County played in district action the last two years. Opponents outscored the Braves, 145-7 this past season and 131-51 in 2015. Grant County lost just 28-20 to Dixie Heights in 2015 and nearly knocked off Madison Southern losing just 28-27 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs that year. But the Braves lost 51-7 to eventual Region 2 champion Louisville Fern Creek in the first round of the playoffs this year. Highlands has openings for Week 6 (Sept. 29) or Week 9 (Oct. 20) for next season. The Bluebirds were to play the Braves on Oct. 20. In Northern Kentucky outside Class 5A, Newport High, Newport Central Catholic and Ryle also have openings. But while Ryle also has an opening on Sept, 29, the Raiders are already on the schedule for the next two years. Highlands and Ryle have played each other twice during the season in the past. In Kentucky, Class 1A schools, Frankfort and Fairview have openings on Sept. 29. Mount Healthy (Ohio) located near Cincinnati also has an opening and is looking for a two-year contract. Aside from that, Weinrich said the 2017 schedule will look about the same as the last two years. The only other difference is Lexington Catholic will take the place of Louisville St. Xavier.
  16. Wear them both. Go back to the 80's with the double popped collar.
  17. Except no other venue bid on it or wanted it so there's that excuse.
  18. Correct, but I wouldn't think you would have done it before Friday not knowing if your team was going to win and also knowing there was still a possibility of WKU hosting a playoff game.
  19. A lot of hotels offer a very good discount online if you take the non-refundable option. The only time I use it is if I know for sure nothing is going to change. Also, I think if you go through Priceline or something similar, the hotels are non-refundable.
  20. Maybe ESPN could broadcast the Friday night game for practice since they will be all set up.
  21. When was last time Mayfield didn't practice on Thanksgiving. I was thinking of the Highlands people, as this year, is the first time, I believe, since 2006 they haven't practiced on Thanksgiving. A lot people not sure what to do on Thanksgiving.
  22. Is this like teach a man to fish?
  23. And I sure wouldn't let them in the political forum if they want to learn to cope with a loss or be a gracious winner.
