Kentucky 73 Mississippi State 64

Had Jones gone down, I'm certain it would have been an f2. However, the ref saw that Jones was unhurt, after he called the T, and made his determination on severity from there.

I HATE this about the state of officiating. Fouls are only called based on the outcome, not if there was an actual foul. The Darius 3 was a perfect example. No call until it was clear the shot was missed.

A foul is a foul is a foul. It doesn't matter if the shot goes in, and it doesn't matter if Jones is actually hurt. Should you not be tossed if you take a swing at someone, but they react fast enough to get out of the way?

And that whole sequence was ridiculous anyway. First, he hung on the rim (which Davis had already been T'ed up for), then he made a show complaining to the official (which Teague had already been T'ed up for), then he chased Jones down and tried to trip him from behind.

Flagrant 1 carries a penalty of two shots and the ball (the old intentional foul).

Flagrant 2 is two shots, the ball and ejection of the offender. (the old flagrant foul with intent to injure).

What Malcom White did to Anthony Davis, in the LSU game, was a Flagrant 2.

So the refs put the wrong guy on the line twice last night... Flagrant 1 jones should have shot free throws instead of Davis... After timeout Towards end of game... Davis should have shot instead of MKG... Shades of Travis Ford at LSU

I think that it was a matter of MSU playing up to their potential and beyond (see: out of their minds) than anything UK did. UK stepped up the second half, MSU came back down to Earth, and the rest is history. Again, I've said it since they won heading into the North Carolina game. This is my favorite UK team of all time. They are the most unselfish group, best defending group, and "we just get it" group. They may not have as much depth and talent as '96, but they play team basketball.

I know everyone has their own opinion, and how most people let the current moment forget about the past. However the 96-98 teams were teams who were talented, unselfish, and played good defense. Not to mention they got it done in the tournament. All the teams had all the things you mentioned and got it done when it counted. If this team does get upset in the tournament, then it is hard to say they were better at thsoe thigns than those teams. it is still to early to say they best of any UK team of all time at thsoe things. Even the 2003 team probably had more of those things because they did great by doing those things and with less talent. Yet they fell short obviously. So how they do in the tournament will determine where this team ranks for me, because I do love all the things you mentioned about this team too! Just have to do even more for me to like them as best ever, and best ever at those things.

That's right

What did Teague do to get a T and was it the right call? I didnt see what he did to get one.

Clapped his hand and shook his head disagreeing with a foul call. Unless he used some magic words (possible) then it wasn't deserved IMO. Especially considering that later in the game Moultrie hung on the rim, complained demonstrably, and then had to kick Terrance Jones before he was T'ed up.

My favorite sequence of the game was the Davis save, passing to MKG who then proceeds to take it to the hoop, miss, grab the board and make the bucket.

That was the dagger. I love this teams never give up attitude.

He didn't say anything about them being the best ever, just his favorite. Two totally different things.

Yes he did, what else would you consider saying "most unsefish, best defending group, and we just get it group he has seen". I know he didnt say they were the best team of all time, but the best ever UK team at doing those things, and that is what I said in the post. The team is great at those things no doubt, however its easy to only think in the moment, and I was just pointing out there has been other UK teams who have done the same thing but also took it to the Big Dance. We don't know how this team will do yet, so thats why I can't say they are the best UK team even at those things yet until we see how they do with those things in the Big Dance.

I've noticed your first point a lot this year. It really stood out in the Ohio State/Michigan game the other night. There were 2 shots during that game that hung or rolled around the rim and the call came after it came out of the cylinder. That makes no sense to me. BTW, that game goes down as one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen, and I had no dog in that fight so the winner made no difference to me.

That isn't the same thing as saying it is the best UK team of all time. He even mentioned the 96 team in his comparison and said that they might be more talented. You are putting words in his mouth and making assumptions. Mexitucky has been around long enough to compare more than just the 96 team. Favorite does not equal best, he clearly said favorite, not best.

I'm not letting the current do anything to my past. My favorite team before this one was the '92 team. I loved the '93 team, the '95 team, and the '03 team. The past Calipari teams were fun to watch, but I never got a feel like I was watching something special. '92 was something special and so is this team. Now, of course, the 96-98 teams were exceptional, and better than the current team. However, they were expected to be great, were upper classmen led, and really the only surprise w/them was the loss to Arizona and the comback against Duke. Other than that, I felt pretty entitled w/ them as a fan, and for that, probably didn't appreciate them. Heck, the '96 team is the #2 team of all time according to some experts. I just really love this team b/c you have a group of kids that are led by the energy of two young guys that truly get it. It's an intangible feel thing, but this team is my favorite. Maybe it is the unexpected success and their ability to play good defense all of the time...I don't know.
