February 22, 201214 yr I would have passed on the T on Davis as IMO he was gaining his balance. There is no wording requirement that a player be directly under him to pass on the T. On the trip, in high school I would have tossed him. Not sure exactly what the wording is in college for a Flagrant 1 vs 2.
February 22, 201214 yr I am not sure I have seen a worse execution than the first 10 minutes last night from UK. Davis took the words of Cal literally when he gave him the green light to shoot from long range. That green light really means yellow and it best be in the flow of the offense. Jones was weird like 80% of the time he plays; Teague was flustered (though he actually had decent numbers no more than he played); and Wiltjer went down like Nancy Kerrigan. The big adjustments came putting MKG on Bost defensively, and on offense inverting to have Miller and MKG on the post in iso situations. MKG was not to be denied. I think he has all the tools to be an NFL Pro Bowl TE, but we will see him on the hardwood through his life Is there a more disappointing talent in the country than Renardo Sydney? That guy was sweating like nothing I have ever seen just two minutes in to the game.

I completely agree with you Clizzy. Davis is flying towards the rim with a ton of momentum. We've all seen a few times when a player lets go of the rim right away and his momentum causes him to fly off the rim really awkwardly and land on his back, neck, head, etc. I feel like by hanging on the rim, he was preventing himself for doing that. I know the officials can't take it into account, but Davis is one of the last players to be "in your face", trash talking, and arrogant. Now if it were TJ on the other had...haha!
February 22, 201214 yr I'm not going to be the first to start posting them (but I might jump in if someone else does haha) but there were some pretty solid one-liners about Renardo Sidney on Twitter last night. Renardo Sydney's hasn't been this impressive since his performance in the film Precious.

Sort of my thoughts to. I believe it was more of how it looked. Davis is kind of lanky and akward anyways so it just looked strange to see his feet rise that high up. I think he got the benefit of the doubt after the call, because if I remember Mississippi State was whistled just after for a questionable offensive foul given how the game had been called. Refs too get caught up in the emotion of the game and hostile environment.
February 22, 201214 yr This team goes only as far as MKG and Miller take them, only kids on the team who can get the tough bucket when you have to have it.

The two questionable calls on Mississippi State immediately following the technical call on Davis told me all I needed to know about that being a bad call.
February 22, 201214 yr The two questionable calls on Mississippi State immediately following the technical call on Davis told me all I needed to know about that being a bad call. Yep. The officiating was not great, but pretty neutral up until that T on Davis. It was crap from then on.
February 22, 201214 yr Exactly what they needed. Miller came up huge. Scoreless for 32 minutes & then gets 12 big ones in the final 8 minutes. That last 3 he hit was from way downtown. Betting line was 10. Unbelievable how good the handicappers are. Kidd-Gilchrist changed the game with his defense on Bost. Agree on both. Vegas is ridiculous, as is MKG. He shut Bost down the 2nd half. I am not sure I have seen a worse execution than the first 10 minutes last night from UK. Very much agree. Settling for way too many outside shots. I would have passed on the T on Davis as IMO he was gaining his balance. There is no wording requirement that a player be directly under him to pass on the T. I thought the T on Davis was a bogus call. I'd rather him "hang" & get T'd up then release & land on his tailbone. I thought the officiating was atrocious last night. I hate when TV Teddy waits to see if the bucket is good before he calls a foul. The foul when Miller shot the 3 was indeed a foul, but he waited until seeing what happened with the shot before making a call. That was a very critical turning point in the game too. Also, Davis gets fouled on a rebound & there's a TV timeout. As the teams come out of the timeout & gather at the FT line, Dee Bost tells the ref that MKG was the one that got fouled instead of Davis & the refs put MKG on the line. Davis was clearly the one that got fouled on that play, even though MKG ended up hitting both FT tosses. On another play (maybe the one that lead to the Moultrie "T"?) Davis clearly fouled a State player going for the shot & there was no call. Guys in stripes were just horrific IMO. For UK, the 2nd half play was much closer to what we've been accustomed to seeing lately. As others have said, Miller & MKG were huge down the stretch. I thought Jones did some nice things in the 2nd half too. Teague struggled & the team was better when he wasn't on the floor, but we need him playing well to be an elite team IMO. State needed to look more to Moultrie in the paint, especially after Hood went out with the injury. He was 6-10 from the floor. Sidney yip-yapped after making that first shot & proceeded to do absolutely nothing the rest of the way. As someone else commented, he's a complete waste of talent.
February 22, 201214 yr Miller and MKG definately were the go to guys down the stretch... but I was very impressed with how Lamb played at the point. IMO those were his first extended minutes in a pressure situation and he handled it very well. I thought he played the pick and roll well and found the open man (Miller) on the wing. I thought there were a couple of really good play calls by Cal that got MKG the ball on the block. With Lamb at the point, it made all of MSU defenders stay honest and opened up the inside a bit more as well. This could be huge against a team like Syracuse down the road.
February 22, 201214 yr UK got very few, if any, alley-oop dunks. Davis must have thought he was Louie Dampier--with all his long shots. But..... the Cats found other ways to score/win. They have a lot of different arrows in their quiver. As Cal implied, this team likes to win. That is what is most impressive to me.
February 22, 201214 yr I agree with everyone about Teague's play. But let's not forget about the two 3's that he hit in the first half. They would have had a much bigger deficit to climb out if it wasn't for him in the first half.
