February 21, 201214 yr The venom directed toward Bush & Obama has been pretty equal from my perspective. Their wives, however, are an entirely different matter. Which was the topic of this thread, as I recall.
February 21, 201214 yr The bolded is simply untrue. I would agree. Just short of 60 million Americans voted for the GOP in the 2008 Presidential election. Rush & Hannity do not have that many people listening. Does Palin even have a presence in the media other than as a guest on somebody's show. Even if you could get accurate listener figurers for these show, not all would even be fans. Just like the research that was done with Howard Stern back in the day that showed the people who hated the show would tend to listen for substantially longer periods of time than his fans would, just because they wanted to know how he was going to offend them next.
February 21, 201214 yr The bolded is simply untrue. Fair enough. But the bottom line is it is a significant enough number that they are able to sway the dialogue of the GOP in a big way. And those listeners make up a large enough bloc of voters that GOP politicians can't get away with dismissing them as "nutjobs." List of most listened-to radio programs Granted, Wikipedia ain't always the best source, but in this case they are citing numbers from Arbitron, which is the industry standard for tracking radio listenership. The Howard Stern example doesn't really apply, because we're talking about two different types of radio show. Stern doesn't do politics. And as we all know, people who listen to the radio (or watch TV) for their political information are doing it to have their own opinions validated. In other words, they aren't listening to be offended, but to be assuaged. Rush has 15+ million daily; Hannity has 14+ million daily. I think Michael Moore, when he puts out one of his "documentaries" may reach an audience of a million (I'm probably giving him too much credit here) in a one-time shot every couple years or so. To suggest he has the impact on the policy of the Democratic Party that Rush/Hannity has on the GOP is just plain silly.
February 21, 201214 yr Which was the topic of this thread, as I recall. I'm with Habib in that I don't really know how First Ladies were treated in the past. You have anything to offer on that, to help put it in perspective?
February 21, 201214 yr Author I have some prime swampland in Arizona for sale if you're interested. How much.
February 21, 201214 yr Her comments about being proud of America for the first time in her adult life is the reason for most people's ire, right or wrong. That's the only difference I see in her from other first ladies.
February 21, 201214 yr Her comments about being proud of America for the first time in her adult life is the reason for most people's ire, right or wrong. That's the only difference I see in her from other first ladies. That's the one I was trying to think of earlier. Even though I don't care either way, that wasn't a smart thing for her to say. The harping that people do about vacations & the first family is way overboard. There is no more pressure-packed house than the big white one on Pennsylvania Avenue. I think time away is a good thing.
February 21, 201214 yr Author It is getting close to Spring, I guess a trip to Paris in the Spring is coming up. Here is what she said: “People in this country are ready for change and hungry for a different kind of politics and … for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.”

You don't like that Mrs. Obama has not always been proud of our country. Point made.
February 21, 201214 yr Author We get it. You don't like that Mrs. Obama has not always been proud of our country. Point made. I'm glad you get it, because the exact quote wasn't listed so I just wanted the whole quote to be on here. I'm glad you got it now.
February 21, 201214 yr I've not always been proud of my country and some of the things we've done....So I guess that makes me anti-American or a terrible person too. :idunno: Oh well, I think I'll survive.

You and her can have a little conversation about how bad America has treated you all.
February 21, 201214 yr Maybe you can go vacation with her next time and spend some more of that hard earned taxpayer dollar with her. You and her can have a little conversation about how bad America has treated you all. You could travel along and tell them how they should violate the concept of capitalism and put a ceiling on how much a company can make keeping with the "how bad America has treated you all" thinking.
