February 21, 201214 yr SNL hasn't been funny in a very very long time, and Akroyd and Belushi are vastly overrated. I lump Newt Gingrich into the moron category as well, so you'll get no argument from me there. Now you're just bringing your bullheadedness from the UK hoops threads over here and disagreeing to be disagreeing. Calling Newt Gingrich or Al Franken a moron is just plain silly. Both are extremely intelligent people. Doesn't mean extremely intelligent people are immune from doing dumb things on occasion. And if you don't find SNL's golden era to be funny, there's no hope for you. You must be incapable of humor, and I find that to be very sad.
February 21, 201214 yr If it is already paid for then who cares? That money is going to be set aside for vacation use regardless. May as well use it. All jobs.......ALL JOBS....come with benefits. I would hope that being the leader of the free world has some pretty good perks and benefits as well. That money does not have to be set aside for vacation use. I agree that the POTUS and their family deserves some good perks and benefits. But, as their employers it's more than ok for us to question what is too much. I care -- because I will always care about government expenditures -- I'm not doing my job if I don't. Your statement about all jobs having benefits is FAR from the truth. Go grab any of the numerous jobs in the construction field and you will find many (most) without any benefits. With more thought I'm sure I can come up with other jobs without benefits.
February 21, 201214 yr Now you're just bringing your bullheadedness from the UK hoops threads over here and disagreeing to be disagreeing. What can I say, I wanted to give you a dose of your own medicine.
February 21, 201214 yr How do you explain Santorum's popularity then? Habib would say (I think) it's because he's the last non-Romney candidate. I'm inclined to agree with him.
February 21, 201214 yr Habib would say (I think) it's because he's the last non-Romney candidate. I'm inclined to agree with him....which would be because Rush, Hannity, and like-minded folks have taken over the GOP and necessitated the need for a non-Romney candidate.

With more thought I'm sure I can come up with other jobs without benefits. I didn't say the money HAD to be set aside. I said it IS set aside. Are you telling me that if your job set aside money for vacation use that you wouldn't use it? I would. Without thinking twice. I'd have my vacation allotment planned out yearly. With no concern of anything else except whether I need to print my boarding pass or do I just show up with my passport. Most jobs have benefits. I have never worked a job in my life(from fast food at 16 to my factory job now) that didn't have benefits in some shape form or fashion.
February 21, 201214 yr In the overall scheme of things, the President's job is a 24/7 job. I would expect that the compensation package be commensurate with that level of on-the-job duty. Some professions are heavily compensated financially...either via salary or a combination of salary/stock/bonuses/etc. The POTUS job doesn't carry an inordinate salary, so the vacation is what I'd put down to "benefits package".
February 21, 201214 yr http://www.financialjesus.com/interesting-economics/how-much-money-does-the-president-make/Something interesting.Excuse the link format...I seem to have lost my editing buttons. :cry:RetirementAfter a president leaves office he gets a life time pension. Today the pension is set to the level of the current administration’s cabinet secretaries or 191,300 dollars per year.Additionally the ex presidents get travel accounts and free mailing privileges. One could argue that Clinton, Bush, Bush, etc all are taking vacations on our dime as well.
February 21, 201214 yr I can't imagine the President ever truly having a 'vacation'. Another reason why their travel is much ado about nothing, IMO.
February 21, 201214 yr I'm glad you get it, because the exact quote wasn't listed so I just wanted the whole quote to be on here. I'm glad you got it now. It's too bad that you don't quote everything she says, as opposed to putting your own spin and interpretation on it.
February 21, 201214 yr I'd also like to point out that this past weekend was President's weekend. Resort wide, we were sold out on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night with the highest revenue weekend of a 12 week period. The casino recorded record drops as well. Someone's still taking trips...at least 12 or 1300 this last weekend where I work.
February 21, 201214 yr Nothing against our wonderful First Lady, but we did not need to see her on an episode of ICarly! :lol:You watch ICarly?!!!

February 21, 201214 yr Definitely didn't help. I knew what she meant, but she could have worded it a little better. I still feel people would, and have found a lot of other unfounded reasons to criticize her. Most of it in my belief stems from this:I agree, but her comment (at least the way she worded it) was just the fuel for the fire that people that fit Clyde's description needed.
February 21, 201214 yr You better not become the First Lady. Mountainref will start a thread about you when you go on a vacation.:laugh:
