Are you not reading all the posts in this thread? I already said where the eye witness stands with me. After the initial investigation into Sandusky in what....1999....how many kids were molested at Penn State by Sandusky? That's number Paterno is responsible for in my eyes. He should have done more. Like I said AT THE VERY LEAST they could have disassociated themselves from Sandusky and they chose not to. I just don't see how that's defensible. It's sick really. It's sick.

I really believe people are neglecting his place in the Penn State institution. Paterno was as "superior" as it got.
January 22, 201214 yr Being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer is about a six month life expectancy. Exactly. I am hearing a lot of the "he died of a broken heart" mantra, but I too lost someone to lung cancer. My uncle was diagnosed around Thanksgiving and died May 30th. In Paterno's case, it probably was exasperated by the Sandusky issue.
January 22, 201214 yr As a guy so out of touch with reality that he said he didn't know a man could rape a child. Additionally as a person so concerned about football that in the biggest moment of his life he failed to protect the kids that needed his help the most. This is exactly how I remember him as well. And yes, his supporters make me ill also. Child molester enabler is his legacy. For me I definitely can understand why you all feel that way. Im not exactly sure what or how I wil remember him yet. He has done A LOT of great things in his long life, and helped a lot of people. So part of me feels like it is wrong to act like he was a bad person, because of what he did not do especially since he was not the one who did it or saw it. However as others have said with as much power as he has, he should have done more. I do think its wrong for people to say what they would have done. Its easy to think what you would do after the fact, and when you were not in the situation. I try to think about it if I was in his exact situation. From what I have heard Sandusky and him were suppose to be close friends. So we would need to think about it, as if it was one of our close friends. If we were told and key word being told that one of our close friends did something like that, or just anything really bad that needs to have someone locked up for a long time would we go straight to the police? Remember most likely if they are a close friend you probably wouldn't think they were capable of doing something like that. So would you go turn your friend in right away based on what someone tells you, even though that person who says they saw it has not gone to the police theirselves? It would create some doubt if that person who saw it, has now waited a day and still not gone to the police. I think the majority of people would not go straight to the police in that case if it is about a close friend and the person who says they saw won't report it. We need to look at it like if we were in that situation ourselves IMO. I probably would have told my higher ups just like he did, and say what I was told. But then right after that I would talk to my friend and call them out on what I heard, and see how they respond to that. If they admit it or if I even think they are lying, then I go straight to the police. JoePa definitely could have told the police himself, however it is not that easy sometimes especially when its a friend. McQuery himself should have told because he saw it, then the higher ups once they were told shoud have told. Since they would not have been as personally invovled as JoePa was since it was his friend. There is so many people here who could have done something, and failed miserably. JoePa, the higher ups, and Mcquery should have all sat down together and discussed it and went to the police together. Especially since nothing came of it. It's a terrible situation, especially for the kids involved. I know I made it sound like I was defending JoePa, because he could have still went to the police once he realized his higherups were not going to do anything. I just trying to think of what it would be like in that situation, and how honestly if you think like that. A lot of people might not have went straight to the police either right after being told that too about a friend.

January 22, 201214 yr Quite simply that he didn't tell the Police isn't as big of an issue to me as him allowing Sandusky around countless numbers of kids after that and being around Penn St any longer. Even more disturbing is him admitting he wishes he would have done more and he didn't know a man could rape a child.

I would double check my friendship pretty closely and I wouldn't turn a blind eye to him continuing to be around other kids. To think Paterno didn't hear about the original incident is crazy too.

January 22, 201214 yr Racist people make this world a sad place. If I had the power of Paterno I would have done so much more. So much more. Had that been my kid I would have killed Paterno myself a longtime ago. Who was being racist?

January 22, 201214 yr I say died of a broken heart from the way he was treated by the board of trustees, shame they wouldn't let someone retire the way he deserved too. I thought he had cancer though? Sad story all around.
