He will be remembered as a tragically flawed man. A great head football coach - one of the best of all time - but through old age, being out-of-touch, elevated to near God-like status in his own little world, or a combination of these and other factors; a man who ultimately should have done more and will be measured by more than wins and losses.

 

A fair assessment. The only thing I would add is his generosity in contributing to academics and the academic success he expected from his players.

He made a mistake and said so. We all agreed it was a real sorry way to respond to this Child Molester. He lost his job because of this decision and I agreed with the University, but, BUT do we not remember the good things he did do? Like all of us we will be judged for our actions and when Children are involved.

 

Boy I hate to be one of those people. Its just sad that he will be more rememebered for this than what could have been. He was the head man and lots of control and made a wrong decision that hurt many more young men. He could have stopped this monster, and thats really sad.

 

I feel for his family, and still think we should pray for them.

I respect your opinion, but 98% of people affiliated with college football will remember him for his accomplishments on the field. Im not saying that is right or wrong but that is certainly how I will remember him.

If I had the power of Paterno I would have done so much more. So much more. Had that been my kid I would have killed Paterno myself a longtime ago.

That is just absurd..... you do know it was Jerry Sandusky who molested the kids right? Not Joe Paterno. And don't pull the I would have card because you didn't have that opportunity so it really doesn't matter.

Rest in peace Coach Paterno. Crazy how all of this started with him just after all the issues and losing his job. Can't help to wonder how much being fired and everything that came out about the program had to do with this. Such a shame, because his legacy is going to be remembered as the end by many people.

I don't know about all of that. Not sure how you can write the story of Joe Paterno and not think of or neglect the last 10 weeks.

It's very sad to me that in a clear story where humans and especially children are the story people want to remember him for football. Football is not important. Children are important. Pretty simple.

 

I saw something today that made sense. Was Joe Pa really sorry for what he did wrong or was he sorry that it all became public? He clearly covered this up for the sake of himself and the football program. He clearly said months later he didn't know a man could rape a boy. I just don't understand a world where people put football ahead of real life.

All I hear is your personal opinion and you're entitled to that but I don't agree with it. That's all it comes down to because we will never know the truth and now that he's gone I don't see a reason to further tear apart his reputation or hurt his family. With that said I hope Sandusky is behind bars as soon as possible, he's the real criminal here, he did wrong, others just failed to address it accordingly.
