Courier Journal All State Team

RP, Hatcher is a good player and a great talent. I just feel from watching him closely he is not what everyone says he is RIGHT now. He has the potential to be possibly the best DLineman to come from the state but he takes way too many plays off and is very inconsistent on the field. When he wants to he dominates and can beat any block. But that's when he wants to. He has a lot of growing up to I feel. I see what the colleges are saying and looking at in regards in to his athleticism and potential. But as a football player he isn't there yet.

As a Trinity fan that feels like I am able to remain fairly unbiased on things concerning Trinity, I feel like this post/assessment is pretty accurate.

If you make it to the finals, then "fairness" would mean you deserve at least one player to be voted on the 1st team offense or defense.......surely you could find one with no problem!!!

Why is that fair? It may be that a very average team with no great athletes got hot and started playing very well at playoff time and made the finals. That's happened before. Would it be fair to insist one of their players gets voted in over a great player on a not so great team? I can't think of any system that is "fair" to everyone.

That's a very fair assessment. He really could have been THE force and there were games I wondered where he was. In some games it could have been the opposing team focusing on him. In others, he seemed a bit lethargic at times.

This is dumb

This is dumb

What's dumb is giving individual awards for a team sport. What about giving a few players from a team the award but can't do it for other deserving players , because there might be too many from the same team. It's like horse maneur (for lack of the other word ) , spread it around and let everybody get some . Some players don't get voted to the allstate team because they have every SEC team in the country making offers and therefore, don't need the press. I know life isn't fair , but is the all state team even worth the paper that it's written on ?

Congrats to all the young men who made the all state teams , well deserved !!

Congrats to all the young men who should have been named to the all state team , but weren't for

various reasons.

Thanks to all the football players across the state , we appreciate your effort , all state or not !

Someone's relative didn't make the CJ all-state team.

That's funny . I have no relatives playing HS football at this time. Got some young ones down the road that will be Birds before you know it , can't wait !! Nice try ! :p

When was the last time a team got "hot" and made it to the finals without having a deserving player make first or second all state team??? That is "dumb"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Football is a team sport. Just because a team makes the final doesn't mean they have all state players. They may be an extremely well coached and conditioned team. They may have got lucky in a few games or could have been in a weak bracket. There are many reasons teams make the finals. It doesn't automatically qualify a player to be all state. The team's best player may have been a quarterback. Even though he is the best on their team, doesn't mean he is the best in the state.

I see where the All-BGP football team is referenced, can you direct me to the link if their is a new 2011 team.

No, what is dumb is thinking a team making the finals indicates that individual players deserve to be first or second team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Bluegrasspreps GreenIvy. There will be a thread and link to the All BGP Team as soon as it's released. It's coming soon, keep looking.

There is a flaw with the way every all-star/state team is picked. From the CJ all-state team, that flaw would be the fact that every coach has a ballot to send in. Coaches for example in Eastern Kentucky get word of a good player in the mountains. They have to plan their game around a certain kid from another team if they play against them. An example would be a fine young athlete named Robinson from Perry County Central who is a tackling machine. Word gets out and you get a large block voting for this impressive kid who has a large group of mountain coaches talking about him. Can this kid play on the level of say Highlands or Trinity? Who knows?....but he impressed a large group of coaches in a specific region who voted for him. Thus...he is voted first team all-state and in my humble opinion, deservingly so. You take Trinity who played several out of state teams. You know that as a team they are awesome. But, by playing out of state competition, they weren't exposed to as many in-state coaches (voters) who noticed names when filling out ballots. The best on the team get the votes, but, those that are very good that played in the shadows of the great players with the names (like Quick) don't get noticed. It's not a conspiracy to lock out players from the voting, (I read somewhere "Trinity overload" or something like that) but, there are just so many votes that coaches that played against these teams have to put down for the players they have been exposed to. You probably won't see many votes coming from Paducah for a kid from Highlands unless he has a name.

The AP voting has flaws in the fact that many of the kids picked for it are from populated areas where the newspapers are. Rural kids don't get much love from the AP unless they are from areas near voting newpapers such as Somerset or Harlan or they are "name" kids who are superstars. You get larger blocks of votes for kids in the cities in my opinion where the newspaper voters are located and exposed to the local kids.

Either way...there are going to be flaws no matter what. Just congratulate a kid that made a team whether it is the CJ team, the AP team, the BG Preps team, or the WYMT Mountain team. It's just an honor for a kid to be included if they are lucky enough and talented enough to catch the eye of some voters. Pat the kid on the back that didn't make a team, but, will be playing college ball next fall and continuing their career.

Still didn't answer the question?? Or can you??
