Courier Journal All State Team

Still not sure how players with key stats that are 2x, 3x some of the 1st team players get left off the entire list. Of course, stats for defense are not well kept at KHSAA.

Example: Alex Nash had a season total of 100 tackles, 66 solo and 25 tackles for loss playing against teams like Highlands, Boyle County (twice), Bowling Green and John Hardin - all of whom are well represented on the list (as they should be).

Stats alone should not be a determining factor. But it should used to validate or double check some of choices or omissions.

It looks to be a much better list, I feel that Carter New s/b mentioned as I pointed out when the first list came out. Glad others see that as well. Congrats to those listed!

I notice that Ryan Timmons from Franklin County made 1st team. Congrats to him!! In the AP team announced a couple of weeks ago he was nowhere to be found. Hope including him means this was is a better overall list......however they also list Zach Bowman from Franklin County as Honorable Mention at the QB position. Zach was backup QB this year to Logan Woodside.....

I probably should have completed my statement by saying they probably meant to have Logan Woodside named as Honorable mention rather than Zach Bowman. Logan had an excellent year as the starting QB for Franklin County. Zach, who was the starting QB the previous year, was a senior who also had an excellent year on the field. He battled for the starting QB position his Senior year, but when it didn't happen he made a strong contribution primarily on the defensive side and as backup QB. Got to give him a lot of credit.

There is no argument when it comes to THS's, Jason Hatchet. The best dl-lineman easily in the state and the Southeast and he gets 3rd team all-state. What a joke. There is no one in this state even in his league. Check out YouTube and you can see the proof. Please.

The same Jason Hatcher who makes only one play a game and is nonexistent the rest of the game? You must only watch highlights and not full game film. He is a great talent that is far from reaching his potential.

Dang those Louisville guys , overlooked another home town player . What's up at the "ville" ?

^ He really had a monster season this year. The coaches loved his motor. He sucked up many blockers, allowing the others to shine. I'd check your facts before posting that sort of material on here. Again, he had a great year.

Hatcher was 4th on the team in tackles, 2nd in TFL, 1st in sacks. Fumble recoveries, scored a TD. And he blocked a kick.

Congrats to all who made the team. My question to BGPers... does everyone think that the 1st team players selected would start on any team in the state? I do not think so, but then perhaps a team like this is to honor play within whatever system and level they play in.

Looks like nobody recognizes Belfry for their great season.....very sad and very unfair.....

I'm as big of a Belfry fan as they come, but the fact remains that this year's Pirates team was more of a sum of all their parts as opposed to a handful of standout players.

With that said, I find it very hard to believe there were 6 defensive backs better than Dixon this season.. let alone 9.

Demling's thoughts on the selections.

I agree with him on T's Hatcher only making 3rd team.

The all state committees and Demling doesn' t agree with you on Hatcher. I'm with Demling ! :D

For a team that is arguably #1 in the nation , and as you say , have 12 to 14 legit D1 players , the all state nominations are kind of slim.

CJ First team

Quick

Warburg

White

CJ Second team

Dawkins

Reynolds

AP First Team

Quick

White

2nd Team

Wright

I have nothing against Hatcher , Trinity or you , but the AS numbers don't add up . Can you explain why ?

Good question and interesting way to look at it. These teams are always subjective so I don't get too worked up about who is first team versus second team or even third team unless it is a blatantly obvious mistake. Where I speak up is when I see a player that arguably could be in the discussion for first or second team and they aren't even listed in honorable mention. The three I listed above (Nussbaum, New, Reese) aren't even mentioned on this team and they are no brainer first team players in N. Ky.

How do you recognize a TEAM when the awards are for INDIVIDUALS?

Who would you take off in place of someone from Belfry?

Wow, reading the posts in this thread you would think this list isn't any better than the AP list. Who would have thought:idunno:
