Courier Journal All State Team

Featured Replies

If you make it to the finals, then "fairness" would mean you deserve at least one player to be voted on the 1st team offense or defense.......surely you could find one with no problem!!!

Eastern Ky. and Southern Ky. players are always left out of state wide polls.....a true poll should include ALL of the state, not just heavily populated areas....perfect example is Belfry and Hazard this year.......politics and where you are from should be completely left out of the balloting!!!!

Covington Holy Cross won a state championship rather handily and has one 3rd team defensive player on the first three teams. Franklin Simpson played in the 4A finals and they have no players on the 3 teams listed. Anderson County and Scott County played in the 5A and 6A finals and despite being big schools had one 2nd teamer and one 3rd teamer. My point is you can't look at team success and say they deserve a first teamer. There are no conspiracies against a team or part of the state. Don't get too crazed about this because it is all subjective. There are many others just like you who believe they know a player who got slighted on this list and the same will be true for every all star team you see. In fact, I would guess there isn't one person who doesn't know of at least one player they feel was overlooked or listed lower than they should be ... on every all star team put out.

Still didn't answer the question?? Or can you??

VOR answered your question in his first sentence. Holy Cross got "hot" as the season went on and did not place a player on first or second team.

VOR made good sense with that statement....Thanks to VOR and not you!!

There is a flaw with the way every all-star/state team is picked.....It's just an honor for a kid to be included if they are lucky enough and talented enough to catch the eye of some voters. Pat the kid on the back that didn't make a team, but, will be playing college ball next fall and continuing their career.

Great post! Circumstances can play a big role in the attention a player receives or doesn't receive, i.e. a great QB or WR in a run offense, a great RB in a passing offense. There are players on the 1st and 2nd Teams that aren't/won't be big enough to play D1 ball, and likewise, players on the 3rd Teams and Honorable Mention lists that are being recruited by D1 programs because of their size, speed and potential. Some fans will be surprised when the dust settles, and others will be able to say "I told you so!"

I notice that Ryan Timmons from Franklin County made 1st team. Congrats to him!! In the AP team announced a couple of weeks ago he was nowhere to be found. Hope including him means this was is a better overall list......however they also list Zach Bowman from Franklin County as Honorable Mention at the QB position. Zach was backup QB this year to Logan Woodside.....

That's embarrassing for Courier-Journal. Logan Woodside played QB 90% of the time and is only a Junior. Would someone please put together a list of players based on research. What's wrong with verifying that the information is correct with the high school coaches before submitting it to print.

One player I didn't see on here was Max Nussbaum of Beechwood. I thought he was one of the more outstanding players I saw all season. He was a true warrior who deserved a spot somewhere on this list.

I agree! Very good football player!
