I was one of the voters and part of the problem with the process is that if a player isn't nominated then you can't vote for them and you can only nominate up to 15 players and those nominations are usually players from your specific area. Neither Mayfield's Jackson nor Timmons were nominated and having seen both of them play while covering the Beechwood-Mayfield game and Conner-Franklin County game they are sure-fire, absolute first-team guys. I'm not sure how the process can change for the better, but it certainly needs to change to make it a much more representative and inclusive process.

Ok, this is very interesting to me. How is Zeke Pike an Army All-American? He's not even named as hon mention on the all state team.

Ryan Timmons not being listed at any level, first, second, or honorable mention as an absolute crock of crap. I bet if you ask all oposing players, coaches, and fans of the teams he played they would say first team without a doubt.

I watched every Ashland football game and honestly, I didn't think Gregg was the best defensive end on his own team. However, I'll say congrats to all of those who were nominated. Maybe both Ashland defensive ends should have been first team all state.

Sportswriters and broadcasters (I believe) from around the state nominate and again can only nominate up to 15 players. Most nominate players from their area that they feel are deserving often with input from local coaches. Based on nominations (and lack of nominations from parts of the state) there were some noticeable gaps from different parts of the state. I didn't nominate Pike, because I thought there were 14 other players from Northern Kentucky who had better seasons (actually two of my nominations went to kickers - Joey Nussbaum and Evan Talkers) and he would have been the third QB I would have nominated. I nominated Towles, obviously, and Brady Hightchew, who quite frankly is a great high school football player, even though he doesn't project higher than Pike when it comes to being a college player. Good to see Bradley Way recognized. Some D1 teams are making a mistake with this kid because of his height.

 

Wofford (my prediction based on absolutely no insight) is getting a very good lineman.

Agree someone will be getting a kid that can play and not a project. No knock on OL on first team but would take Way anyday. Hopefully the Courier Journal will make that amends.

I guess this just shows how good a job Beatty did not having that good of talent.

Answered elsewhere, but much of D1 recruiting and Army All-American is based on physical skills and potential (i.e., forward looking). Assume AP and similar awards are based on accomplishments (i.e., backward looking).

Correct. Hightchew had a better high school season that Zeke but in no way would be considered a better college prospect.
