NKY puts out some nice kickers. Congrats to Nussbaum and Talkers.

 

I'm sure they are very good, and nothing against them. But, the top two kickers in the state are not on the First Team, the Second Team, nor are they are on the Honorable Mention List. Absolutely wrong.

RAM ... I haven't seen the two you mention so I can't compare. I understand you are lamenting the omission of those two and not necessarily where they should be on the list. However, I will say I have seen Nussbaum and Talkers and they have big time legs, in the top 5 of kickers I have seen in the past 20 years in N. Ky. They both put more kickoffs into the end zone than they didn't.

 

I saw all of Beechwood's games this year. Nussbaum probably had around 90 kickoffs. There were only perhaps 15 of those kickoffs that were not touchbacks into the end zone. Of those 15 that were returned, I can only recall maybe 5 returns that made it to the 20 because Nussbaum not only kicked it deep, he had great hang time. I would also guess Nussbaum had 30 or more kickoffs that not only went into the end zone with hang time, they landed right at or beyond the back line of the end zone. Nussbaum has the strongest leg I have seen in the last 20 years with the only kicker I can recall being close in leg strength being Popham from Cov Cath.

He obviously stinks at his job for not making sure he checks out Knox County.

 

Exactly. In case Hammerman doesn't realize it, Richard Skinner writes for the Cincinnati Enquirer and covers N. Ky high school sports. So that has where he has been; and Knox County is a far, far piece from N. Ky. Unless a N. Ky. school would have played Knox County during the season and Skinner would have covered that game, it's totally unrealistic to expect Skinner to have seen Canady play.

Heck, Rich is trying to figure out how to get to Owenton more often much less Knox County.

The perceived omissions and the reasons for them have been addressed above so I am not going to go there. I will just say congratulations to all those recognized.

 

Also, I see Patrick Towles listed at the bottom as Mr. Football. Is this the official Mr. Football award? Either way, congratulations to Patrick Towles on that award.

Obviously many would wonder why Vocke wasn't on the all-state list. I do not know if Rich had him as one of his 15 but try coming up with a limit of 15 players in NKY. Your list fills quickly and you leave off a bunch of good players. Only 2 NKY QBs got on the list and yet there were some really big numbers put up this year. Kyle Fuller didn't make the list. Blake Bir didn't make the list. Zeke didn't make the list. Barker didn't make the list. That's just QBs. Do that for each position and then try to come up with 15 total.

I was glad to see Paul Lampone make the list. I do feel Kyle Fuller should have been there over Hightchew. Eric Walker, in my opinion, is easily one of the best receivers in the state and he showed that at the Louisville/Ky At Large All-Star game

You have to first ask is he one of the top 15 overall players in his area since that's how the list is put together.

Cool. I think it makes the selection process look bad when a kid that is known to have never played that position makes 2nd team at that position.

It's also possible when dragging down on the position option list that the person nominating "clicked" on the wrong position group by accident. I actually did that with a player and was able to delete and start over, but if I hadn't caught it in time it would have been a mixup.
