The Kentucky/Tennessee All-Star game was suspended because Tennessee wanted the game moved to just following the season. Kentucky refused and said they wanted to keep it in the summer, as always. Tennessee's argument was, they couldn't get players that had committed to college to play in an All-Star Game in the summer, but they expected they could if it was right after the season.

 

So, now that the series ended and Kentucky is playing the Louisville/State game, it has been moved to right after the season. That change would have kept the Kentucky/Tennessee game going, but apparently wasn't doable at that time. But, it is doable now when it's a Kentucky only game.

 

Tennessee was accused of being unreasonable when they requested the change of time for the game. Tennessee was blamed for the series ending. But, in reality, was it Kentucky's fault for refusing to make the change to the "End of season" format?

I was close to the game the last year TN and KY played. I heard a lot of talk that while TN dominated the series everything was fine. However, once KY started piling up the W's our southern neighbors took their ball and went home.

Possibly, but Tennessee did ask to have the game moved to after the season. Kentucky refused. And, that was when Tennessee said they couldn't play anymore. I'm sure they were not happy about losing to Kentucky, and that was one motivation for the change of season, but that does not change the fact that Kentucky refused then moved the In-State All-Star game to the exact time that Tennessee wanted in the first place.

Sounds a lot like Kentucky's fault here because I would say by the summer the kids (especially the football ones) are preparing for their colleges. I'm sure some might even have playbooks at the time and have to be studying, etc. so when they show up to school and start practicing that they aren't too far behind. It definitely makes more sense to have it sooner rather than later so Kentucky is definitely being unreasonable here.

It does seem odd that KY said no, then holds a game at the same time. I wish we could get something cooking with TN again or IN or OH.

Tennessee didn't have any problem with the summer game when they were kicking our tails. The 2005 TN team had 8 kids that were going to Tennessee and one that came to UK, Jeremy Jarmon. KY still won the game by 2 TDs.

 

I don't know all the details, but I feel confident in saying Kentucky tried hard to keep the series alive.

Tennessee. I see nothing wrong with Kentucky holding an in-state all star game when we want to after Tennessee took their ball and went home. Sore losers. Beating them in college and high school now. :lol:

Then we started winning and they wanted to move the game to a different time. I think this is 90% TN because they are the ones that refused to continue the summer game that had been going on since the early 80s.

I like the idea of seeing our best 80 players getting attention rather than just 40.

It sounds like a little bit of both states are at fault for me, but the Louisville/KY at large Allstar game is a joke. I would love to have the KY/TN game back. This year was terrible coaching for the KY at large team and half of the best players in the state either weren't nominated or didn't play for one reason or another. I went the game this past Sunday and I will never go back.
