I think what they were trying to convey is that they wanted to win with God in their hearts, and consecrate their efforts to the Lord. It's no different than a batter crossing himself before he hits, or a football player pointing up to heaven after a touchdown. I don't think they meant it to sound like they expected God to take sides in a high school football game.

But just in case God does take sides, we want to be safe and try and make sure he picks us.

I need to visit Belfry. And I'm gonna make sure the FCA sees it. :ylsuper:

Done this, and spoke with the school too. Gonna get these kids some info and Bibles thru the FCA. Someone will visit the schools in the next few weeks from the FCA.

Central is the rightful King of 3A...there is no denying that. Belfry, OTOH, is the rightful Prince of 3A Football.

 

I think people will be surprised with how complete this Belfry team is. Even in their Championship years of 2003 and 2004 there were definitive weaknesses you could point out (Pass Defense, a QB who was no passing threat whatsoever in 2004). The 2007 team was very good, but seemed to overlook Central and were not ready for their athleticism. The 2010 team was a group who drastically over achieved despite being very young (about 6 of those guys who started as SOPH's and FRESH will be playing Friday), even Belfry fans will admit they could see that shelling coming. Last year you saw the maturation of Belfry's young talent, coupled with pieces of Senior leadership that left the Pirates inches away from what would have been considered one of the bigger upsets in Finals History.

 

The 2012 Pirates are littered with 3 year starters and their biggest strength is a big Senior heavy Oline that have flat dominated at times this year. For those that have seen Belfry play the biggest surprise will be QB Sani Warren as this kid brings a skill set Belfry has not had at the signal caller position in decades, he was the MVP of the WKU QB Camp and the kid simply plays the game with a quiet confidence. Belfry's two middle LB's have close to a combined 1000 career tackles between them. I eluded to weaknesses, on the surface there is no glaring weakness that you can pinpoint on this Belfry team.

 

Unlike games with most other 3A teams, Belfry fans can not point out why Belfry SHOULD win when it comes to Central. The Pirates, however, for the first time since 2007 can legitimately point why they CAN win against a very, very good Central squad. The Yellowjackets have the utmost respect of the Belfry program... Scroggins is highly revered as a Head Coach... if the Prince wants to remove the King from power it is going to require a complete and total team effort with flawless precision.

Bob Norman, a man (minister) who will be there this Friday without a doubt (moved away in the mid 80's), was leading Friday morning devotions for all students at Belfry starting in the mid 70"s when Coach Roddy came to Belfry. Every FB player was there, it was just like a practice, no less than a 150 to 200 most every Friday.

 

After every game, win or lose, we said as a team " I have kept the faith and I fought the good fight, henceforth there is laid up a crown of righteousness for me". That is not a complete verse, but he said it summed up 1 Timothy pretty good and he thought it was good for our FB team to be accountable to each other.
