It's freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Nowhere in the constitution will you find a "separation" of church and state. I like it.

Very touching moment when both teams and coaches gathered in a prayer circle after knocking each others brains out the entire afternoon in by far the hardest hitting game of the weekend. An amazing display of sportsmanship from both programs from two entirely different cultural demographics.

As long as the sign was inspired by players and not by the coach then I think they should be fine. Pendleton County's basketball team asks the opposing team to join them for a prayer at center court after every game. The coaches can't play a role in this, but as long as players lead it, there should be no problem.

You're right Clyde, but until a plaintiff with standing comes forward it's not likely to be challenged.

Correct. Just like fouls in basketball. They're not a problem until the official blows his whistle.

We, here at Bell Co., know all about a lawsuit. We had one filed because of our pre-game prayer. Great Belfry; love it.

When most teams pray they don't pray to win the game, because something I tell kids who pray and play sports, the other team will pray too. We all know the issues they pray for.

 

Once I told kids the story of me coming to the plate (Softball world church tourney) and their were runners on 2nd/3rd. The winning run was on second, a hit by me would win our biggest game of the year. There were two outs, if I made the out we would lose.

 

As I walked to the plate I asked Jesus to let me use my talents to do my best, and be satisfied with the results of the next few seconds, and my team still care about me. It took about 15 seconds to say this, I didn't ask Jesus to allow me to get this base hit, or let me be the hero.

When a team uses a verse like this for a sporting event how are they defining "victory?"

 

It seems to me the term was being used in relation to the final score of the athletic contest. That doesn't feel right to me.
