Bama has played pretty well after what happened this spring. The tornado was something that directly affected each players life that was enrolled at the U of A. The plane crash while tragic dealt with the women's basketball program. I highly doubt that any football players were friends with either coach and I would imagine that many hadn't even met them. Let me say again that the incident is very tragic as any untimely death is, but I think people are putting too much emphasis on this and OK State losing a football game.

1. The tornado was devestating but it was many months ago. The shock of the event had subsided by the beginning of practice.

2. It's not just about who you know. It's about placing yourself in those planes and how quickly life can be over. I didn't know a single student killed at VA Tech a few years ago but I was dazed for quite a while by the event because I knew some students and heard many stories you guys have not. Group trauma is very real and very hard to gauge. This is particularly true that close to the event.

3. These aren't excuses. The Cowboys lost. The Tide lost. The gap in the final poll was miniscule that led to the Tide going. It is what it is and onward we go. However it doesn't mean that there will not always be questions.

If that is the case, why is it limited to Ok State and not every team that traveled on a plane and played that weekend? While this is tragic, I don't think this can compare to everything that happened at VPI.

OK State's loss @ Iowa State had more to do with them overlooking the Cyclones and looking forward to the Oklahoma game.

You are looking for ways to debate. The truth is that group trauma takes on many forms and you might want to do some research in the psychosis that follows. My attempt was NOT to compare the two in their weight but to understand that events such as: Marshall's Football team, the Congresswoman from Arizona, Buddy Holly's flight, Lynyrd Skynrd, Dale Earnhardt and VPI all carry a group experience of mourning and loss. We haven't even touched on the fact that this same school experienced a devestating crash a few years ago as well.

We have overspent the time on this. If you don't get it, you just don't get it. Deal with people in a counseling setting over and again who are dealing with loss and you might.

I'm done with this kind of debate. I really could care less about which team is in. I just think it is sad that some have no empathy for a group of people because their football loyalties or desires don't allow them to.

That is not fair. I do not believe people are showing a lack of empathy, but no person can evaluate what kind of an effect (positive or negative) the plane crash had on OSU. It is not fair to either OSU or Alabama to consider the incident when casting a final vote. You have to go by what took place on the field. OSU would be the first to agree.

Where did that come from?

The more I read the more I realize this BCS stuff is like our government. For years everybody knows it's broken yet there is still nothing done to fix it!

One thing about the loss of the coaches, and to me a loss of life play thats just a terrible thing to take place no matter who/where/it happens, but one thing someone brought up was OSU was up 24-7 did they all just stop and start to think about the plane crash and then lose focus and the game. This was not my comment, but if you put in a football game of mind it makes sense. We had a kid a player who lost his girl, and he also spent time with a 10 year old boy who had lost both his parents. The team deciated the season to the families/people of the state. And if we win we win for all of them.

Once the game is being played you think about what?

I would say that seeing the devastation day after day would not help with the coping and healing of what happened @ U of A that day.

No. I didn't believe Kansas St would only lose twice. I believed UC would win the BE. I believed Bama would win round 1 against LSU. I believed Wisconsin would win at Mich-St, but if they happened to lose that game that would be their only loss. I thought Oregon would beat USC easily at home. I believed Clemson would beat NC-St. I believed Virginia Tech would beat Clemson twice (they've been outscored like 70-13).

For me there is a simple answer.....No and No. I can certainly understand why OK State is upset but imo LSU and Bama are imo the two best teams in the country. The BCS got it right.

Also, I predicted Bma in the first meeting, was wrong and I am picking Bama again. My pre season pick.....Alabama wins NC #14 and I will stay with it.

I get tired of hearing that argument. Oklahoma State had their shot too, but they lost to Iowa State. That loss is a lot worse than Bama losing to LSU.

:thumb::thumb:

What we DO KNOW is that Bama has proven they can't beat LSU.
Not true at all ... all we know is that Alabama didn't beat LSU in their first meeting.

They shouldn't get a second chance if teams like Oklahoma State have a more impressive resume and haven't had that chance.
Oklahoma State doesn't have a more impressive resume, in my opinion. Who does?

Those of you saying the BCS got it right are the reason we still have this god forsaken system. What makes Bama more deserving than the other 1 loss teams? I mean, Stanford has a really good resume, with there 1 loss being to #5 Oregon, and OK St lost an away game to an inferior team, but it was in the midst of a terrible tragedy. I just can't say the BCS got it right, when multiple teams had the same record. Especially when the team that made it didn't win their conference, or their division. I know Stanford didn't either, but I'm just saying that I can't say they "got it right".
