I don't believe they would but I sure would like to see them try in a playoff game.

Not true. Alabama got to the title game by winning every other game they played. If you want to say they won by losing, then say they won the title game bid by everyone else losing.

So you're ok with LSU having to sweep and Ala only having to split?

Man, I promised I wouldn't comment...
You don't think Alabama won a huge advantage by losing that game? That they got to sit at home during the week conferences were playing championship games and get a do-over with a team that already beat them?

They would have to sweep OSU to win the title as well.

You guys are over thinking this for how the system is set up. The regular season is there to decide who plays for the title. Once that's decided the only game that matters is the title game. Winner take all. The only difference between this and a playoff is how you get to the title game. If we had a play off and LSU and Bama both made it to the championship would it be any different? If UK had beaten UCONN last year in the final four would you look at it the same way? I mean UConn had to sweep UK but UK only had to split.

A playoff is a completely different animal. No one would have any issue if there was a rematch through or after a playoff where the other hopefuls got a stab at the beast. As it is, there is no playoff - where every game is supposed to matter - and Alabama is getting a gift handed to them by getting the rematch. We can split hairs over whether Alabama's loss was "better" than OK St.'s loss, but LSU already beat one of those teams.

Again, you guys are overthinking it. The regular season is used to decide the two best teams who then play for the title. Once that's decided everything that happened in the regular season doesn't matter. And I disagree that a playoff is a different animal. A playoff is used to decide the 2 teams that will play for the title. The BCS is also used to decide who plays for the title. In both cases what happened in the regular season doesn't and shouldn't mean squat. I keep hearing that Bama had their shot but that just isn't the case. If Bama had won that game would they have been crowned as the Champs? No? Then they didn't have their chance. It was just another game on thier schedule that is a building block in their claim for being the #2 team and a chance to play for the title.

I don't believe OSU would beat Bama, and I think the top 2 teams are playing in the NC. With that said, it isn't the game I wanted to see because I've already seen it once this season. Yes, it's a selfish opinion. I just feel like another team should have the opportunity to beat LSU since Bama already squandered theirs.

This post sums up my thread. 90% believe we have the best two teams playing which is the general idea - two best teams play for a championship.

However, it leaves a little bitterness in our taste buds. Yes, we know the two best are playing but that doesn't excite us. The unknown excites us even though we know in our heart of hearts it's not the two best teams.

Lets go through the arguments:

Argument: Bama already lost to LSU.

Response: OK St lost to Iowa State who is 6-6. So OK St should go to the title game because they lost to somebody WORSE?

Argument: Bama got out of playing in the SEC championship by losing.

Response: The Big12 didn't even have a championship game. So [edit: Bama] has the advantage here how? They both played 12 games.

I believe that Alabama would very likely beat Oklahoma State, but the Cowboys still won their conference. I am perfectly aware that losing to Iowa State was nothing like losing to LSU by 3, but that game was in Tuscaloosa and the Tide is in the same division of the SEC with LSU, which is one of the main reasons I believe that people may not like the idea of the rematch as much.

I do believe that this puts added pressure on Alabama to win and if they are to lose again, not mattering if by only a little or badly, we will be hearing all the way until the next football season how they shouldn't have been given another chance.

I honestly don’t know if OSU would beat Bama and will never know, therein lies the problem.

Who cares if they would beat Bama? All that is is simple conjecture. This isn't about who should be playing Bama.

What we DO KNOW is that Bama has proven they can't beat LSU. That's been shown on the field, not in the polls, or in the computers, but on the field. They shouldn't get a second chance if teams like Oklahoma State have a more impressive resume and haven't had that chance.

I'm probably not understanding your rationale but don't the two bolded statements seem contradictory?

I would also say that your statement in italics wouldn't apply here because no one played off to get to the title game. They were selected weren't they?

That's a big bone of contention with me. I remember a lot of people upset when Nebraska went to the title game and they did not win their conference. Who else has gone that not only lost in their conference but lost in their division and didn't even make a conference title game?
