If we're looking for the best two teams why should winning your conference matter?

It doesn't in and of itself. I think the question is how anyone can be certain the two best teams are from the same conference when they haven't played every other conference. It's all guesswork to an extent, but LSU already beat Alabama, let them play OK St. to see who is number two.

It's a good question. However I do recall the outcry for Nebraska that year and it seems maybe another team that I don't recall right now. It may have been one of the questions asked the year Oklahoma went instead of Texas. Some said that since OU was the higher ranked team and got to go to the Big 12 title game, Texas should have been excluded from National Title consideration.

I'm probably not understanding your rationale but don't the two bolded statements seem contradictory?

I would also say that your statement in italics wouldn't apply here because no one played off to get to the title game. They were selected weren't they?

The two statements aren't contradictory. The second statement was after you get in the title game.

As far as the statement in italics not sure which you mean. It's all in italics.

Yeah, sorry about that.

A playoff is used to decide the 2 teams that will play for the title.

Where is the playoff to decide this? That was what I was asking.

Who cares if they would beat Bama? All that is is simple conjecture. This isn't about who should be playing Bama.

What we DO KNOW is that Bama has proven they can't beat LSU. That's been shown on the field, not in the polls, or in the computers, but on the field. They shouldn't get a second chance if teams like Oklahoma State have a more impressive resume and haven't had that chance.

And OK St has proven they can't beat Iowa St.

All we KNOW is on that particular day LSU beat Bama. If they played 10 times it would probably end 5-5. The best team doesn't always win. I honestly believe if OK St had lost to a good team instead of a bad team they would be playing for a title. They cost themselves a shot at the title. It's hard to overcome that bad of a loss, and I think a lot of voters couldn't get passed that.

No we don't. Bama didn't show that they can't beat LSU, only that they didn't beat LSU in a very closely-contested game in their prior matchup. Bama can beat LSU and probably has the best chance of any team in the country of doing so.

That being said, I'd rather see OSU play the game just to see if their offense could actually put up some points on LSU. If LSU's offense would lay a turd like they did against Georgia for the most part, OSU could win it. OSU played a tougher overall schedule, beating 3 Top 15 opponents this season, while Bama beat only one. I think they earned the right to be there.

Who's to say that, given the circumstances of the OK St game, that Alabama wouldn't lose at Iowa State as well? With your argument, hasn't Alabama already proven they can't beat LSU? Iowa State did beat a pretty good OU team as well. I don't think that Bama could beat LSU 5 times out of 10 either. Other than that, I do agree with the rest of your post, even if i do wish OK St would've gotten their shot because they haven't lost to LSU already this season. One thing I do know is that, because of the way things turned out, the college football forum sure has been fun the past few days. Lol.

Umm.. did you see the LSU/UGA game? Or even a box score? LSU scored 42, and UGA's defense is 17th in the country. OSU's is 61st.

And 3 top 15 teams? Let's try 2 top 14 teams (OU and K State). No way in the world do you count TAMU (#8 at the time) who finished 6-6 with a losing conference record.

According to the SOS numbers from realtimerpi.com, Bama's SOS was 13 and OSU's was 25.

When?

Must have been sometime other than the 26-6 loss this year...

When?

I get going to fast and type some dumb stuff sometimes guys. My bad. I don't even know what I was thinking there. I feel like a dummy lol. I am done multitasking while on BGP. Always bites me in the butt.

#8 Kansas State

#12 Baylor

#14 Oklahoma

Yep, saw the game. LSU's defense and special teams won the game. Their offense struggled. I'm sure it did have quite a bit to do with Georgia's defense. Never said otherwise, only that OSU could win if LSU's offense again struggled, as OSU stands the better chance of putting up some points against LSU's defense.

But as far as the question, I do think they could beat Bama. I think Bama would slow them down, but for some reason I don't think Richardson could beat them. I just don't have much faith in Bamas offense, other than there excellent running game. For some reason, I do think OSU is good enough to put points on the board against the SEC D's.

Sure...in college football most in the top 10 could beat any other top 10 team if given enough chances. I believe this LSU team should go down as one of the best of all time....seriously. And Alabama, simply darlings of the media (and BGP).
