Did Urban still have some years remaining on his contract at UF when he resigned?

Figured out those family issues quickly didn't he?

I thought Forde's column on the subject hit the nail on the head. Meyer had his first tough moment in 2009 in Florida and the prospects weren't looking any better. He bailed. Every excuse he gave was likely just not true.

I know he had some health problems then with his heart and the impact stress level was having on his heart but I think him knowing he didn't have the teams he had been used to was a big part in stepping down as well. I joke about this often, but in a way I feel it has some truth to it. But I feel Cam Newton had a little to do with Urban leaving Florida, as crazy as that sounds. Again, not saying it was the whole reason, health problems and other issues were probably a bigger factor. But to me, I just felt that Urban Meyer had to have just been absolutely sick to watch last season and watch how last season turned out. Here he has his decent Gator team being led by John Brantley so they have to try to throw it more and do some things different since he don't give you that typical guy you would want to run the spread. He had already had the perfect guy in Tebow, and he capitolized on that. For him to have to watch what Cam Newton was doing last year for Auburn knowing he had ran him out of town and knowing he could have had him in his spread had to have made him just sick, as sick as possible. I mean it just had to. Auburn lost Newton and Fairley and not much else and you see the difference in them being a National Champion and just your standard team. Everyone seen what Newton did last year and how much he elevated Auburn. Imagine what he could have done at Florida with all that talent around, Urban could have once again been right there challenging for the title, instead Florida went back a few steps and the rest is history. So with that said I think that kind of goes back to what you said as far as him looking forward with his Florida team and realizing although they will be a good team, they were not going to be a Nation Title Contender. In order for Meyer to be successful he has to have a QB, has to. He had it in Newton and ran him off campus since Tebow was there. I think Meyer felt he should get out while he could, and now look he ended up right back into a prime situation with once again another prime spread QB prospect.

He did the math and realized he could afford to hire a good look alike to be at all of those family functions that he won't have time to make it to.

If Meyer has the same success at OSU that he had with Florida and only stays 5 or 6 years I can live with that. I remember Saban taking a lot of heat surrounding him taking the Alabama job, but it seems all is forgotten now. Amazing what winning will do.

Meyer hasn't experienced high pressure yet. He gets it x3 in Columbus. As far as off the field player arrests, he's used to that at Florida and that culture won't change in Columbus. I'm curious what his family thinks because they just lost their father again.

 

UF is a pressure cooker IMO. Its a delusional fanbase. OSU is not. I don't think its tougher to be the OSU coach than it is UF's. His last season Gator fans wanted half the coaching staff gone even though they'd won so big there.

Not against you, but we don't really care about the feelings of the LSU fan base or anything with LSU. Miami Dolphins hate him too and a lot of NFL folks and again who cares. :idunno:

I expect great things from Urban @ OSU.

^I'd say it's the garbage excuse he gave for leaving Florida, then to turn around and take the Ohio State job. Shows Meyer was lying the whole time IMO.

 

IMO, Meyer didn't want to deal with Gator nation anymore. They're like the Texas A&M of the south, except they have actually won some titles. Some Gator fans would actually argue their programs prestige is on par with OSU, Michigan, USC or Alabama. He said his last two years there he'd get yelled at when he went to go and grab a bite of food. At least this will take some of the pressure off Muschamp.

I think it was a great hire for OSU. It is certainly possible that Meyer will turn the Buckeyes into a juggernaut. However, I think there's a chance things could turn out disappointing. He has set the bar high winning 2 BCS titles in 6 seasons. I think Buckeye fans will be expecting a championship relatively soon from him and that is far from a sure thing. Will his presence allow the Buckeyes to dominate in-state recruiting even more? And, more importantly, will Meyer's time in Florida allow him to score big in that state?
