In reply to TP a couple posts up, I think you make some very valid points.

 

As to N. Ky. football, it is better than some are saying on here. Covington Holy Cross is very good and them beating NCC is no knock on NCC. Remember, versus NCC Beechwood played without Davis and Erdman the whole game and Nussbaum went out shortly after Hightchew. Factor that in when you consider that game. Cov Cath is probably the #2 team in 4A and one of the top 10 teams in the state.

 

The match up at the line of scrimmage is a big factor. Beechwood's line is big, athletic and experienced. Mayfield's is young and smaller than in previous years. So that will be something Beechwood has to exploit.

 

 

 

No doubt Beechwood wanted more balance in the offense but Davis missed several games and the running game has been so dominate that it has limited how often Beechwood threw the ball. I do agree with you that Beechwood will almost surely have to throw the ball to beat Mayfield. The passing game made plays versus Frankfort and will have to do the same versus Mayfield.

I like his prediction because he predicted Dixie would beat Beechwood too.

 

Nice breakdown by Glasgens and tristatefootball.com. A few minor mistakes in there (Franklin instead of Frankfort?; Mayfield has 10 titles?). But in his game analysis he makes a lot of good comments. Of course, as a Beechwood fan, I hope his final score prediction is wrong.

The LHC coaching staff, as reported in the Courier Journal, felt like the gap between the 2 teams had narrowed going into last week's game. Well, it did. This year's game was a whopping 1 point closer than last year's. I think the Beechwood/Mayfield game will show the gap has narrowed between these 2, but not enough to get the Beechies over the hump. Danville is to Mayfield as Mayfield is to Beechwood. This series is slowly heading in that same direction.

 

Considering that even the powers that be on Bluegrass Preps pick Mayfield to win another championship... it's gotta make any Cardinal fan feel pretty good. Just got a feeling that the Tigers will get off to yet another slow start in this game and playing at home is all Mayfield should need.

From watching the Cardinals the past few years. I would disagree with an notion of this being a better year than "2010". Cardinal offense was much stronger compared to this years. However, I can not debate whether their defense between 2010 and 2011. Without a doubt, Mayfield is a strong team. Beechwood is also a strong team. Beechwood will pull away with a victory due to its outstanding offense (Vocke, Nussbaum) and a very strong defense (Bradley, Nussbaum, Staten). It will being close and interesting, but we will just have to see what happens.

The 76 team doesn't get mentioned alot because of what the 77 and 78 teams did, but, they were the 1st Mayfield team to make it to the finals and they still had all those 77 and 78 kids as Jrs and sophs and had a really good sr class with the Reymann brothers, G.Wilson and several other really good players. They were a very deep team that year.

 

The '76 and '77 squads played some very, very strong Corbin teams in the finals. Each year could have gone either way for either team. I saw the Cardinal teams against Danville in the 80's, and as good as they were I didn't seem them to be nearly as strong as the '77 team I saw in the finals. :thumb:

The Beechwood team in 77 wasn't very good. In light of this I guess I will have pick Mayfield tonight!
