He said it in jest and you blindly took it seriously! Very funny!
No, I didn't take it seriously. It did, however, get to be very annoying.

Yes, I think that 2010 was best MHS team ever, and, you are wrong, I was born here, (in the 1950's) played football there in the 70's, and have been an avid fan all my life!
I doubt that anybody that has been around the program on a regular basis sees the 2010 team as the best ever at Mayfield. I suspect that distinction goes to one of the late-1970s teams.
If you were told by Booster Board member then you should know. Booster officer was the contact for school related bus. The other bus was organized by a parent before Beechwood indicated they would have a bus. BTW the temperance bus cost $10 more.

I'm surprised no one from Mayfield picked up on the "If Mayfield happens to win" statement.

Gee, thank you for the details. It is obvious you know more about the bus than I do. Do I need to privately send you the e-mail correspondence I had with a Board member? I am a member of the BW booster club and that is why I reached out to this person. Unfortunately the response I received asked how many seats on the bus I needed but lacked any further details, hence the reason for my post. So.......I don't know. All I am trying to do is secure a spot for my daughter and I to go support the Tigers. The "if Mayfield happens to win" statement was meant in good fun and a couple of other posters saw it that way. I am having difficulty with receiving such a response from what appears to be a fellow BW supporter. All I was doing was asking for some help. I hope you enjoy the game and have some fun.

:ylsuper: I think you're right.. Those teams didn't wipe out the competition like the 2010 team did, but, they also played the likes of E.St Louis, Brentwood Academy, Memphis Douglas, among others and in those days, PTilghman was a bear as well. Even Murray and Caldwell Co, in there district, were good enough teams to have possibly won state had it not been for Mayfield. Heath was another really strong team they played in those days.

I also recall Coach Morris mentioning the 84 team as being one of the most talented teams he ever coached that didn't win it all. I can't remember much about that team, just that he mentioned them and I believe they got beat in the semi finals at Ft Knox that year on a fluke fumble recovery on the Knox 1 yd line that they picked up and ran back 99 yds, after Mayfield was about to put the game away.

The 1980 team that got beat by Ft Campbell was awfully talented, too. That team had M.Moss, J.Redd and C.Parrott in the backfield together and had a couple of all state tackles in J.Prince and T.Seavers. If I'm not mistaken, there 3 yr starting QB, Flood, got injured late in the year and they had to go to a backup, Hancock to finish out the year.

Someone may can correct me if I'm wrong on those years. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Sounds about right. 78 team was pretty good. 70 team with Fowler, Ford, Robert Mayfield, Anderson was good too, they got took out by Madisonville which had Sonny Collins, Jones, Fabel. Fowler got his knee tore up in that game, tied at halftime , I was there.

Mayfield actually held a comfortable lead at FT Knox into the 4th and the Cards were deep in Ft Knox territory about to score again when there was a fumble that started a series of events that led to a weird victory for Ft Knox.

Well I don't know what some of you would call (been around the program on a regular basis), but since my High School days in the 70's I have probably not missed more than MAYBE 10 games. I think that would put me in a group that knows the program fairly well. Even avid MHS fans can disagree on the best team ever. I will admit tho, that UK fan has jogged my memory a bit about the quality of teams we played back then and maybe I need to reconsider my stance. You bring up some valid points and I give you props for that. Maybe 2010 was not the best ever, but they were at a minimum right there with them. I stand corrected!

The teams of the late 80s, early 90s were awfully good, too, but, they ran into some outstanding Danville teams that they just couldn't quite get over the hump on. The year they had D.Kirby and W.Murrell in the backfield together was a really explosive team, can't remember what year that was though. That team also had some great LBs that would light you up.

Here you go boys hot off the press enjoy!

Preview: Beechwood at Mayfield

The Beechwood Tigers are in familiar territory, but it is not all good. Yes they are in the midst of yet another deep playoff run, but this week they make a trip to Mayfield to face a team that has ended their season in each of the past two seasons.

Beechwood wasted no time in disposing of Franklin last week 51-19 to claim the regional title and win their ninth straight outing. Meanwhile, Mayfield is coming off 44-0 shutout over Louisville Holy Cross and enter this contest as winners of 28 straight.

With a trip to Bowling Green on the line both sides will bring everything they’ve got in this affair. Let’s take a closer look at the Class 1A state-final matchup:

BEECHWOOD (12-1) AT MAYFIELD (13-0)

Site: Mayfield High School – War Memorial Stadium

Kickoff: Friday, November 25th at 7:30 P.M.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Mayfield’s Jonathon Jackson is a star of the both of sides of the ball for the Cardinals. He is approaching the 2000-yard mark on the ground and has picked off five passes on defense. Quarterback Jake Guhy spreads the ball around well and makes very few mistakes. He doesn’t hurt opponents as a runner, but more than makes up for with his accuracy. The Tigers’ versatile Max Nussbaum does his damage with his legs. He has rushed for 168 yards per game and six touchdowns in three playoff wins. Running back Cameron Vocke has already eclipsed the 2000-yard rushing mark and needs just two more rushing scores to get to 30-TD plateau. Senior FB/LB Joey Staten doesn’t often get noticed in the box score, but his refusal to quit on plays is a valuable asset for the Tigers.

TEAM TRENDS: Mayfield has won the last two matchups 38-0 in 2009 and 38-14 last year at Beechwood. The Cardinals are the defending Class 1A state champions and have won 10 state titles overall. The Tigers have been crowned state champions 11 times, most recently in 2008. Beechwood scores in bunches and average 50.5 points per game. Mayfield keeps teams off the scoreboard as a good as anybody in the state as they’ve ceded just 5.9 points per contest while holding 10 of their 13 opponents to seven points or less. The Cardinals are tough at home last losing there on November 7, 2008 against Caldwell County, a span of 24 games.

BEECHWOOD’S KEYS TO VICTORY: Beechwood’s tough schedule is going to pay dividends here. Over the past two meetings the Tigers have struggled to get its running game going versus Mayfield. Much of that has come from getting beat up front. This year the Tigers will have the advantage in trenches in both size and experience and they need to capitalize on it. It’s a long trip to Mayfield and unfriendly environment. Getting out to a fast start will not only help quiet the fans, but should also help put pressure on the Cardinals. Mayfield has a balanced offense, but haven’t been asked to come from behind often.

MAYFIELD’S KEYS TO VICTORY: Defense wins champions and it has been a staple of this Cardinals’ team all season. Forcing Beecwhood into passing situations by limiting their yardage on early downs should help lead to turnovers and points on the board from the Cardinals. Winning the turnover battle will play into their hands very well. Stopping the Tigers’ high-powered running attack should ensure Mayfield a third straight trip to Bowling Green.

PREDICTION: MAYFIELD 24, BEECHWOOD 20

If 2010 was one of the best ever, am I right when I say this team isn't as good as 2010? From the above posts, it sounds like most Mayfield fans would say this year's defense is better but the team is not. So taking that into this year's game versus Beechwood, I would say Beechwood is better on both sides of the ball this year and better overall. Mayfield is better on defense but not as good on offense and not as good overall. The gap was not that wide between the two last year IMO. So that all tells me that Beechwood has a right to feel more confident about winning this year than the last two years. Anyone disagree or agree with all that?

Nice breakdown by Glasgens and tristatefootball.com. A few minor mistakes in there (Franklin instead of Frankfort?; Mayfield has 10 titles?). But in his game analysis he makes a lot of good comments. Of course, as a Beechwood fan, I hope his final score prediction is wrong.

I think the gap between the two teams last year was big, MHS won by 24 and it could easily been 31 points had MHS not taken a knee so many times late in the game and showed good sportsmanship. If, Beechwood is better on both sides of the ball I would say that the gap has gone down because I don't think this MHS team is as good offensively as last years team. Is it enough for Beechwood to beat MHS? I don't know, thats a lot of points to make up. I think this is going to be a very tight game won by no more than 7 points.

The 76 team doesn't get mentioned alot because of what the 77 and 78 teams did, but, they were the 1st Mayfield team to make it to the finals and they still had all those 77 and 78 kids as Jrs and sophs and had a really good sr class with the Reymann brothers, G.Wilson and several other really good players. They were a very deep team that year.

This years defense is better

Last year offense was better

Not sure which team was better, history will later allow that to be debated

No doubt last year was a great team (ask Bw fans or better yet go back to the thread after the Cards beat Bw last year and read the comments for yourself) but as I have stated before, the late 70's teams are Mayfield's best in my opinion.

Beechwood appears better on the surface but a little digging makes me question how much better. I honestly expected more of this years Bw team and less of Mf who is susposed to be reloading for next year when they will have the ingredients for what could be a very special team if they develop like their talent appears to be laid out. Bw has a great record and has dominated most opponets but their signature games are over a obviously overated NCC with the NCC qb going out early (which was a turning point in the game) and a loss to Cov Cath. No doubt Cov Cath was good but also gained alot of star power from a close game with Highlands who handily beat them in a rematch. I just dont see NKY football as being as good as they are most years. Other factors that make me question Bw is the Frankfort game that was closer than the score (14-7 Halftime). Finally, Bw does not appear to have ever established much balance on offense. The pass game for Bw had only found moderate success this season. The Tigers for the season have ran the ball 90% of their offensive plays and when they have passed they have only completed 51% on the year. As noted from the article I posted earlier, Rash thinks he does not need to with the great run game that is powered by a bigger, stronger older line. I don't think Mf will give up alot of points unless Bw masters the forward pass more so than they have shown to this point.

So VoR if Im Bw I am confident but highly concerned. They have to contend with a long drive that is disruptive to the norm and go into a hostile place that feels like it is a million miles from home (which isn't to far from the truth) 5 or 6 Bw players will have played in all 3 games and while Im sure they want this badly they also know that Mayfield has dominated them like nothingthey have ever experienced before so they will have some hidden doubt in the back of their minds. A few may even be worried "LaBront Scott leaving a knott on their forehead":ohbrother: From the song couldn't help myself on that one:laugh: Had Bw developed a better pass attack to go with their great run game I would be more concerned. Now all that said, turnovers and mistakes change games and gameplans and both teams are great so we will se if it is the young upstart Cards with the linemen that Bw is planning to try and exploit or the vetern Tigers and their experienced line and backs.

You just better hope your boy Lamont doesn't have a knot on his forehead!
