With respect to my T brethern - I thought this was a fairly straightforward post. Applaud your support of your team/school. Thought you interestingly raised some relevant points.

 

But as pointed out by someone else - guess it is really none of anyone else's business !!!!!

 

I appreciate that you seem to understand my post was more centered around X not keeping up with Trinity vs. attacking them for their recent dominating performances. I am truly concerned with where this rivalry goes. X needs to decide at what level we want to compete. I do not see X changing some things coaching/schemes but we will see.

Lets not compare apples and oranges. Coach Joe is one of the greatest people in the whole world but Coach Glaser has multiple state championship rings. I would compare that to asking why Coach Lampley hasn't replaced every other Coach at Trinity except the Cross Country and wrestling coach if they are okay with the status quo.

Let me address something about "grade school", "predictable", and whatever description you wish to call the St X program. Ball control and defense seems to work for Alabama and Uof L but not at St X right now? We lost 5 games, 3 to undefeated teams( when we played them), and 1 to Riverview.

 

The change would have to happen at the freshmen level and work its way through the 4 years. St X threw 2 less passes than Trinity in the latest game and lost by 36. Inside the stats, we had a 17 play drive where we ran it 13 times and dropped back to pass 4 times, completing 2 of 3 and sacked once. George Stone ran it for our only score. Our Qb this year was good at scrambling, but not your typical drop back passer. Before we dismiss the program, remember that they can only do what they can do. Part of coaching is getting your QB ready but I seem to remember Coach Curry at UK trying to get Tim Couch to run the option. There are no Tim Couchs currently at St X. There are no James Quicks, Daylen Dawkins, Ryan Whites, either. Maybe the tide changes in 2 years. Maybe it doesn't.

As the former parent of a player who's kid didn't get to play much, if at all, I can say that I understand where your question comes from. Admittedly, there were times that I would be frustrated for not seeing my son, who was on the sidelines dressed and ready to go, not get any playing time, or maybe only a minute or two of time at the end of a blow out game. BUT, each time I would bring the issue up with my son, his perspective was that Coach Beatty knew what he was doing, and point out that while he may not be seeing the field on game night, his role (at that time) was to be ready in case called. That being ready meant playing with game-like intensity in practice to prepare the 1st team at the highest level. My son was (and still is) extremely competitive. Somehow, the culture within the Trinity program makes many of the kids like him willing to take a back seat, but anxious and ready to step up when called. I know there are other parents who feel differently, and other kids as well. But speaking from my own family's perspective, and from the perspective of parents of kids with whom my son played and was close friends with, I found this to be the overriding perspective.

Thank you both for posting this prespective. I did not have a Son who played - so cannot speak to this subject with any authority. But I have to believe that there are more players and parents who feel as you do - than not.

 

It has to be special to be part of such a program. And, there are "no secrets" - as in does not everyone know 'going in' how the program operates. So- it is either for you or it is not. Choice.

Your kids played for Trinity? How did you end up "Tigercat"?

One other thing I should point out. I think that the whole notion of the subs not playing is WAY overblown, especially by anyone with Tiger in their name. My sons experience was not playing as a sophomore, playing some as a junior and playing a lot as a senior. I think that is the way it works for most of the guys.

From my experience, there are indeed some who feel like your son, but I think the majority feel like they should play in a blowout---but not necessarily in a close game. When my sons were in that situation, and they generally were players, they did not think that starters should play the entire game. It is extremely difficult to sit there with parents whose children are not playing in those situations and not feel uncomfortable.

Our starters generally don't play entire games in blowouts. At this point in the season, with more games on the horizon, I trust Beatty to keep us in the best position possible. So do our kids.
