This thread is taking a silly turn IMO. X's #2s played less than T's #2s. In fact, X's #1s kept T's #2 backfield from scoring late in the game. Big deal. It is not always about playing time - sometimes you are coaching for the next game (which is why T didn't empty the bench early on Manual). Could T be thinking national championship and be leaving the starters in an extra series or two? Maybe. But don't you think every backup on the team wants to win a national title too?! If anyone is old enough to remember the Brian Brohm era, there were SEVERAL games - especially his junior year - when he played one series in the second half and that was it. He could have thrown for a couple thousand more yds. in his career (surpassing Couch), but he rarely saw the end of the 3rd quarter let alone the 4th. And why is it the winning team's responsibility to empty the bench first? If you are getting thumped, then put your #2s in and then if the winning team doesn't reciprocate then you have a beef. Don't think you get to keep your #1s in to play against your opponents #2s just to make the score more respectable. It is not the better team's responsibility to make the score closer.

  • As the former parent of a player who's kid didn't get to play much, if at all, I can say that I understand where your question comes from. Admittedly, there were times that I would be frustrated for

Lot of friends whose sons were at T

Thank you both for posting this prespective. I did not have a Son who played - so cannot speak to this subject with any authority. But I have to believe that there are more players and parents who feel as you do - than not.

It has to be special to be part of such a program. And, there are "no secrets" - as in does not everyone know 'going in' how the program operates. So- it is either for you or it is not. Choice.

This post just pinpoints the differences in the schools. Inside the Trinity program, it is special to be a part of the championships, both as a starter and a backup. Many choose Trinity because of the storied tradition and like the house system, it has great value just being part of the group and contributing.

Being part of the St X program is a great honor also. But...if you are a 2nd teamer or a 3rd teamer, many of the kids choose to do other things during the fall. Like soccer, winners of 4 out of the last 5 state championships, or golf runner up this year and state champ last year, or cross county, state champ this year, or just playing fall baseball, state semifinalist last year.

There are choices, great choices, rather than sitting and watching and watching, and watching and maybe he can get in.

There are Trinity parents and kids who want to get into the game more but love the championships. They are extremely loyal to the Trinity program.

There are X parents and kids who want more football championships but love the avenues and opportunities the other sports give/gave them. They make the choice to stay entirely loyal to their sons.

This isn't to say Trinity parents aren't loyal to their sons or X parents aren't loyal to the football program. This isn't to say one is better than the other. It is where the differences are drawn.

That's all fine and dandy. This forum is about football.

Exactly my point. Trinity parents are proud of football and X parents are not willing to stay only on football because of the choices. 2 different beliefs.

^ That's a backhanded comment. Calling into question the belief system of our parents and their children. You have no idea. All that we know, is this forum is about football, and that's generally what it's content stays on.

Comical.:lol::rolleyes:

And right now I don't think I would stay on football if I were an X parent either.

Rather we know how to stay focused on the topic at hand. You see Trinity fans have an understanding of staying on topic and not bringing in unrelated details to try to assuage the anguish of the multiple lopsided losses. You see X fans seem to think it is only fair if they have numerous lopsided wins against Trinity. The moment our boys broke 35 points 4 times in a row it became personal. I don't seem to recall the same level of self assured acrimony when X won 36-18 in 04, 48-16 in 05, 30-6 in 2008, 32-7 and 34-10 in 2009. Of course if we want to go back before BGP we can. 40-0 in 1995, 31-13 in 1981, 34-12 in 1967, 46-6 in 1964, 48-6 in 1960 and of course the one only recently tied 48-0 in 1956.

Forgive me if I find any hurt feelings a bit misplaced since X still leads in number of blowouts 11-4. Take the smug to another part of the forum and talk football here.

You know, with that much manure I could fertilize all of Kansas. Look at the history. X has always been No 2 in football. Before Trinity it was Flaget. Since the late 60s it has been Trinity. I can remember a quote from an X player in the mid 60s that blamed the gap with Flaget on X academic standards. Now it is all those other fall sports. Give me a break.

X has been #1 twice in their history (that I can remember): In the mid 70s under Bill Glaser, and in the late 90s when T was down. However, I don't know that I would call them #2 over time. To me they are still more of a 1A. But golly, if they took some of that golf, tennis, and cross country energy and put it into football who knows how good they could be? I guess it's just a different belief system. :sssh::lol:
