NBA and NBPA have reached a deal - Tentatively

Care to explain because I gotta hear this one....
See Antoine Walker. While an extreme example, there are a chunk of guys I assure you fly through their money. It is estimated that 60% of NBA players go broke within 5 years of retirement. Not a collection of wealth managers we are talking about here.

Which is exactly why they don't deserve half of what they get. Owners can blow through money too but they invest. Players could learn from owners or just regular people on saving money for rainy days. I feel no sympathy for players on the professional level who make millions upon millions and blow through it and go broke and blame others or do whatever. Save your money, you don't need a 20 bedroom house with a gold toilet and 20 cars.

If you and I can survive on a 5 digit income then so can professional athletes.

In theory ever player should be able to sit out 2 to 3 years if not more.

In reality, too many live like that money they are making today will be there annually.

The owners are in MUCH better position than the players which is why the owners will get what they want moreso than the players.

Leverage is a beautiful thing.

I thought the average was even higher than that.

In a big city a pro athlete would be hard pressed to live on 5 digits. That's tought for anyone nowadays in NY, LA or Chicago.

Well obviously, but my point is that is average joe americans can save and manage a 5 digit income then professional athletes should be able to manage a 10 and 11 digit income. No sympathy.

I know but I hate hearing that pro athletes make too much money. There is a ton of money made by these leagues, games cost a fortune to go to (even more on the black market so you can't really blame the league), it has to go to someone. Might as well be the people that actually put the butts in the seats.

The ones making 10 and 11 digit income aren't hurting and can likely sit out a year or two. You'd be naive to think that most of the league makes that kind of money. The split in the union now is between the haves and the have nots.

RP, what is your beef with the NBA? We've heard everyone else's. What is yours?
Of all the major sports, it's athletes seem to be the least prepared to be playing it. Be it, on the job training, finances, public speaking etc. By paying them millions, they is no incentive to change their ways. Even now, the players aren't willing to give up a lot, so that the league can prosper, ensuring long term financial success. They are idiots. Lastly, I hate the lack of overall effort during the regular season, in comparison to post season.

Least prepared to be playing it and you say 'on the job training, finances, public speaking...'? That has nothing to do with playing the actual game. I could care less about their extracurriculars.

By paying them millions.....should they make less than other pro athletes in other sports making millions? You must really really hate baseball.

The players have given up plenty this lockout(which is owner initiated, no player initiated). How much money would you give up at your job for the sake of ensuring long term success of your company AFTER they gave you this money AFTER they imposed their last lockout?

People who say they don't try in the regular season are already jaded and don't watch the NBA regular enough to be able to notice. Show me one sport where the playoffs are equally as intense as the regular season. It's win or go home. The playoffs are always more intense than the regular season.

I'm pretty sure no one in the NBA, including the owners, are make a 10 or 11 digit income.

Pretty simple, most of them don't make millions. Most of them have entourages. Most of them spend more than they should.

That should be 7-9 digits. Not 10 and 11.

Most of them make millions. They may not have millions but they make millions.

Do you know what the average NBA salary is? That couldn't be further from the truth. Just because they spend money like idiots that gives them a pass?
