As one who is not emotionally vested in this issue and one that is more interested in the "negotiation" aspect of it I'm intrigued to see how it plays out.

I probably shouldn't have spoken quickly on what "the players" wanted. Everyone is different and I'm sure Kobe, LeBron and some other would love to see what their accounts would look like in a world with no salary cap.

The top 6 teams would be the same every year with very very little chance for anyone else to sneak in. It's kind of like that now but it would be worse.

It would definitely exacerbate the problem of competitiveness in what's already the least competitive of any of the major sports leagues in the U.S.
November 14, 201114 yr Poor contract negotiation on the owners part last CBA has killed the hope we had for basketball right now. It's sad because I felt the owners put out more than a fair offer, but since they got took so hard last CBA players did not want to give it all back.

November 15, 201114 yr Has anyone heard how the draft for 2012 will work if there isn't a season until Nov. 2012? Will there be a draft if the lockout is resolved in August of 2012 even though the players from 2011 would be rookies also? Would they draft in September? Could they draft? How would it affect those who want to leave school after this year?

For arguments sake what would the NCAA look like next year if EVERYONE returned???? Wow.
November 15, 201114 yr No....they should have done this before players could declare for the draft. Yeah, I am that selfish. I agree though, going to be that much harder for some guys to make roster spots if they don't get to play this season and then have to compete with yet another class next season. Really is bad news for the rookies.

It's kind of like that now but it would be worse. The league would not survive without a salary cap, there would be less than 10 teams in the league in ten years with that kind of model.
