Non-economic parameters of the new contract can't be negotiated except under collective bargaining, which means re-forming the union. That won't be done until all the economic issues are resolved leading to a settlement of the antitrust lawsuit.

I could totally see why people would hate him but I have to admit, Smitty is one of my favorites. In fact behind James, Wall, Rondo, and KD he may actually be in my top 5 as far as favorite current players go. People may call him a thug but when hes on, JR Smith is one of the best scorers in the league. Can knock down the three ball and take it to the rack and fly above the rim as well as anyone in the game. Real streaky shooter though, has played a lot in Denver but so far hasn't been as much of a constant as they would want I don't guess. Last year he lost a ton of minutes to Afflalo and the Felton/Lawson combo.

Wanting to say that the deal Smith signed says he has to play the entire season there regardless. Don't think there was an opt out in case the league started going again, unless somethings changed he may not return until next season.

Not sure but I would assume it would cost him a lot of money. Not sure about the pay schedule or anything but I would imagine if he left early he would not get what money he is supposed to get. I know he would be getting paid by the Nuggets or whoever he signs with (free agent I think) but as far as getting paid for the games he has already played I think he could possibly miss out on money that way. Or they could force him to pay back a portion of his salary, they could do a lot of things he could potentially not want to do. He don't make the 15 mil a year some guys do, he needs the money. If leaving to come back to the NBA would cost him money it could potentially be a deciding factor in him staying because he's not really in the position to lose money.

Agreed but he is going to miss out on a ton of money over here by waiting till next year to play.

Looks like it may not just be as simple as leaving China and say what can they do about it for JR Smith, as well as Wilson Chandler, K Mart, and Aaron Brooks.

 

Teams are threatening to not sign their FIBA release that would allow them to go back to the NBA. Plan on keeping them with their teams until the Chinese season is over with in March. Said basically you can either play until March and get paid or not play until March and not get paid.

Still technically in a lockout. Nobody can talk to a team yet.

One thing I read that I found extremely interesting today is that teams are going to be granted what they are calling a "get out of jail free card", or whats called the amnesty clause. What this is said to be is basically the ability to get a mulligan and release any player on your roster without it having an effect on the salary cap. The player still gets paid but the money doesn't go against the cap and all players dropped by this clause will go through a waiver period with lottery teams having first dibs with the highest bidder being awarded the player. Players most likely to be involved are Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Rashard Lewis, among others.
