There was nothing in that agreement to restrict the owners' capacity for irresponsible behavior, behavior that got the league into this mess in the first place. The players may be irresponsible, but they're taking the cues from their idiotic bosses. I've been saying this for months... there aren't any more good guys here.

Lawsuit settlement talks started today. The general consensus seems to be that if they can get it settled in the next week or so, they'll still be able to start on Christmas Day and play a 66-game season. I'm cautiously optimistic.

^ Christmas Day is the de facto start of the NBA season to most people. I keep remaining cautiously optimistic a deal will be done to kick things off by then or bypassing that date may trigger the deal being complete. After that the hold off will be until at least the spring; in turn meaning no NBA.

I have lost all hope.

To be honest I had actually forgotten about the NBA. Hadn't heard ESPn mention it in a while and with college basketball in full swing and watching the NFL and college football I believe most probably had forgotten, except or the diehard fans of course.

I really don't think its looking good for the NBA this year. Owner's lost so much last CBA players do not want to lose all of that progress and and sacrificed what they gained in order to come to an agreement. At the time of the last CBA the money was flowing and they just wanted to keep business going and the revenue split was not an issue. In that CBA the players had 57% revenue, the leagues last and final offer was 50%. Player's were disgusted at anything under 52% but still didn't seem to indicate closing a deal at 52%. Owners know that in order for the league to survive they can't go any higher than that and expect to make it. Smaller market teams in the NBA are getting crushed and are losing lots of money, players are making it tough for it to ever go to a revenue split type situation. Basically the way I see it the owners have made more than a fair offer but players do not want to give back their bargaining advantage so they would rather sit and hope to choke every bit of value they can get out of the owners. Only thing that can save an NBA season this year IMO is if all of the smaller salaried players get together and try to start a movement to end the work stoppage. These guys are just now losing out on money so if a majority of them start to move toward the attitude of any money is better than none at all then we may see basketball this season. BUT, if the players hold strong and keep pushing for what they want and they do not end up starved out there will not be basketball this season.

Here we go again....do the players make a smart move? I say no.

^ so far it seems they have. Stern's threat of resetting the contract to 47% has been proven to have been an empty threat.

 

Like HT though I have lost all hope. I'll believe there is a season when they say they have a deal. Until then I have no hope.

All I care about is if there was a new rule made on college athletes requirements on getting into the league. If They changed the one and done and made the student athlete be 20 years of age.
