Just 1 question, should I (we) be more tolerant toward others beliefs? Especially in the prayer debate?

Why is prayer done outloud to begin every session of Congress? Why doesn't every Congressman and woman pray silently to their "own" God?

 

This is the point I've been trying to make. Why is the public prayer forbidden by the Constitution here, but not over there?

Lynn Camp has had prayer before games for awhile too.

Why would someone who doesn't believe, be offended by a public prayer? If they do not believe, they do not believe in the power of prayer, so listening to a prayer should not be a concern of theirs. Just ignore it. Sometimes I think people want to make a religion of their atheism.

We pray all the time before athletic contests at NCC wether playing a public or private school . We have a captive audience . As soon as I can get a copy of the prayer I will post it .

Finally got a copy of the Prayer that is said before NCC home games .

 

 

Dear God, We believe that sports have been created and blessed by You as a means of challenging us to indentify and grow the many talents You have given us so that we might reach the ultimate prize of Your Kingdom .

As these teams compete today we all accept the challenge of honoring You by keeping our eyes on Your prize and not ours .

We pray that the coaches , players and officials honor You by respecting one another and competing hard to be their best .

We pray that the fans honor You by supporting the efforts of those competing and respecting one another .

 

Most importantly Lord , protect our teams and keep everyone safe from injury .

 

We ask all of this in the Name of Your Son , Jesus Christ . Amen

If they believe in the power of prayer to God why would they be offended? If you believe do you somehow think that your prayer is not enough for God but instead there must be more?

I agree, though I'm not sure that they want to make a religion out of it. Sometimes I think people are party-pooper addicts--the perpetual Debbie Downer.

I also agree with this. I certainly believe there are some who genuinely want this prayer to be continued, and for all the right reasons/motives. But there are others who want it maintained for this reason you just stated--the perpetual Pharisee.

I want Jesus to know that we are asking a blessing of safe keeping for all the people involved in the game, and Jesus wants us to do this. No show, nothing personal, but again not many schools do this any more.

How many schools do this? I would that many people before many different games say their prayer for safety...in private, as I do.

I am not offended by any prayer. I would not be offended by a Muslim prayer in a Muslim setting, a Jewish prayer in a Jewish setting or a Christian prayer in a Christian setting. That is kind of the point. Offering a Christian prayer implies that it is a Christian setting. Offering ANY prayer in a secular venue implies that it is a religious venue. That to me, makes it a bad idea and likely a violation of our constitution. I am rather sensitive to this as a member of a religious group that in the past experienced significant persecution in this state. I don't want ANY government employee picking the nature, time or venue for a prayer.

I agree with all of that. My Grandfather, a fire and brimstone Baptist preacher, used to tell me, "A man needs to keep Christ in his heart, not on his sleeve."

 

However, the people of that part of the country have been doing that sort of thing for years. No laws, that I know of, have come from it. There is still no state religion. Why make a ruckus now? Why make a ruckus at all?

Well lets jsut say over the loud speaker, time for private prayer so we can be tolerant of atheist beliefs, since they dont have to be tolerant of Christian beliefs. I would love for someone at a game to get on bullhorn and say a prayer for the atheist to be saved. Pray for the lost.

:thumb: Can't answer that. Don't know the people well enough to understand why the ruckus. Just know that for me personally, my faith can withstand not having a PA prayer before the games. :thumb:

 

 

BTW, your grandfather sounds like a very wise man.
