I agree with all of that. My Grandfather, a fire and brimstone Baptist preacher, used to tell me, "A man needs to keep Christ in his heart, not on his sleeve."

 

However, the people of that part of the country have been doing that sort of thing for years. No laws, that I know of, have come from it. There is still no state religion. Why make a ruckus now? Why make a ruckus at all?

I think if history has taught us anything it's that "doing that sort of thing for years" is a very poor justification for something continuing (Jim Crow, slavery, "separate but equal", etc.). So far nothing we know of has come from it. But who is to say that someone hasn't for years felt singled out due to their religous preferences being different than what a public school endorses. The easiest solution is just to have a moment of silence and people can pray silently without making a show of it.

 

Why someone caused a ruckus now, I have no idea. I personally would probably never say anything as I generally don't pay it any attention. But now that it has been brought to my attention I feel obligated to say that it is wrong for a school to do this.

Well lets jsut say over the loud speaker, time for private prayer so we can be tolerant of atheist beliefs, since they dont have to be tolerant of Christian beliefs. I would love for someone at a game to get on bullhorn and say a prayer for the atheist to be saved. Pray for the lost.

I have a question for each of you. This question does not need a discourse of your beliefs, just a simple answer. Why does praying for help, looking over our kids, our country, etc bother you? I would think each of you would want all the help you could get for our kids, our leaders and our country. I have read through 5 pages of this argument and yet to figure out why anyone would not want God to look out for our kids, leaders and the good ole USA? I mean who couldn't use some help? Forget being a closet lawyer, just why does this really offend you? Does prayer whether prayed silently or over a loud speaker, asking for help, deserve lawsuits and hatred that has reared its ugly head here? Think about what we have become as a society. What must God think when he looks down on us? God help us all....

Oh, I answered it simply by asking the question fully knowing what your answer would be.

 

Your answer is the problem. Not everyone there believes as you and I do. So, let's not exclude them. Two options in order to not exclude all other possibilities: Don't say a public prayer OR start the prayer service about 30 minutes before the game and read all possibilities PLUS a comment about those that do not believe in any god.

 

It's a football game. Let's just get on with it and let each mom, dad, and friend say a quiet prayer for the players. Same thing is accomplished.

 

If your TRUE goal is to have your god look over the players then the method of praying should be of no concern. You're not being stopped from praying. I'm not being stopped from praying.

You had no idea what my answer would be. You do not know me. You are not a mind reader. I full well know what I asked. I l know what everyone on this thread has stated. I read all 5 pages. I just want to know why they dont want help. Whether they do not believe in a God, Jesus etc, or if they think it violates the constitution, etc. I just want everyone to break it down very simple on why they stand where they do. I am not ashamed to say what I believe. I just asked why they would not want help. I dont want to argue, just want answers so I can better understand.
