May 31, 201115 yr I think a lot of people are jumping the gun a little on the sanctions the NCAA is going to hand out. I think they will be penalized but not nearly to the extent that some of you think. The NCAA bases their decision on facts and not speculation or rumors. I am sure they are investigating the car issues and the info on additional players that is being reported by SI, but from what I have seen and read there have been no facts that have come out of that yet. We can only guess as to what the NCAA will do! There's a reason they forced Tressel out the door.
June 1, 201115 yr Guess who said the following: "There is no coach in college sports that’s a better example, in my mind, of what coaching is all about and what it should be and how things should be done than Jimmy Tressel. He has done a great job at Ohio State, not because he’s won a lot of games, but because he has won a lot of games doing things the absolute right way. And I think that he would be at the top of the heap when it came to picking guys that did things the way they were supposed to be done. There isn’t anybody who is better in that regard than Jim Tressel is.”

June 1, 201115 yr SI writer said Bama paid for Albert Means, goes to show you....Logan Young paid Albert's coaches and one coach didn't get enough and ratted out the other guys. Bama paid no one, that we know about or proven. Sorry, but do some research writer. Rob Rose and Ray Small..... two people that loved Tressel I might add.
June 1, 201115 yr NCAA should really make an example of Ohio state in setting a precedent that cheating will not be tolerated at all. If not teams will continue to do so but will now become even sneakier.
June 1, 201115 yr My take, the coach has left, and this is a huge hit, players are sitting out, the University is helping in all of this, first offense, this might not be so bad...The TV and Bowls thing was what I hated to lose at Bama. Recruiting hurt down the road and it showed.
June 1, 201115 yr Rob Rose and Ray Small..... two people that loved Tressel I might add. If you're saying those are the only two that talked you would be incorrect. OSU is in trouble and it might be big trouble.

Recruiting hurt down the road and it showed. My guess is it will be a big punishment due to a lack of institutional control. Compliance/coaches/equipment managers/players - all ignorant or turning a blind eye. It will be a blow for sure.
June 1, 201115 yr It is certainly a sad day to be a Buckeye fan, but the program will survive and so will the fans. Like most OSU fans I drank the Tressel Kool-Aid. While I still believe he was a great coach on the field, his off the field actions, or lack of, were not in alignment with his public persona. As far as sanctions, I guess it will depend on what more comes out and what can be proven by the NCAA. However, I don’t think the death penalty is likely since OSU was not already on probation when the alleged violations occurred, which is what killed SMU. Regardless of what is or can be proven by the NCAA one thing is for sure. The powers that be in Columbus must take control of the program and put an end to the cheep cars, tattoos for memorabilia, and anything else involving violations.
June 2, 201115 yr Tressel knew what was going on the whole time....he was trying to save face and keep his job throughout the whole process....deserves exactly what he got and I hope OSU football never recovers!!!
June 2, 201115 yr Not sure how Tressel was able to build an "integrity" reputation after leaving Youngstown State on probation. Love how Bobby Knight crushes Calipari for putting two schools on probation & yet is quick to defend Tressel. All this goes back to a theory that I've long held to--that all the big-time BCS programs are filthy dirty (and probably several other non-big-time BCS programs too).
June 2, 201115 yr I'm hoping for the death penalty. The most arrogant fan base deserves it. Nobody deserves the death penalty. That is a terrible thing to wish upon a program and a bunch of other innocent people.
June 2, 201115 yr You have to be worried about a guy like Terrell Pryor - who is approaching "loose cannon" status - divulging more damaging info on Tressel. Big reason he has been shown the door, IMO. Edited June 2, 201115 yr by bugatti
