Tressel is gone.

Also, I don't buy Urban getting out only for his health. I think he was positioning himself for the OSU job when Tress retired in a few years. I don't think he wanted to take the PR hit in Florida for leaving the Gators, because no matter where he is, other than probably Texas he'll have to go to Florida to find players. That said, I don't think Urban will take the job with all of these sanctions. I would be on the phone and wouldn't take no for an answer from Petersen or Patterson, after I called Urban of course.

I only see OSU looking at two people for this job, Urban Meyer and may John Gruden, and that's only if Meyer says no.

Those guys have got to say yes.

Also, cue the Jon Gruden rumors starting in three, two, one.

Should Gruden want to coach in the college game I would love to see that. Lets all face it though, there will be more rumors than Kellogs has Corn Flakes going around between now and the end of this season.

Sounds like the SI article that will be released online later today was the final nail in the coffin. The "integrity" of Jim Tressel was one of the biggest shams in sports history, and seeing it all crumble down around him is classic...

I would not feel sure in my job if it's in Compliance at OSU.

Local news making it sound like T.P. (qb1) won't be back if he is found guilty on this car thing(AND HE WILL BE FOUND GUILTY)

Curious what happens to all the players who cheated, at least those who got caught to cause all this mess?? If they stay with some slap on the wrist then the NCAA is a bigger joke that I already think it is??

Here in hybrid-Ohio, ambivalence rules. Our sports loyalties are as divided as Mason and Dixon. The rest of the state caught pneumonia Monday, when Ohio State announced Tressel’s resignation. Around here, we sneezed.

The message wasn’t lost on us, though. We’ve seen an iconic college coach be forced to resign. The difference was, Bob Huggins didn’t sell us on his righteousness. What you saw was what you got.

Huggins was good that way. Far better than the man in Columbus, who today looks as sincere as the sleeves on his vest.

Many are thinking Meyer will be the coach by 2012. It may happen, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Patterson or Peterson in Columbus in the near future.

You could be right, Meyers imo would be the Buckeyes first choice. Should J.Gruden want to take a college job then imo he would be high on the list. After that the ones that you mentioned could be on the list along with Stoops, his brother who is the Okla. D coodinator. Bottom line is that we will hear countless rumors/name between now and the end of this season and after.

May depend on what kind of sanctions OSU will be carrying at the time.

I of course hate to see it come to all of this but imo tOSU admin and coach Tressel had no other option. Tressel imo started out being admirable in that he was trying to protect his players. After that he let things steam roll and that imo Tressel has no one to blame but himself. No doubt if he turns the info that he had over to his compliance dept. things wouldn't had gone this far, jmo. I actually wish that Tressel would have resigned earlier. Great football coach but as I have said all the time "there is no one person that is bigger than the OSU football program/tradition".

As for future coach hires, I do think that OSU will give Fickell serious consideration. As for all the names that are already being thrown around. No doubt that there will be all kinds of rumors. Myers, Stoops, Patterson, Gruden will just be a few of possible cantidates.

One big thing for any future coach possibilty would be them looking at what all sanctions will be coming down and if they want to take over the program with sanctions like Scholly cuts, post season bans and for how many years they may be in effect.

Myers is the one name that will be heard more than any. I also take into consideration the fact that U. Meyers gave up one of the best jobs in the country for a reason. Should his reasons about his health, family stress level be correct then he may not want to jump into another high profile.pressure packed job.

As an OSU football fan I just want to get past Aug. 12th, see what all sanctions will be enforced - deal with them and move on. The Buckeyes are going to have an ecxcellent team this season and I for one just want to get back to football on the field. No dout that the program will take some major hits but there imo is no doubt that OSU football will survive whatever is placed on them and be a national power again.

GO BUCKS!!!

Not a chance. Tressel was looking out for Tressel. As big as this thing apparently is there is no way he didn't know all along. When he received those emails he tried everything he could to continue the cover up and protect his season. Tressel is a liar and has as much integrity as dog crap.

SI writer told Dan Patrick that there is much more to this than has been reported so far. He is working on more stories.
