May 30, 201115 yr Sad day but had to happen. Once you the big backers turn on you your screwed. Fickell will be the coach this year and he will be auditioning for the job. If Fickell is OSU's coach after next year I think it will set the program back 10 years. Need a homerun hire who will be able to recruit even in the violations. They will probably get the USC treatment or worse, 30 ships in 3 years. With a no name coach, OSU will be suffering 10-12 years from now IMO. Heck they still may be. At least USC and them can start a rivalry,. Sorry, I actually feel really bad for Ohio State even the fans I know personally who have given me so much grief over the years. This is a step in the right direction, but I think things are only going to get worse before they get better.
May 30, 201115 yr I used to really like Tressel but he is scum. I believe that all programs cheat, but at least own up to it. Especially when you have a paper trail.
May 30, 201115 yr Did OSU clean things up or did Tressel resign? Because every quote I've heard/read about the situation for the last few months basically implied that the university would do everything in its power to keep Tressel. I don't necessarily view this as Ohio State doing the right thing, although I could be wrong. Tressel imo should had resigned quiite a while ago imo. Tressel was forced to resign. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2011/05/30/ohio-state-news.html?sid=101

He will try to create a new atmosphere with the offense. Certainly OSU, has the money and power to pick their coach but I was told they will give him a look. They just didn't want it to happen this way.

I personally trust your information and post on OSU football better than anyone on this site.
May 30, 201115 yr Keep the faith OSU fans, I lived thru this stuff and we came out just fine, no need to hurry, and go out and get the best coach that will fit your program, make him an offer and refuse no other response but yes! Coach Tressel had to go, he is the man in charge, and believe me he didn't want to resign.
May 30, 201115 yr I would be surprised if Fickell keeps the job after the season is done, but everything I have read and heard about him this morning says he is solid. Once NCAA sanctions come down on OSU, Urban Meyer, Chip Kelley, Gary Patterson and other may not be interested. Fickell seems like a solid guy to have in the wings once the fallout begins.

May 30, 201115 yr I of course hate to see it come to all of this but imo tOSU admin and coach Tressel had no other option. Tressel imo started out being admirable in that he was trying to protect his players. After that he let things steam roll and that imo Tressel has no one to blame but himself. No doubt if he turns the info that he had over to his compliance dept. things wouldn't had gone this far, jmo. I actually wish that Tressel would have resigned earlier. Great football coach but as I have said all the time "there is no one person that is bigger than the OSU football program/tradition". As for future coach hires, I do think that OSU will give Fickell serious consideration. As for all the names that are already being thrown around. No doubt that there will be all kinds of rumors. Myers, Stoops, Patterson, Gruden will just be a few of possible cantidates. One big thing for any future coach possibilty would be them looking at what all sanctions will be coming down and if they want to take over the program with sanctions like Scholly cuts, post season bans and for how many years they may be in effect. Myers is the one name that will be heard more than any. I also take into consideration the fact that U. Meyers gave up one of the best jobs in the country for a reason. Should his reasons about his health, family stress level be correct then he may not want to jump into another high profile.pressure packed job. As an OSU football fan I just want to get past Aug. 12th, see what all sanctions will be enforced - deal with them and move on. The Buckeyes are going to have an ecxcellent team this season and I for one just want to get back to football on the field. No dout that the program will take some major hits but there imo is no doubt that OSU football will survive whatever is placed on them and be a national power again. GO BUCKS!!!

OSU football fans had just look for and get used to all the shots/jabs taken by the haters. I expect it and is all like water off a ducks back. I do know that I would be careful in having too much fun with it though, their favorite could be next. I heard one thing (I think that it was on espn) quite a while go that there were only two programs in the country that had never had a single, not one allegation against them and that was Penn State and Stanford.

Certainly OSU, has the money and power to pick their coach but I was told they will give him a look. They just didn't want it to happen this way. He's still an unknown commodity in a terrible time for OSU. With the sanctions they will have I think you have to have a guy that is well known. Kiffin has been able to recruit like a monster at USC, they need someone that well known IMO. Its going to take a special guy to continue to convince players outside of Ohio to come and play for the Bucks when they will not have the scholarship numbers to field a type flight contender. If they lose something close to 10 per year for 3 years it probably won't matter either way. JMO, but if I'm a Bucks fan a first timer is the last person I want coaching the Bucks now.
May 30, 201115 yr Also, I don't buy Urban getting out only for his health. I think he was positioning himself for the OSU job when Tress retired in a few years. I don't think he wanted to take the PR hit in Florida for leaving the Gators, because no matter where he is, other than probably Texas he'll have to go to Florida to find players. That said, I don't think Urban will take the job with all of these sanctions. I would be on the phone and wouldn't take no for an answer from Petersen or Patterson, after I called Urban of course.
May 30, 201115 yr So with all of this now out, I have two questions: 1. How likely is OSU to serve a bowl suspension? 2. How many players do we see leave or decommit from OSU?
